Uranium in the Four Corners Essay
Not since the 1980 s has a recent surge of uranium mining claims occured in the Four Corners
region. Energy Fuel Resources Inc. has placed its Canyon Mine on standby and expects to resume
shaft sinking operations December of next year, when an official court ruling is made and
depending on market conditions. Earlier this year the Havasupai Tribe and a coalition of
conservation groups sued the United States Forest Servicefor allowing Energy Fuel Resources Inc. to
operate a mine under a 1986 federal environmental review without tribal consultation. The Canyon
mine was previously in non operational status due to low uraniumstock prices in 1992. Opponents of
the uranium miningoperation want the federal environmental review updated and... Show more

All water is evaporated according to Moore, including rain and snowfall, but opponents of the mining
proposition fear the potential impact uranium could have, claiming that radioactive levels tend to be
above the natural background. Bahr argues that the aquifer protection permit is essentially a general
permit that minimally enforces monitoring and groundwater protection. Referring to mining industry
claims that these sites have minimal surface disturbance Bahr states, It is blight upon the land... but
it doesn t take much for contamination. Conservation groups argue that irreversible damage to
important waters like Havasu Creek will occur if radioactive contaminants reach the groundwater
that supply springs and seeps in the Grand Canyon. In addition to environmental concerns,
opponents argue that government regulation is too lax and as Bahr states, It is all too easy to mine
on public lands and the Forest Service and Bureau of Land Management have made it extremely
easy to validate claims. Although uranium miners recognize federal obligations to reclaim operation

A Friendly Enemy Essay
A Friendly Enemy
quot;Death is my wish for myself, my enemies, my children quot; (Euripedes translated by
Robinson Jeffers, Medea 11). Medea is hungry for death. She wants to taste it on her lips and wishes
others to do the same. The value which Medea gives death is to use it as a weapon against her
enemies. On the other hand, the women and the nurse fear death. Death,to the women and to the
nurse is something that should not be wished for. quot;O shining sky, divine earth,
Harken not to the song that this woman sings quot; (13). One of the Greek women says this, for
Medea is screaming out that she would like to die. The women and the nurse hear Medea wishing
for death as if it were a treasure or something valuable. The nurse and women ... Show more content

To a Greek woman death is personified as a hunter or killer. She uses an animal, the hawk,to
compare to death. A hawk is a swift predator that attacks unnoticed, but to Medea death is a trophy.
For Medea death has a value of importance. A friendship has been established. Death is Medea s
friend. She uses it as a weapon to get what she views as justice. quot; Then if you have a dog eyed
enemy and needed absolute vengeance . . . Unchild him, ha? And then unlife him quot;(23). Medea
believed with great depth to get vengeance upon Jason. She wanted to go through with her
vengeance and hurt Jason as Jason hurt her. Jason left Medea for another woman thus leaving her
miserable and craving for revenge. Thus, she went on taking the life of his bride to be and the life
of their children. She also wanted to wash herself from the impurities of Jason s touch. quot;Ah,
rotten, rotten, rotten: death is the only water to wash this dirt quot; (12). This is a metaphor for
she compares death to a water, which is a symbol of pureness, to cleanse herself. The nurse and
women have almost pleaded to Medea not to even think about death, but because of her resentment
and hate towards Jason she is deaf to the women s advice. The importance given to death by Medea
is rejected by the women. Death would only make things worse in the women s eyes. To Medea
everything will be put in
Radio Stations Of New Zealand
There are more radio stations in New Zealand per head of population than any other country in the
world. This means individual stations need to jostle for their unique positioning in the market. One
way to evaluate the similarities and differences between radio stations is to conduct a Content
analysis. Radio stationsdefine their market positionings through differences in structure, talk focus,
announcing style, music, advertisements, self promotion, competitions, types of callers and news
information. We can see this by contrasting Mediaworks hip hop stationMai FMto New Zealand
Media and Entertainment s (NZME) boomers station Coast.
First developed by Harold Lasswell in 1927, Content analysis was initially a way of studying
propaganda in the mass media (Macnamara, 2011). The methodology has evolved over the years,
but the most basic way to describe content analysis is that it summarises any form of content by
counting various aspects of the content (Franzosi, 2008). According to Berelson (as cited in
Macnamara, 2011) some purposes of content analysis include to discover certain trends in
communication texts, to compare media and how they communicate and to predict the effects of
content on audiences. The reason I am using content analysis as oppose to more systematic and
objective approaches is that it allows me to develop precise explanations concerning trends in media
content whereas impressionistic approaches are better for describing the content, as there is no
Biblical Archaeological Of Biblical Archaeology
Biblical archaeology is defined as a sect of archeological studies that refers to the study of lands
found in the Bible and their history (biblicalarchaeology.org). The firsthand goal of Biblical
archaeology is to prove the authority of scripture through providing concrete evidence that the Bible
lines up with accepted geography and history. The JerusalemSiege Tower shows the accuracy of
what was described as historical events in the Bible. The Pool of Siloam is found in John 9, and
proves that the places that Jesus spoke of while performing miracles really existed, and still do.
Finally, the Dead Sea Scrollsvalidate the authenticity of the scripture that we read today. Through
the analysis of the excavation of the Jerusalem Siege Tower,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

