Research Paper On The Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Fire
Tripti Pandey Mrs. Dillon English 7/8 12 April 2017 The Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Fire As time
goes by, everything is evolving: from machines to people. However, evolution does not simply
occur, it is caused. On March 25, 1911, the triangle shirtwaist factory (brown building) burned
down, taking 146 innocent people s lives with it (Fire, par. 3). These lives could have been saved
by the two owners of the Brown Building, Max Blanck and Isaac Harris. If they had just taken a
few basic precautions, such as supplying a sufficient amount of water to different parts of the
building, these people may have been spared (Sweatshops and Strikes, par. 2). The deaths of these
innocent workers provoked an uprising towards the factories. The Triangle... Show more content on

For example, workers of any age were permitted, as long as they worked (Staff, par. 2). Before
leaving the building, workers had to pass through the only backdoor, which was down a narrow
passageway, which was supposed to prevent robberies (Staff, par. 2). There were also many safety
hazards that the owners slyly kept away from the eyes of the City Council members. There were
only two slim fire escapes while there should have been three wide ones, and there were only a
couple buckets of water given to throw at the event of a fire(Leap for Life, Leap of Death, par. 6).
At the time of the fire, the fire department realized that there was a lot more that the owners could
have done to prevent this accident. As an after effect of the fire, many rules were put into place in
New York to prevent fires from happening in similar circumstances. A major law that was put into
place is the Occupational Safety and Health act or OSHA (Korasick, par. 1). This law states that
employees working in factories should not be exposed to anything harmful, should not have terrible
working conditions, and that workplaces of factory employees need to be sanitary (Epa, 1). If the
fire had not occurred, factories would still, under many circumstances, be
Sources Of Authority In Antigone
One of the most popular conflicts from classical Greek literature is the one found between Antigone
and Creon in Sophocles play Antigone. After a lethal conflict that left both of Antigone s brothers
dead, Creon ordered that Polyneices (one of Antigone s brothers who fought against Creon s state)
be denied a proper and honorable burial. Antigone opposed Creon s order; her own religious faith to
the Greek Gods demanded that she defy the decree and bury Polynices anyways. This tension
between the two characters proposes an interesting and complex dynamic between the two different
sources of authority. Both attempt argue that their source of authority and the obligation that are
connected with it is more legitimate, thus delegitimizing each other s laws. However, as stated by
Molly Farneth in her essay Gender and the Ethical Given, both of these laws come into conflict
because both authorities are unwilling to compromise and modify their strict standards. This tension
is subsequently caused by a number of factors, and Farneth goes into detail investigating each of
these components, ranging from gender roles in ancient Greeksociety to the role of ethics in how the
law is applied. I agree with the arguments made by Farneth and through my research, I hope to
understand how these sources of authority are viewed by and pursue this topic in a view focused on
justice. There are many interesting question that arise regarding the relationship between the
authority of the law as well
Genetically Modified Crops Pros And Cons
For the past two decades scientists have experimented with genetically modified crops and
animals. In order to genetically modify a plant or animal such as soybeans, DNA from a soybean is
crossed, or sliced, with the DNA of something else, such as a pesticide or another type of plant that
may produce more nutrients. This is known as recombinant DNA, or rDNA, technology.

Arguments exist on both sides for and against the growing trend by many of the world s nations as
to why they should or should not alter the genetic make up of plants and animals.

Advocates for genetic modification argue that DNA enhanced livestock and crops can better sustain
the burgeoning world population. They cite examples such as:

o Hybrid seeds fortified with more nutrients, such as increased iron

o Plants that produce their own pesticides

The U.S. is the biggest producer with crops such as corn, soybeans, canola, and cotton.

Due to the concerns from both advocates and opponents, both sides of the debate have come
together over the past couple of years in forums and summits all over the world to discuss the
issue. Some have called for tighter restrictions and labeling of all products, others believe that more
testing should be done. And still other individuals have begun storing and selling non hybrid seeds
in an attempt to preserve natural species in case of an unforeseen event that may damage the world s
food supply.

No matter which side an individual chooses remaining informed about genetically modified food is
one of the keys to understanding the debate and making healthy eating
Pastor Sharpe Research Paper

in a number of ministries, such as teacher for Christian Education, youth leader, as well as, a trustee

He had some deep concerns about the static of the family; he is aware that they will need
counseling, due to his years of study. His arrival at the home, he finds Linda in state of disbelief.
Healing can only take place when a person comes to the reality of situation. Without any doubt,
Pastor Sharpe knows that every person deals with grief differently. So he allowed each one to
share with open on how they were feeling, while he concentrates on being presently active in
listening. He accurately responds with warm words, proper voice tone, and good body language.
Pastor Sharpe advised each one to come in for some one on one pastoral counseling, as well as,
some family counseling sessions. He recognizes that Linda is grieving, which is to be expected,
because of the circumstances surrounding death of John. This death came as a shock to everyone,
even the family. Grief from sudden death can cost the feelings of numbness and shock, making it
hard to come to reality of what has transpired. The mind cannot yet accept the overwhelming pain,
the reality that the person is really gone. Accepting the full reality of the loss must eventually occur
or the healing will be incomplete. (Clinebell, pg.
Compare And Contrast Tesla And Thomas Edison
Nikola Tesla vs. Thomas Edison Throughout history, inventors have stepped up to present their ideas
to the world, and many have made significant contributions. Some of the contributions and
inventions are frequently used today to aid our lives. Thomas Edison and Nikola Tesla were perhaps
two of the best inventors, who impacted our economy and society today. Their brilliant work offered
a more comfortable future for many all over the world. But who was the more significant inventor?
Both Tesla and Edison were significant because of their inspiration for future inventors, and their
contribution to today s society. In some instances, inventors use the ideas of others and attempt to
remake or perfect the invention. Often inspired by others,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While this may not seem to have played an important part, it did contribute to the pursuit of
remote controlled warfare, introduced by the Germans during World War II (PBS). Finally, and
perhaps the most influential, was the idea of limitless free energy. Tesla s coil and tower were the
basis for modern wireless communication. His idea was that the universe was filled with free
energy that could be utilized to form a world wide web, connecting all people in all places, as well
as allow people to harness the free energy around them, (in Activist Post par. 9). Without this, the
revolution of wireless communication may have slowed to a halt. It was also believed that Tesla
had envisioned the idea for wireless internet, where he described a system that collected information,
encoded it and broadcasted that information to a hand held device, according to IFL Science (IFL).
Though Nikola Tesla s inventions did impact today s society, many still debate whether Thomas
Edison had a bigger influence.
Thomas Edison often improved the work of other inventors. As a child, he worked as a telegrapher
and experimented in his free time. In 1874, Thomas Edison created the quadruplex telegraph, a
telegraph capable of sending four telegrams at once. Thai NT states in the Evolution of the
Telegraph, that the telegraph later evolved into a more efficient form messaging and communication

