Sulfur Lab Report
Introduction The objective of this lab was to observe a sampling of the diverse microorganisms that
live in the local environment. Sulfur is the tenth most abundant element in the universe. It makes up
many vitamins, proteins, and hormones that play critical roles in both climate and the health of
various ecosystems. Most of Earth s sulfuris stored underground in rocks and minerals. The sulfur
source in the lab was an egg. The sulfur plays a role of an electron donor for C fixation. The sulfate
reducing bacteriause organic compounds made by the fermenters, sulfate as a terminal electron
acceptor, and produce sulfide which diffuses upward. With high reducing conditions in the mud,
more oxidation is towards the top of the column where traces... Show more content on

A 2 cm layer of water was added to each column on the surface. There was still air at the top of the
column. Then the lid was placed on each column and turned ½ a turn. The lid was not tightened all
the way. Then all four of the columns were placed in a well lit space. Then, every Wednesday the
columns were observed and recorded by writing descriptions and drawing pictures for seven weeks.
Photos were also taken every week of the columns.

Results The Winogradsky columns started off all brown, but by the end of the eight weeks they
were mostly different colors. The Sulfur column and the carbon column were the most colorful ones.
The carbon column was colorful almost through the whole experiment. The sulfur column became
colorful after week six. The carbon/sulfur column stayed grey, brown, and green the entire eight
weeks. The control column stayed brown and grey with a bid of mossy green liquid at the top. The
attached papers demonstrate the observation during the eight weeks. The table has descriptions of
each column for each week. The pictures of the columns just show a picture of the recorded
observations for each column each week. The written observations have better description than the
pictures
Robert Frost and E.E. Cumings Essay
Robert Frost and E.E. Cummings Poetry is considered to be a representational text in which one
explores ideas by using symbols. Poetry can be interpreted many different ways and is even
harder to interpret when the original author has come and gone. Poetry is an incredible form of
literature because the way it has the ability to use the reader as part of its own power. In other
words, poetry uses the feelings and past experiences of the reader to interpret things differently from
one to another, sometimes not even by choice of the author. Two famous poets come to mind to
anybody who has ever been in an English class, Robert Frost and E.E. Cummings. Both of these
poets have had numerous famous pieces due to the fact that they both... Show more content on

Aside from the connections and similarities both of these poems are actually quite different. In
Cummings poem the time cycle such as, spring summer autumn winter (3). Has the effect that
time goes by quickly and the little things almost are insignificant. Also in Cummings poem he had
mentioned how children grew to forget, allowing for such interpretations like, once one grows up
they loose who they once were. Where in Frost s poem time slows down to make a choice that
will alter one s life. When he is deciding between the roads he has time to ponder and question his
move having each movement being significant rather than insignificant. Also in Frost s poem it is
safe to assume that when making a choice one will use the knowledge and experiences they had
as a child to make choices in the future allowing the reader to understand that one doesn t simply
loose who they once were, but one changes who they become through the choices they make.
Frost s poem has a great sense of irony towards the end, I shall be telling this with a sigh
/ somewhere ages and ages hence (16 17). The irony is that while he s making his choice he is
already anticipating how he will tell the story in the future, almost adding a sense of drama
Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps ( Irgc )
Anyone who has even the slightest clue about anything related to world news has the basic
understanding that Iran is a major player in the world of politics. From miscellaneous missile
launches to disputes with other foreign nations, they have strong armed their way onto the
international stage. Iran has become the largest threat in the Middle Eastern region as a result of the
efforts of their fairly infant Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). Plunging in for a closer
look, the strength of the IRGC impresses not only politics, but the socioeconomic culture of Iranbut
not in the most positive fashion.
Formally known as Persia, Iran s military history spans back to the time period before Christ
existed. Through thousands of years of regime changes, in more modern times, Iran has adopted a
two headed military system. These two factions are the Artesh and the Sepah (more commonly
known as Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps [IRGC]). The Artesh is the national defense force
or the conventional army of Iran. The Artesh protect the borders and carry out other internal
responsibilities while the IRGC serves as the offensive entity. The Artesh has more soldiers than
the IRGC, but the IRGC is the face and strength of Iran. The birth of the IRGC was a result of the
Iranian Revolution of 1979. The ability of the IRGC to not only stand up as an Army, but to
essentially eradicate the Iraqi presence from Iran to end the 8 year Iraq Iran War legitimizes its
existence even to this day.
What Is Machiavelli Stressed In The Prince
Outside people relations, Vlad embodied one of the most crucial principle Machiavelli stressed in
The Prince, Principle 10 How the Strength of All States Should be Measured. Machiavelli believes
that for a prince to maintain his control over the state in times of war, he must be ready to fight for
his people. Vlad went beyond that by succeeding his predecessors through weaponizing Wallachia for
battle and personally leading the charge against neighboring states. His first hurdle was his
confrontation with Hungary where he tried to maintain a fragile peace, skillfully balancing the
interests of the Hungarian and the Ottoman Empire in Wallachia. However...conflict broke out
between Wallachia and Hungary...[eventually] Vlad succeeded to obtain... Show more content on