(Shanks, 86 87) Two archaeologists, Ronny Reich and Eli Shuckron, were excavating in the area of
the Gidhon Valley, at the outset of the tunnel. While digging in the kings garden, Shuckron noticed
two steps in the ground, and after getting clearance from the Israeli Antiquities Authority, they began
to excavate that area, discovering the true location of the Siloam Pool. (Shanks, 88)
The Pool was then identified to be a trapezoid shape and around 225 long, with steps on the at
least three of the exteriors. Archaeologists were also able to identify that the pool went through
two phases, and that the stone steps were a part of the second phase. In the first phase, the steps
were actually plastered, not stone. They also found coins inside the plaster, which dated back to
the assumed first phase of the pool. The coins were all dated back to the era of the Jewish king,
Alexander Jannaeus, who would be succeeded by Herod the Great. Therefore, archaeologists can
conclude that the pool was developed the late Hasmonean period or early Herodian period.
Excavators also found Second Temple pottery, which had all been finished in the Roman destruction
of Jerusalem in 70 AD, and coins from the First Jewish revolt against Rome, which lasted from 66 to
70 AD. With this knowledge, archaeologists could conclude that the pool was in use until the end of
the revolt. The pool eventually disappeared under

From this study, it was concluded that the hazardous emissions that are connected to photovoltaic
technology are only connected the consumption of energy in the manufacturing process. In 2010, a
research project was funded by the Clean Energy Fund. This project only focused on understanding
the effects of photovoltaic to the environment. According to this research, photovoltaic energy is in a
perfect position to be included in low carbon energy technologies to sustain future energy. The study
also concluded that the amount produced was too low to pose adverse effect to the environment.
Objectives i.To determine the total greenhouse gasses emission throughout the lifecycle of
photovoltaic technologies ii. To investigate effects on marine and fresh water resulting from the
degradation of photovoltaic solar panels in water iii. To examine the effect of the installation and
presence of photovoltaic panels on the water surface iv. To determine the ecological effects of
photovoltaic panels especially on the transmission of high voltage currents in the aquatic
environment. v.To examine the assessment of degradation effect on the performance and reliability
of photovoltaic vi. Assess the irradiance and oxygen level measurements as well as the consequences
of the same on the aquatic environment lying beneath the array
Essay on My Personal Philosophy of Education
Philosophy of Education
Relating my reasons for becoming a teacher was not a very difficult task for me; to accomplish this
task I simply needed to reflect upon and describe some of my own personal experiences. I relied
basically upon my memories and thoughts about my own educational experiences. However,
describing my philosophy of education was much more difficult task for me to accomplish. First of
all, before I could properly describe my philosophy, I realized I needed a working definition of the
concept of philosophy. My search for this working definition of the term philosophy led to further
research which provided further insight into viewpoints of various well known philosophers; some of
whom we discussed in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Down through the years as I played basketball, I had many different coaches and I can easily
describe these coaches by placing them within two broad categories.
In the first category were the true teacher/coaches and in the second were the true sports enthusiast
/coaches. The differences between these two categories of coaches were easy for me to identify
and, to now describe. The coaches who were true teacher/coaches sometimes were not certified to
teach professionally, but their personalities and styles of coaching were what identified them to me
as true teacher/coaches. The true teacher/coaches were not only interested in how well I performed
on the basketball court; they were interested in me as whole person. They strongly emphasized the
importance of academics and always encouraged me to do well academically, and also to develop
my other talents. These true teacher/coaches greatly influenced and will continue to influence my
decision to become a teacher. I will strive to model myself as a teacher after some of these true
teacher/coaches that I was fortunate enough to have.
Additionally, someday I also want to coach other young people in the skills needed in the game of
basketball and also in the skills needed for learning and living as my true teacher/coaches coached
me. In addition to encouraging me to do well in all areas, these coaches also emphasized the
importance of treating

