Introductory Lines In Beowulf
Though Beowulf holds many significant lines throughout its text, the first eleven introductory lines
serve as a strong setup for the epic s broad themes and cultural values. While these lines may easily
be brushed off as a simple hook for the poem s beginning, the first lines hold much more significance
than one might initially assume. Within the poem, Beowulf, the poet manages to employ the first
eleven lines as a means of conveying the most essential theme of kingship. The poet achieves this
illustration by showing the importance of kingship, the qualities which a leader requires, and the
constant role which kingship plays throughout the poem. Because of this important theme of
kingship included within the introduction, these eleven lines serve as some of the most important
throughout the poem. Primarily, within this section of the poem s introduction, the poet
manages to utilize Shield Sheafson s portrayal as a means of providing an image of the
importance of kingship. The poet states within these lines that, A foundling to start with, he
would flourish later on / as his powers waxed and his worth was proved. / In the end each clan on
the outlying coasts / beyond the whale road had to yield to him / and begin to pay tribute. That
was one good king, (41). With this description, we can see that the poet places a heavy emphasis
on kingship within these lines. The poet states that Sheafson s growth in quality kingship caused
all tribes to yield to him and pay tribute, and this made him a good king. This presents the fact that
kingship is required within the culture of the poem, and that it enables Sheafson to help his
people. Additionally, as the text advances, we see the poet make further claims of the required
nature of kingship through Beowulf s character. We can see this in places such as when the poet
states, ...Onela returned / to the land of Sweden, leaving Beowulf / to ascend the throne, to sit in
majesty / and rule over the Geats. He was a good king, (). Just as with the last quote, we can see
the poet places heavy emphasis on Beowulf s quality as a king. Kingship is displayed through
Beowulf s quality rule over the Geats, and this shows the importance of kingship throughout the
poem. These two
The Christian s Acts Of Faith
We ve all been there before, searching for something to watch on TV, 500 channels and nothing
catches our attention until we hear the yelling of the televangelist, YOU JUST GOTTA HAVE
FAITH! QUIT TRYING TO UNDERSTAND IT ALL! LET GO AND LET GOD! For some that
may be the solution they are searching for. They might be frustrated or let down by their own efforts
of understanding. But does faithbegin with letting go (of reason and understanding) and letting God
(reveal Himself to us) ? Is there any compatibility between exercising Christian faith and
exercising reason? Does reason have a role or should it have a role in the Christian s acts of faith?
This has been a topic of discussion throughout history by many great thinkers. I am going to
attempt to show that reason has an active role in exercising the Christian faith; at least attempt to
show that reason and faith aren t mutually exclusive. I will briefly discuss (1) different views of
the philosophical divide taken by philosophizers over the ages (2) and biblical evidence of the use of
reason (3) definition of biblical faith.
The apparent conflict between faith and reason has brought much trouble to believers and non
believers alike through the centuries. Influences like Immanuel Kant in his Critique of Pure Reason
penned these words: I have therefore found it necessary to deny knowledge in order to make room
for faith (1965, B:XXX) and Soren Kierkegaard held that the absolute limit to which our reason
repeatedly is
Government Surveillance Report
The part of Dr. Christ s lecture that remained in my mind was his input on the topic of surveillance.
In fact when he mentioned that google is able to track us, I immediately opened my phone and shut
down the ability for google to track my location. My animation connects to Dr. Christ s lecture in the
sphere of surveillancewhile at first this doesn t seem to connect with my project I will show you
why. Notice when you were playing the game as you moved smug, the cat, the ball followed. This is
my way of showing governmentsurveillance. The ball reacting to smug s movements serve as a
metaphor for the way that the government is able to track us via google, our phones and various
other mechanisms. Also notice that you can trick the ball into going away from smug. This trick is
a metaphor for how people can encrypt information and use the dark web to keep information away
from the government. Also the ability to trick the ball into going in the wrong direction serves as a
metaphor for how the government is a massive inept bureaucracy that struggles to complete even the
most simple tasks with easy and swiftness.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Representing the people and their information. The ball represents the government, its ability to
track information and how it keeps surveillance on people. The most difficult part of the project was
trying to figure out how to make the cat reset if it came into contact with ball. Determining how to
do this took the most time of my entire project, about thirty minutes. For me the most fun part of the
project was actually playing the game. Specifically, I enjoyed tricking the ball into going into the
wrong direction thus making Smug s crossing much easier than it would have been without tricking