His mettle against the Hungarian proved fruitful as he secured his nation s independence and
expanded his territories. He quickly went into the extreme to safeguard his people during his
confrontation with the Turks; per usual, he took a radical stance in the Machiavellian principle
against his enemy by psychological warfare... [the Sultan]...saw his men impaled...the Sultan...kept
saying that he could not conquer the country of a man who could do such terrible and unnatural
things, and put his power and his subjects to such use (Miller). Ironically, the Sultan s claim
proved to be Vlad s strength because he relied on his military ingenuity to scare his opponents
from touching Wallachia. His front against the Turks established to his people his unwavering
dedication to their liberty and safety. The central concern of Vlad s actions was that in terms of
pure Machiavelli, Vlad had no evidence of following the footsteps of prior great kings and did
everything himself. Why this is an issue is because Vlad is going to every battle blind and relying
too heavily on his impromptu actions to combat the
Osteoarthritis
Osteoarthritis is a degenerative arthritis, a condition in which joint cartilage breaks down. New
tissue, which grows at the ends of bones, now has no cartilage cap to control it. Instead, this new
bone forms into strange lips and spurs that grind and grate and get in the way of movement of the
joint. Osteoarthritis is common in older people after years of wear and tear that thin the cartilage
and the bones. Osteoarthritis can also result from diseases in which there is softening of the bone,
like Paget s disease in which the long bones of the body curve like a bow, or osteoporosis with its
bowing of the shoulder called dowager s hump, or the breakdown of other bones. Other forms of
arthritis can also cause a secondary osteoarthritis.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This constricted field increases the awkwardness of the person s manner of walking. Despite this
disability, function is usually good except for fatigue. Sometimes the heart, stomach, and kidneys can
be affected by abnormal posture.
Still s disease is the other kind of inflammatory arthritis. It is often called juvenile rheumatoid
arthritis. It is not a young form of rheumatoid arthritis, but it is an inflammatory arthritis of
juveniles. Still s disease is a rare disease that can affect children to the age of 16, affecting the
growth of the limbs so that normal length in one or both legs may not be achieved. It also can
cause eye disease and even blindness. Although usually classified as an inflammatory arthritis, Still
s disease may also be considered an infective arthritis because it is usually secondary to infections
like leukemia, rheumatic fever, sickle cell anemia, and other diseases. Osteoarthritis of the spine is
called Spondylosis. The joints degenerate and the weight of the body is supported incorrectly.
Bacterial infective arthritis is an infective arthritis. A deep wound that penetrates a joint is a direct
source of bacterial infection. But usually the infection is elsewhere, in a cut or abscessed teeth or
boils, in a sickness caused by Staphylococcus, Streptococcus, or Proteus bacteria. The arthritis these
cause is accompanied by high fever and chills. Gonorrhea, a sexually
Essay On The Assassination Of King Henry II Of France
When King Henry II of France died in 1559, many people in France were surely upset. King
Henry II of France was killed during a jousting accident. Certainly none of them would have any
idea how his accidental death while jousting would have extremely dire consequences for the
people of France and much of the rest of Europe. As King Henry II of France was laid to rest, his 15
year old frail son Frances II of France came to power. With King Frances only being 15 he would
need someone to help him rule as regent of France. The Queen mother and Henry s widow
Catherine De Medicis took over this role. The fact that Francis II was not only young, but also
sickly was looked upon as weakness to some.
Seizing on this supposed weakness of the throne were three contending families in France. The
Bourbon and Montmorency Chatillon families both allied themselves with a Protestant faction in
France called the Huguenots. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She convinced her son Charles IX King of France that the Huguenots lead by Admiral Coligny were
attempting to take over the throne. Supporters of the king surrounded Coligny and roughly 3,000
Protestant Huguenot followers in August of 1572 and slaughtered them. Within a week nearly
20,000 Huguenots in France had been executed. This mass execution had an effect not just in
France, but also in the rest of Europe. This act was no longer viewed as a struggle for power
between three powerful French families, but it had also become something much bigger, it had
become a struggle between Catholics and Protestants. Many other nations in Europe were having a
similar struggle. The Protestant religion had spread to countries like England, The Netherlands, and
Spain. These other nations would struggle, in some cases for centuries, to come to terms with the
Catholic vs Protestant question within their own

