Brown Adipose Tissue (BAT)
Brown adipose tissue (BAT) is derived from the mesenchymal precursor cell which also seems to
give rise to muscle . BATis located mainly around the neck, paravertebral sites, kidneys and large
blood vessels of the thorax. As previously mentioned above, Marcus (1988), demonstrated that TSH
induced lipolysis in BAT from newborns and infants but this declined with age. Recent studies have
profiled different layers of BAT in adults, particularly in the neck and between the shoulder blades
(Nedergaard, 2013). BAT contains multilocular lipid droplets and a high mitochondrial content. Its
primary function is to liberate energy as heat via the consumption of stored energy. This is mediated
by the uncoupling protein 1 (Ucp 1), which embeds in the inner mitochondrial membrane and
produces heat by dissipating the proton electrochemical gradient over the inner mitochondrial
membrane space without generating ATP. The energy in BAT? is stored as perilipin coated lipid
droplets and glycogen granules. Upon temperature stimulation glucose and fatty acid uptake is
rapidly increased to replenish its supplies (reviewed in Sanchez Gurmaches, 2013).
BRITE adipose tissue occurs within WAT tissue depots, in response to chronic cold exposure. Beige
adipose tissue has the characteristics of both white and brown adipocytes. They appear to be like
WAT in basal states but upon cold stimulation, they behave like BAT by becoming multilocular and
expressing the brown fat marker UCP1. However, they are
Accordin s Article Canines To The Rescue
In wars thousands of years past, men have had more than just cannons and swords at their sides.
Dogs have stayed by humans through the impossible, sacrificing themselves for their owners even in
the most life threatening circumstances. What could be more life threatening than the frontlines of a
war, or being on the trail of a dangerous criminal? Dogs have the incredible natural senses and an
unshakable loyalty to humans that makes them a valuable asset to first responders.
The article, Canines to the Rescue tells about how dogs have been used to locate survivors at
Ground Zero in the September 11th terrorist attacks in New York City. Locating the dead and
searching (too often in vain for the living is obviously an emotionally draining task, says the
article, It s no picnic for dogs. Dogs may appear to be simple domestic animals, but they have
emotions and problems just like humans, and are more than capable of thinking for themselves.
These dogs suffer through injury as well as emotional trauma, all the while staying close to their
soldier or their officer. Sometimes, it s hard for a dog to stay away, as the article relates how one dog
urged its owner to go to work even after it had been injured. ... Show more content on

Dog bites kill or seriously injure countless people, and a powerful dog could easily tear through a
human. Dogs, by nature, are wild animals governed by their instincts. However, dogs used by
first responders go through intense training for months on end. They establish an unbreakable
bond with their owners, as seen in the video Soldier Adopts Dog, where a soldier adopts the dog
that saved his life. I owned this dog... I owe her everything, he says. These dogs are just like our
brothers, to our left and our right. His dog currently lives with his family and shows very little
aggression, and, of course, is still loyal to its
Galileo Research Paper
Galileo, or also known as The Father of Modern science , was an Italian polymath, or someone
with a large range of knowledge, who lived from February 15, 1564, to January 8, 1642, He died
at the age of 78. He was born in Pisa, Italy and died in Arcetri, which is near Florence
(Biography.com). He was the oldest son of Vincenzo Galilei, a musician who made important
contributions to the theory and practice of music. He was the first of six kids (History.com). Galileo
and his family moved to Florencein 1574, where the Galilei family has lived for generations. When
he arrived in Florence, he attended a Camaldolese monastery in Vallombrosa. When he got older
enrolled into the University of Pisa in 1581 (Britannica). Galileo brought new ideas and... Show

Galileo was a very interesting person. There is no doubt that he was a great scientist, but he also
was a mathematician, physicist and a professor. He refuted Aristotle s finding multiple times, and
he turned everyone knowledge of the universe on their heads. Without his discoveries, astronauts
and scientist today would not be able to do their jobs if they still believed the Heliocentric
Theory. In his earlier days, he was convicted of heresy, meaning, he has been accused of not
believing in an orthodox religion, because his claims challenged what the people believed in.
When Galileo met a woman by the name Marina Gamba, who he never married probably because
of financial issues or he did not want his reputation to be ruined because of his children. He had
two daughters and a son out of wedlock. His daughters being Virgina and Liva, and a son named
Vincenzo. Galileo was worried that his daughters would not marry well, so when they were older,
he had them enter a convent (biography.com). A convent is a Christian community under monastic
vows, meaning they are not allowed to love and must spend their life on a search for god. Galileo is
a truly powerful scientist, and most of our knowledge would not be here without
Promote Americans And Love For Our Country Analysis
What Can I Do to Promote Americans and Love for Our Country? Americanism is the attachment or
allegiance to the traditions, interests, or ideals of the United States, cited from the Merriam Webster.
It might seem like our country has a hard time coming together and bonding over Americanism,
especially since there are many shootings, as well as, riots going on in present day United Statesof
America. So the main question might be: how can we, the People of the United States of America,
unite and promote our love for our country.
United we stand, divided we fall, are a few words from our founding father, John Dickinson s song,
The Liberty Song. As proven through history, those six words describes how important unity is for
our country and
Rory Gilmore Character Analysis
When I think of a character that is like me I think of the character Rory Gilmore from the 2000 tv
show Gilmore Girls. She starts as a 16 year old girl who dreams of getting into Harvard University.
Rory works so hard to keep her grades up and to keep a healthy relationship with her mother. When
she faces difficult situations in life, she remains kind and dependent. She is always there for her best
friends, relationships, and her family. Lorelai Gilmore is the mother of Rory. Rory s relationship
with her mother is the kind of relationship I have with my mother. They have always had the same
taste in music, movies, and lots of coffee. Rory depends on her mother just as much as her mother
depends on her. When Rory was born it was only her
History Of Wendigo Lake Expedition, An Alternative Open...
This semester, first year Community and Justice Services students were given the opportunity to tour
five facilities relevant to the program. Three facilities that stood out were: Waypoint Mental Health
Centre, Beaver Creek Minimum, and Wendigo Lake Expedition. Each facility had different goals,
security levels, offender profiles and personal impact.