to consider general relevant financial information and provide a cost benefit analysis if the change

performance and approach to the class throughout the semester. In performing a self evaluation, I
would describe my own performance as minimal, yet, contributory. I use these terms because my
discussion involvement usually took place toward the end of the unit, but I always participate in a
manner which, I believe, brought out a unique perspective and triggered an advanced thought
process. I enjoyed the fact that each assignment was a building block from the previous week, but I
will admit that the assignment portion was very intimidating from the beginning. The structure of
the course really made you view yourself as an expert at process change. You had to put yourself in
that role in order to not only understand the
Symptoms And Treatment Of Ocd
OCD
Introduction
Osteochondritis dissecans is a localized pathologic process that leads to the focal necrosis of
subchondral bone and secondary degenerative changes in the overlying cartilage [1]. Although OCD
is thought to be an inflammatory phenomenon to great extent, the certain pathogenesis is
controversial and remains unclear [2]. Repetitive microtrauma, vascular insufficiency, and genetic
factors have been implicated as etiological factors for this rare disease [1, 3].
With a high predilection for the knee, lesions can arise in several joints such as the elbow, wrist,
ankle, and femoral head [4]. Osteochondritis dissecans typically presents between 10 and 15 years of
age, with an estimated incidence of 0.02% to 1.2% [1, 4]. Based on ... Show more content on

Patients and Methods
We retrospectively reviewed the medical records of 21 patients in whom the osteochondritis
dissecans of the knee was diagnosed and treated from 2001 to 2014 at our institution. Of 21 patients,
4 underwent autogenous osteochondral grafting (Mosaicplasty) due to massive fissured cartilage,
and 2 were treated by excision of the fragment. Remaining 15 patients underwent open reduction and
internal fixation with Acutrak headless cannulated compression screws (Acumed, Beaverton, Ore)
due to unstable OCD lesions of the knee. Within these 15, when considered skeletally maturity at the
time of surgery, while 6 had open growth plates, 9 presented with the closure of their growth plates.
On the basis of homogeneity of physeal status, this small sample of 9 patients with physeal closure
was included in the present study.
All patients included in the study were recalled for subjective, objective, and functional evaluation;
the study protocol involved the range of motion (ROM), ligamentous stability, Tegner Lysholm
Score, Modified Cincinnati Rating System Questionnaire, Short Form 12 (SF 12) in addition to the
plain radiograph, computed tomography (CT), and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the knee.
According to international knee documentation committee (IKDC) score, any development of
arthrosis was assessed at the final follow up.
The average length of follow up was 35 months
What Are The Three Orbital Properties Of Earth
91411 Socioscientific Report

Global warming Over the past 50 years , the average global temperature has increased at the fastest
rate in recorded history. Since the year 2000, all but one of the 16 hottest years in NASA s 134 year
record have occurred.

Evidence that Global warming is happening Major warming and cooling events have happened in
the past due to Earth s orbital patterns. In the diagram below, are the three orbital properties of
Earth. If all three of the Earth s orbital properties lineup and result in us (the planet) being at
maximum distance from the sun (but still in our orbit)... Rapid cooling of the planet will occur.
Same goes for the opposite, if all three ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Incoming UV radiation easily passes through the glass walls of a greenhouse and is absorbed by the
plants and hard surfaces inside... much as UV radiation easily passes through the atmosphere and is
absorbed by the surface of the Earth and the oceans. Weaker IR radiation has difficulty passing
through the glass walls, some of the IR radiation that does make it in, is trapped inside. Thus
warming the greenhouse... much like an amount of the IR radiation that makes it into our
atmosphere is trapped, regulating the Globes temperature.

Adding more greenhouse gases makes it more difficult for radiation to reflect up back through the
atmosphere, thus trapping it in leading to an increase in global temperatures. Carbon dioxide is a
greenhouse gas and the amount of carbon dioxide is increasing rapidly (shown in the diagram to the
right).

Impacts on individuals Warming of the globe has many severe consequences, both on society and the
people in it. An increase in atmospheric temperatures can lead to consequences relating to health,
money, food supplies and drinking water.

Health : Higher temperatures allow many common Allergens, Bacteria and Diseases to thrive. Cold
areas such as the poles will be exposed to these Allergens, Bacteria and Diseases due to its decrease
in temperatures. Other then possible medical risks, there are also physics dangers such as