Another aspect of diction that Stuff You Should Know utilizes effectively is simplicity, it is
important to keep diction simple and clear in order to create a sense of cohesiveness when
speaking which also allows the listeners to understand the points being made. For instance The
laws governing the regulation of cosmetics have not changed in any way, shape or form (23:45,
episode 1). When one of the hosts were talking the law in terms of cosmetic safety and how it has
been unmodified since a century ago, he uses very simplistic terms in order to keep his points clear,
cohesive and easy to follow from the perspective of the listener. This is important as many podcasts
do not give enough recognition into the importance of keeping your diction simple at certain points
in order to allow the listener to fully understand the point being made.
There were some negative applications of diction throughout some of the episodes, where the
diction was far too simple which lead to vagueness and confusion. For instance I wish I was into
the old mario whatever that one was the big world one (4:43, Episode 2) This is simply confusing
and incohesive in painting a picture in the reader s mind or persuading them to ascertain to a point
being made. The host of the podcast having used overly simplistic terms was a negative utilization
of diction as it distracts the listener from the actual point being made and causes sorts of disruption.
From the listener s perspective, it would
Essay about Prospera, Thy Role Is Woman
William Shakespeare, in his play, The Tempest, tells the story of a fictional exiled Duke of Milan.
In the original play, Shakespeare casts the duke as a man, Prospero. In a modern movie version
of the play, writer and director Julie Taymor casts the duke as a woman, Prospera powerfully
portrayed by the very convincing performance of Helen Mirren. The play, surprisingly, requires
only a few very minor line changes to substitute a woman lead for the original male role. While the
actual dialogue changes are minor, the impact to the play is substantial as it totally transforms the
duke and an audience s prospective of the character. With very few exceptions, having a woman as
the Duke of Milan in Shakespeare s The Tempest, makes the duke more... Show more content on

The first examples can be seen in Prospera s ouster and exile starting with how apparently easily
Prospera was usurped. It is clear Prospera had the support of her people when she tells Miranda,
so dear the love my people bore me (Shakespeare 1.2.141). If the duke had the support of the
people and magical arts to manipulate people and events, it seems unlikely a rightful ruler could
so easily be usurped, but it becomes more plausible in Taymor s version where the position was
only assumed by Prospera upon her husband s death. Given it was not originally her position to
begin with and the predominant acceptance of male leaders at that time, it is much more realistic
that a woman could be usurped by her brother. Similarly, the fact that Prospera was not killed
outright and that she was aided by Gonzalo also becomes more believable with the duke being a
woman. To kill an ousted rival would seem of little consequence at the time if that rival were a
man, but it takes on a much less noble air if that rival is a woman, and Gonzalo s actions to aid
Prospera defying Antonio and the king become more believable as it is not only an act of kindness,
but also a chivalrous act.
In addition to Prospera s ouster and exile, other examples of where having a feminine duke is more
believable can be seen by her actions on the island. One of the first is Prospera s treatment of
Caliban. After