Wendigo Lake Expedition

Nature of Facility Wendigo Lake Expedition is an alternative open youth facility located in South
River, Ontario. They believe that: Using evidence based practices within adventure based therapy
program design, Wendigo Lake operates licensed and accredited residential programs for male youth
at risk ages 13 18. Key features of our residential programs include frequent wilderness expeditions,
on site section 23 programs to catch up on credits and individual, family, and group counseling, all
integrated into an intensive, individualized therapeutic program. Wendigo Lake also designs and
delivers a broad range of experiential education and adventure based programs customized to the
needs of schools, colleges, universities, children services, and professionals engaged in working with
youth. Dynamic security is the main focus of security at Wendigo Lake. There are many people
walking the grounds at all times of the night. There is little static security, which gives the clients
who are there a sense of home. It helps that Wendigo lake is located far into a heavily wooded area.
At Wendigo Lake, not only
The Rise Of The Middle Class
For decades now, our political and economic policy have been constructed around one idea: that if
taxes on the rich go up, job creation will go down. This idea has been the backbone of Republican
trickle down Reagan economics and has been scarcely challenged by Democrats. America s
economy as well as the global economyas a whole are facing extreme income inequality and this
idea has only widened the gap. Our political system has been flooded with the money of the rich
through lobbyists or super PACs, who then are the ones receiving the taxcuts and are garnering
political favors by doing so, effectively moving us farther from a free and fair democracy, but rather
towards oligarchy. The middle class has been fading away due to stagnating... Show more content on

Hanauer begins his argument by comparing the fallacy on hand to another fallacy we once
believed, which turned out to be dead wrong: For thousands of years people were sure that earth
was at the center of the universe. It s not and an astronomer who still believed it was, would do
some lousy astronomy. In doing this, Hanauer seeks to bring out the duh! response out of people
and relate it back to the argument at hand. The argument being that if a policy maker who
believed that the rich and businesses are job creators and therefore should not be taxed, would
make policy equally as lousy. Although he incites the emotional response in the reader he also
backs it up with facts and his experience as one of the plutocrats. He cites his experience as well
as,going into some basic economic theory: I have started or helped start, dozens of business and
initially hired lots of people. But if no one could have afforded to buy what we had to sell, my
businesses would have all failed and all those jobs would have evaporated. He uses this to pivot
to his next point, which is the main point of the argument: That s why I can say with confidence
that rich people don t create jobs, nor do businesses, large or small. He backs it up with his theory,
which is a basic economic principle of demand when broken down: What does lead to more
employment is a circle of life like feedback loop between customers and business. Not only is it not
the rich who create
Allograft Sterilization Essay
Response/Recommendation:
A combined method of allograft sterilization appears to be the best method to reduce the possibility
of viral, bacterial and fungal infection as well as preserve the bio mechanical properties of the graft.
Sterilization methods should involve a low dose of gamma radiation ( 25 KGy), chemical sterilization
and antibiotic soaking. The use of radio protective solutions (i.e. propylene glycol, dimethyl
sulfoxide, mannitol and trehalose) can be effective in reducing the risk of free radical attack to the
collagen from the gamma radiation. Electron based radiation in combination with tissue protective
measure (i.e. low temperature, carbon dioxide) can be an alternative method of sterilization, but
further studies are required to validate this procedure.

Strength of Recommendation: Moderate

Rationale:
Septic arthritis after ACL reconstruction is a rare event, occurring in 0.14 1.8% of cases.1 3
Several studies have demonstrated a lower rate of deep infection after ACL reconstruction (ACLR)

Introduction
According to Fain (2017) the title is written to capture the reader and inform them of the purpose of
the study. The title of the article clearly represents the research report. The variable of interest is
understood from the title. However, the population studied and the setting of the study is not stated
in the title. An abstract is constructed in order to provide a summary of the research study and
should include the purpose and findings in the study (Fain, 2017). There is an abstract provided in the

Review of Literature
According to Fain (2017), in order to validate the need for a study, an updated literature review is
vital. The cited literature is all pertinent to the research problem. The literature review defines the
knowledge gap and it is clearly understood how the researcher reached the objective. The concept
of the literature review is included which states that knowledge of institutional guidelines and
how they are perceived and adhered to by nurses is limited. A brief summary of relevant literature
and implications to the research reveals five professional practice guidelines for VAP prevention
and chose the three that were used most often to describe adherence guidelines as well as explore
how user factors, guideline qualities, and contextual factors influence adherence (Kiyoshi Teo et
al., 2014). The resources used are primarily primary sources which, according to Fain (2017)
means they are written by the person who developed the theory or conducted the research (p. 88).
There appears to be no secondary sources which is good because an appropriate literature review
mainly reflects the use of primary sources (Fain, 2017, p. 88).
Theoretical Framework
In a study based on theory, the framework is usually referred to as theoretical framework (Fain,
2017, p. 103). The theoretical framework was presented clearly in the objective statement of the
article, To identify factors that influence adherence to guidelines for prevention
