Multiple Source Paper Slumdog Millionaire: The Feel Good Movie When Danny Boyle s film
Slumdog Millionaire came out at the end of 2008, people instantly fell in love with it. In 2009 it
was nominated for ten Academy Awards and won eight, which was the most won by any film
that year. Everyone seemed to be very drawn to the feel good aspect of the movie where a poor
kid like Jamal, the main character of Boyle s film, can overcome the massive obstacles thrown in
front of his path to success and eventually come out with the girl, 100 million Rupees and the love
of the nation where he just become an overnight sensation. Slumdog Millionaire , a movie review

This sense of being better and more powerful than Eastern countries that is felt in England and the
US, leads us to expect social injustices like the ones shown in Slumdog Millionaire are a normal
occurrence those living in the third world. The fact that Jamal also escapes his fate of living a
life of poverty only gives a somewhat false sense of hope to people in this situation for the movies
viewers and helps to massage (Koehler, 454) their view on the harsh reality of a culture they
barely know. Miles also talks about how the movie plays on our false sense of cultural reality in
India, she quotes the Mumbai Mirror about how the term slumdog is not a term that is widely
recognized in India. They explain that, It appears to be a British Invention to describe a poor
Dharavi kid in a derogatory way. The use of this coined and somewhat derogatory term only helps
in supporting the sense of western dominance over the east by classifying Jamal and many people in
similar socioeconomic situation as slumdogs. The authors are both very much in agreement on their
theory that one reason Slumdog Millionaire was so popular was because of a combination of
ignorance in the targeted westernized audience towards the
Essay Canada´s New Democratic Party
Did you know that the current leader of the New Democratic Party used to be a Liberal? Thomas
Mulcair became the leader of the New Democratic Party after the death of Jack Layton. The New
Democratic Party (NDP) is one of the major federal political parties in Canada. The NDP was
formed in 1961 as the result of the merger of two different parties. There are numerous reasons why
the people of Canadashould vote for the NDP. Citizens of Canada should vote for the New
Democratic Partybecause if elected, they promise to improve the environmental situation, provide
better health care for Canadians, and improve the economy in Canada.

Bulk fresh water exports from Canada will be eliminated to keep the fresh water plentiful in
Canada, and keep it from depleting rapidly. If the New Democratic Party gains power, they are
going to make the health care in Canada better for citizens. Health care is definitely a very
important factor in keeping everyone in Canada happy and healthy. Without healthcare, we will
get sick more frequently, and not going to regular checkups will make diseases more likely to
affect us negatively. The NDP is proposing to end the fees for ambulance services. This will make
people more likely to call an ambulance instead of taking a chance of driving themselves. This
could save lives because ambulances are much faster than driving yourself in a car because
people are required by law to move out of the way of an incoming ambulance on the road. The
NDP is saying to give seniors the support they need to live in their own homes instead of being
forced to move to an old age home when they get to old to care for themselves or when loved ones
and family can no longer care for them. If they get support in their homes, they will not need to
go through the stress of moving to a different environment in their late age. If they reduce their
stress to as little as possible, they will be more prone to a longer life span. The NDP is promising
a fifty percent increase in the number of doctors and nurses being trained each year, so that there is
more available in hospitals and emergency
The Ipcc On The Climate Change
1.What is this report about?
The IPCC Summary for Policymakers 2014 assesses the impacts of climate change worldwide. The
IPCC Summary for Policymakers provides policy makers an overview of what needs to be
reviewed, further aiding them in creating policies to better manage and reduce the impact of climate
change. The report provides prospective related to how changes through adaptation and mitigation
can benefit the impact on climate change. Furthermore the report evaluates what needs to change,
the options available to make the changes, and it provides prospects as well as restrictions and limits
impeding change.
2.What climate change vulnerabilities are identified for your region? The vulnerabilities are shown
above for North America. Living in Tampa, FL I conclude from this and from the knowledge I have
regarding my state, that the biggest threat would be from rising waters and flooding due to extreme
weather. This is prevalent in Florida due to the state being so close to sea level. Watching the news
recently the world has been able to see the devastation caused by Hurricane Matthew in the coastal
areas of Florida and the other southern states, as well as Haiti. This I imagine is a result of climate
change.
3.Did they surprise you? Why or why not?
I am not surprised by the results of the graph above, as I know the majority of the human race states
they are concerned with climate change however has no regard for the implications of their actions