Alternatives to Replacing Human Workforce Abstract In today s workforce, there is a silent fear
lurking amongst blue and white collar workers alike. There is a worldwide threat of machines
beating people out of jobs that many have invested time and money to acquire. As leaders and
positions of management we are the soothsayers to those masses. What can we as leaders be
prepared to do to satiate the worried minds of the ones that depend on the existence of these
positions? Would it be more detrimental or beneficial to society to reduce the human workforce
and put so many bodies out of work? Does protecting the bottom line conflict with social
responsibility? how management can incorporate a more utilitarian approach and stay in the
game? Uta Batts Prof. Ray Walters Bus 137 0001 FA 16 November 2016 Management
Alternatives to Replacing Human Workforce The fear of losing our jobs to automation is all but
too real with predictions from consultants in partnership with Oxford University and economists
forecasting that at least 35 percent of our jobs to be at risk within the next 20 years (Wakefield). As
leaders of the masses in the human workforce we are not exempt from the effects of automation and
it would serve us well
The Trail of Socrates and the development of Western...
THESIS STATEMENT Socrates was accused of corrupting the youth of Athens and sentenced to die
for his beliefs. He accepted this punishment because he truly thought what he believed was right.
PURPOSE STATEMENT By conducting research and examining various sources, The trail of
Socrates proved to be an important part in history, impacting the development of Western Philosophy
and allowing the beliefs of Socrates to live on to this day.
INTRODUCTION The death of Socrates has had a huge and almost continuous impact on western
culture (Wilson 1). Socrates life, trial, and death are all important parts of history. Socrates was a
philosopher in Athens who believed in using reason to explain different aspects of life. During his ...

Throughout his entire life, to the moment he died, he did his best to help the people around him. He
wanted them to think and make correct moral decisions. Athens, one of the world s earliest
democracies, raised Socrates, educated him and finally sentenced him to death, having found him
guilty of religious unorthodoxy and corrupting the young (Wilson 2). Socrates was born in Alopece,
a district of ancient Athens. He was born of Sophroniscus and Phaenarete. He married Xanthippe and
they had three children. We do not have any writing that Socrates wrote himself. Therefore, our
major sources for Socrates are Plato, Xenophan, and Aristophanes. Plato was a student of Socrates.
However, not everything he wrote about Socrates can be taken literally. Plato used Socrates as a
figure to voice different viewpoints. Everything Plato said about Socrates may not be completely
true. Xenophan defended the accusations that were being held against Socrates. In the Apology, he
describes Socrates mindset. This gives us an understanding of how Socrates stood up for his beliefs
to the point where it cost him his life. Aristophanes wrote a play entitled The Clouds. Socrates was a
character in this fictional comedy. The Clouds portrays Socrates as corrupting the youth of Athens
and not properly venerating the gods of Athens. Socrates did not take offense to this, as comedies are
meant just as entertainment.
Countee Tollen s Poem In Tableau And Incident By Countee...
Racial injustice and racial harmony have both been seen throughout all of history. Both can even
be seen almost everyday. One writer, Countee Cullen, revealed what the world is and what is
should be like through his poems during the Harlem Renaissance in the 1920s. The two key poems
that present this are Tableau and Incident. He reveals harmony between a white and black boy in
Tableau, representing the people of the United States of America and how they should be. Later, he
uncovers the prejudice against black peoplein Incident, through the perspective of a black child who
is ridiculed for being black by another little boy in Baltimore. He helped show how races should be in
harmony through the main points of the poem this way. But, each poem has similarities and
differences, seen through the diction of the author. The author creates the theme actions often speak
louder than words in Tableau, and creates the theme sometimes the smallest things can hurt the most
in Incident, by using the figurative language and tone throughout each poem. The tone in each poem
was crucial to deliver the theme. In Tableau, the tone is powerful, helping to reveal the uplifting and
inspiring theme. This can be seen because of the boys being [o]blivious to look and word/ They pass,
and see no wonder (Cullen 9 10). The tone here makes the harmony of the black and white boys to
surmount the gossip and backtalk of the people, emphasizing how their actions were more important

something special that belongs to themselves, in order to get a great gift for their partner. Another
similarity is in both stories the gifts that each partner receives has no use to them. For example,
when Ernie receives a cigar box for his paper clip collection, it has no use since Ernie traded his
paperclip collection in to afford Bert s gift. A difference between the stories is at the end Mr.

Creutzfeldt-Jacob Disease Essay
CJD: OUTLINE/ROUGH DRAFT/INFORMATION
The purpose of this term paper is to review the literature regarding Creutzfeld Jacob Disease. The
goal is to examine the information as it relates to homeostasis in human body systems.
NAME: CREUTZFELDT JAKOB DISEASE (KROYTZ felt YAH kub) (CJD), originally discovered
in 1920 by Hans Gerhard Creutzfeld and Alfons Maria Jacob, is also known by several other names:
transmissible spongiform encephalopathy (TSE); acquired (vCJD or iCJD) ; sporadic (sCJD);
familial (fCJD); Jacob Creutzfeldt disease; Mad Cow Disease, or bovine spongiform encephalopathy
(BSE). (pg. 369 Biology). To allay confusion, the disease will be referred to as classic Creutzfeld
Jacob Disease (CJD) unless otherwise noted.
(CAUSE of DISEASE) Creutzfeldt Jakob disease (CJD) is a very rare disorder that damages the
tissues of the brain, causing a rapid decline in mental function and muscle coordination, eventually
leading to death. (Human Illnesses).
There are three types of CJD, all with different causes: Sporadic CJD, Familial CJD and Acquired or
Iatrogenic CJD.