Epic in A Piligrim s Progress by John Bunyan and Heart of...
What is an epic? What does a piece of literature need in order to be considered an epic? An epic is a
journey that the protagonist takes in order to find who they are themselves. A Pilgrim s Progress
by John Bunyan and Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad are two pieces of literature in which this
appears. However, A Pilgrim s Progress: Part One is more of a dream journey while Heart of
Darknessis an actual physical journey. Both of these novels however follow the standard pattern of
an epic in how they are both journey s in which the person comes to an understanding of themselves
which sometimes and sometimes does not end up saving him. A Pilgrim s Progress: Part One is a
novelthat follows the structure of an epic in many different ways. For one, as even stated in the
novel, Christian s journey is a dream journey. Another way is how at the beginning of the novel
the protagonist Christian has a large burden on his back that he can not take off. This burden
causes him to have the conviction that he has many sins and is therefore in need of saving so he
goes on a pilgrimage in order to be saved. This follows the epic structure of being a young, naive
man who goes on a journey in order to obtain an understanding of himself. Throughout Christian s
journey he faces many challenges but also is helped by various people too.
Another part of the epic structure is the young man s journey through the underworld or hell. This is
shown in A Pilgrim s Progress through Christian s
The Advertisements For Gucci s Perfume And Calvin Klein
According to Miya Yamanouchi, the author of Embrace Your Sexual Self, Both men and women
experience pressure to conform to social standards of attractiveness. Men to look strong and be
tough, women to look pretty and soft. Stereotypes affect every gender in the society because people
have a prejudice on themselves and others. In Men s Men and Women s Women, written by Steve
Craig, addresses the expectations that the society places on men and women. For instance, men must
be masculine and wealthy and women must have a perfect body shape with beautiful facial features
to be considered as attractive. Nowadays, the advertisements are taking advantage of such a social
norm to lure consumers to purchase their goods. The advertisements for Gucci s perfume and Calvin
Klein s cologne are especially good examples to demonstrate such pressure and reflect the consumers
psychological behavior. The advertisements highlight genderstereotypes through utilizing the
impression of opposite sex and incorporate an underlying sense of sexism through the designs of the
backgrounds, the purpose of wearing fragrances and the reinforcements on Women s Men and Men s
Men; these advertisements contribute to the consumers perception of their physical appearance by
delivering a fraudulent image of perfection through their models.
The effects of the chosen background designs of Gucci s and Calvin Klein s advertisements
influence the focus of the subjects in the promotions, consequently targeting the
Reaction Paper On Hydrazones
2.1. Hydrazones:
Hydrazones are a special class of organic compound in the Schiff base family. They are
characterized by the prescence of azomethine ( C=N N=C 15 min). The hydrazones obtained are
tested for their DNA cleavage properties and some of them are found to show good chemical
nuclease activity in the presence of both oxidizing agent (H2O2) and reducing agent (MPA). Some of
them exhibited hydrolytic activity and their antioxidant activity was found to be very low.

2.5. RESULTS AND DISCUSSION

Though aryl hydrazones of aryl aldehydes, known as Schiff bases, are well known, the study of
any hydrazones (28) of 2 chlororquinoline 3 carbaldehydes (26) is scanty. Srivastava et al, have

The Cameroonian music performances took me back to Africa and the early times when music was
so simple and meant something. The evolution of music was brought to us as we experienced the
Lions band which is a group of young Cameroonians who live in the US perform a variety of music
with what is known as the most sophisticated instrument in music today. Comedians were also
highlighted as a form of art and culture. Many performances from many different eras were
scheduled. Theater was well represented during that event because it brought to life Africa and is
way of life to America.
Cultures continue to change and grow as many factors contribute to this change and growth. That
Cameroonian Festival was a classic example of this growing of the cultures. Performers were
young and old, male and female, as well as from different walks of life. I witness the evolution of
dance, art and music as I watch the different performances.
In conclusion, the All Cameroonians Cultural Festival was an event like no other that I have
attended before. In encompasses many different forms of art, including theater, music and dance.
Many Cameroonian and African cultures were represented allowing us to experience what life is
like in Cameroon and