Reproductive Freedom And Its Impact On Women s Rights
Faye Wattleton, world renowned author of women s reproductive rights once said, Reproductive
freedom is critical to a whole range of issues. If we can t take charge of this most personal aspect
of our lives, we can t take care of anything. It should not be seen as a privilege or as a benefit, but a
fundamental human right. In many traditional societies around the world, women s rights regarding
their own reproductive choices may seem as limited as their opportunities for them. Cultures in
which that deny women s rights and lessen the degree of equality of their gender compared to men,
often present reproductive options as a taboo to discuss. This can lead to misperceptions and
ignorance about healthy reproductive choices such as birth control and prevention of disease which
should be universally acknowledged by women. As expressed by Perez (2015) class notes, every
culture defines and understands health differently...we tend to see the world through the prism of or
expectations. This is true in the sense that more conservative Middle Eastern cultures may be taught
to view health issues differently than most Americans would. Healthcare between cultures is
significant to understand; Irans healthcare market is continuing to expand and assists in the
awareness of women s health. This paper will explore the comparisons and contrasts of the Iranian
women s reproductive choices and how different aspects of health in the general populationaffect
health in Iran and in the
Psychology Chapter 4
Chapter 4 They are different way to try to understand other people, looking at signs like facial
expressions, attitudes and emotions for example. Facial expressions of emotions are when one
part of the face registers one emotion and the other a different emotion. Some cultures express
themselves by movements like gestures, touch, personal space, eye gaze and their tone of voice.
To understand other people we need to observe there behavior. To do that we use general notions
or schemas about personality trails that go together in one person. Some of them are passed from
one generation to another. In my case I observed the people are around me and I try to visualized
their actions: for example one of my co worker one... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This activates an internal self justification process to occur. When a person internally processes
self justification, it creates a larger and much more powerful effect on a person s long held
beliefs or morals than if any external justification is evident. When person advocates publically
for something that is a counter belief to their true ideals, also known as counter attitudinal
advocacy, the person will feel a certain level of dissonance. A clever application of cognitive
dissonance theory is to get someone to like you by having them do you a favor. The reason this
works is that the person needs to internally justify the fact that they did something nice for you.
The converse is true as well. If you harm another person, to reduce the threat to your self image
that could come from doing a bad deed, you will tend to justify what you did by denigrating your
victim: the person deserved it, or he or she is not one of us anyway. In extreme cases such as
conflict and war, many people will embrace the cognition that the victim or enemy deserved
everything they got because they are less than human. Chapter 7 One way that attitudes can change
is when a group of people or persons participate in counter attitudinal advocacy while having little to
no external justification for it. When this happens people will
Evil And Evil In John Milton s Paradise Lost
The concept of evil is becomes relevant because of the concept of the ideal. Through Paradise
Lost, John Milton amplifies the idea that good is only recognized once evil is established. Milton
illustrates an interesting view that Adam and Eve did not actually understand the concept of evil
when Eve pulled the apple from the tree. All they were aware of at the time was that they could do
anything but pull an apple from the Tree of Knowledge. Evilis defined as Arising from actual or
imputed bad character or conduct. (Merriam Webster) In comparison to the evil exemplified in
Paradise Lost, Jonathan Swift uses dark humor the show how the ideal is all that we know. Swift
specifically looks at evil through hierarchy in Gulliver s Travels. Every society Gulliver visits is
formed is some alternative reality than what is understood by humans. This is closely exemplified
in the land of the Houyhnhnms where they rule over the Yahoos. In this case, the Houyhnhnms are
horses and the Yahoos are human like creatures. Throughout this essay, I will articulate that the
usage of evil and hierarchy in Paradise Lost is similar to alternate realities of hierarchy in Gulliver s
Travels. Milton creates the idea of good and evilthrough the idea of human nature to test higher
authority. Lucifer decides to challenge the power of God in heaven which ultimately sends him to
Hell and officially gives him the title of Satan. Milton s interpretation of Satan s fall from Heaven
was compared to that of
Book Report On The Steampunk Genre
Trade ships are sinking and reports of a giant creature are to blame or the attacks . Professor

whether or not they want to gain their freedom back. Better to be a prisoner on the Nautilusthan in

Since they were always at sea the characters and the mood grew weary and longed for land and
real venison. It made Ned Land tempered and made the Professor pleased because he could
research. Since the captain was so secretive that made the mood more sullen and unpleasant at
points. The captain also made the tone tense with his need to know basis and the way he worded
things.
The point of view is first person protagonist and Professor Aronnax is the one telling the story. He
is a researcher and he told the story in his journal and his notes. Since it was told through his notes,
it seemed much more realistic than it would have been if it was told differently, The next day was
the 9th of November. I awoke after a long sleep of twelve hours .(Verne 61)
The characters Professor Aronnax, Ned Land, and Conseil are the three main characters and Captain
Nemo is another important character. Professor Aronnax was a renowned scientist and researcher,
and his tour of the Nautilus was the perfect time for unimaginable research of the depths of the
ocean. Professor Aronnax once said never spills the blood of innocent creatures without good reason
about Nemo the captain of the Nautilus. Professor Aronnax eventually realises that he was wrong
and has to admit that he may have been wrong. Professor Aronnax is torn about whether or not he
wants to leave the Nautilus.

Rube Goldberg Research Paper
Our challenge was to create a Rube Goldberg Machine that could ring a service bell. Additionally,
we needed to document and turn in a team and individual folder. Once we completed the evaluation
of Rube Goldberg s life, cartoons, and machines, my team worked through the challenges of trying to
pull together as a team and create a successful project.
Rube Goldberg was an inventor, engineer, sculptor, author, and cartoonist. Born on July fourth,
1883 in San Francisco, California, Rube grew up in an upper middle class family of Jewish
heritage, and he had shown a love for the arts ever since a young age. At the age of four, Goldberg
spent a lot of time creating things and tracing drawings. Sadly, his mother died when he was a
teenager and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He even won the Pulitzer Prize for his work as an editorial cartoonist. Rube Goldberg s cartoons
depicted different types of complicated inventions. His success as a cartoonist started when he
became the San Francisco Bulletin s sports cartoonist. This point in time was when publishers
began to recognize his work. Rube also became the co founder of the National Cartoonists
Society. It was an organization that showed the importance of cartoons and cartoonists, which
made Goldberg want to be apart of it. (rube goldberg.com, n.d.). Ever since 1988, students have
participated in the Rube Goldberg MachineRube Goldberg machine contest that brings out the
spirit of Goldberg and his unique cartoons (Raga, 2016). Rube Goldberg noted that the machines
were symbols of, man s capacity for exiting maximum effort to accomplish minimal results (O
Connor, 2015, A Simple Task, para. 11). Over time, his cartoon inventions turned into real working
machines, and millions of people became inspired. An excellent example of what Goldberg s
designs are and how they can operate is his famous self operating napkin cartoon. It was a machine
that used a chain reaction to accomplish a simple task, and this was Rube Goldberg s vision for all
the simple machines (National Center for Families Learning,

Calpurnia was written by Lee as a black woman but still is treated fairly and with respect by
Atticus and her race was never mentioned by Jem and Scout highlighting the innocence that lee
intended those two characters to represent. Differently to aunt Alexandra, Calpurnia doesn t push
the idea of being a woman down scouts throat she simply tries to make sure she is presentable but
still who she is, it is scout towards the end of the book as she is a little older that begins to respect
women s roles more, for example by watching her I began to think there was some skill involved
in being a girl. But still because she represents authority to scout and another adult woman trying
to force her to be better behaved scout only sees her as a thorn in her side, in a similar way to
how she sees Aunt Alexandra, Calpurnia is also similar as a person to aunt Alexandria in the way
that she is obsessed with how she is perceived by other people and how well she presents herself,
Jem and scout, (but that is understandable due to the race element of her being judged much more
harshly as a black
