Moral and Ethical Issues in Gene Therapy
Moral and Ethical Issues in Gene Therapy Introduction Genetic research has advanced in a
dramatic fashion in the last decade or so, to the point where it has now become possible to
attempt therapeutic genetic modification, in a few cases of human genes, where a defects exists
which manifests itself in certain serious diseases. This possibility, known as gene therapy, is only
in its infancy. At present, no one knows how effective it will prove to be, even in the few
conditions on which it is being tried whether it will only be of relatively limited application, or
whether it will open up many wider possibilities. It suffers both over optimistic claims from some
quarters and exaggerated dangers from others, over which the church needs to... Show more content

Putting it in more scientific terms, we are far more than the sum of our DNA complement.
Moreover, human beings can be described in terms relationship first to God who is himself a Trinity
of persons, then to ourselves in a true self awareness in the light who we are in relationship to God,
thence to other human beings, and to the rest of God s created order. Each of these relationships
leads to moral precepts which sets bounds to what we may do within such a relationship, which may
be applied to genetic technology. In scripture, the problems in which human beings find themselves
are expressed in terms of disobedience to God, arising from a broken relationship with him. Failing
to relate to God, and thus to our fellow humans, leads to distortions of human behaviour with false
precepts, and also to attempting to set up alternative and substitute alliances with things which are
non relational idolatry. Hubris and Humanity In contemporary technological society, one
manifestation is in notions of endless human evolution and improvement the attitude that the sky s
the limit to human endeavour, which finds an echo in the Old Testament story of the tower of Babel
project. Some of the more extravagant claims for the potential of genetics see the human genome
project as a further step along the road of human autonomy and mastery over nature. Another basic
distortion is the tendency to evaluate all things in a material and economic frame of reference,

Analysis Of White Fang By Jack London
The book White Fang is yet another successful novel that was written by Jack London that will
interest nearly anyone who reads it. The novel, featuring people, wolves, dogs, and other animals, is
categorized as realistic fiction. Through the book, London gives readers accurate insight on survival
in the natural world and natural selection, adding importance. It also shows how the presence of
other creatures, especially humans, affects wildlife. Separated into five different parts, this well
written book continues to captivate more and more people. The story takes place mainly far in the
North, specifically in Canada, in Yukon Territory. The action occurs around the same time that Jack
Londons previous book, The Call of the Wild, did.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the beginning, Judge Scott did not trust or care for White Fang much until he saved the judge
from Jim Hall, who attempted to harm him after escaping from prison. Yet, after this, the judge
believed in the wolf and praised him.
The beginning of the novel is about two men, Bill and Henry, traveling in the Yukon. They get
attacked by a group of wolves, lead by a she wolf. While Henry survives, Bill ends up being eaten
by the wolves. After Henry is saved, the story then focuses on the wolves rather than people. After
the pack eats and splits up, it continues on with only three wolves, the she wolf, One Eye, and two
others. One Eye battles with them in order to win the she wolf as a mate, and he succeeds. They
travel as mates and come along an Indian camp where they are able to steal meat from snares.
Soon, she the she wolf is able to find a cave and give birth. Unfortunately, One Eye is killed by a
lynx, and a famin takes place. Due to this, only one pup is able to survive, White Fang. He almost
did not survive, but the she wolf was able to find food. As he grows, the pup discovers men, who
give him his name. When the she wolf arrives, the native men realize that it is Kiche, a half wolf
half dog that escaped. Soon, Grey Beaver becomes their new owner, and there, White Fang
encounters Lip Lip, and for the first time, he sees and gets hurt by fire. White Fang learns
submission from his new owner after attempting to go with his mother after
Statement of Purpose for my Bachelor s in Hawaiian History
Ten years from now I hope that I have graduated and earned both my B.A in Hawaiian History and
M.A in Secondary Education. Recently I was inspired to become an educator in the public school
system. A classmate and educator herself told me that the public school system needs passionate and
dedicated teachers to assist in educating students who do not have the same privileges as private
schools. She explained that public schools need teachers who will help students strive to the best of
their abilities. With fewer resources, support, and funds public schools would benefit greatly from
educators who choose to teach their students through hard work and commitment. Originally I had
planned to become an educator at Kamehameha Schools, the schoolwhere I graduated. The advice I
was given has convinced me that by choosing this career path, I will need to work very hard and
make an effort not only to earn my degree, but also fulfill the requirements of a great teacher. A great
teacher is someone who not only enthusiastically teaches a subject, but also makes a difference in the
lives of his or her students. Teaching goes beyond the classroom, and lessons not only teach students
about the subject, but about life as well. In my experience throughout my education, the teachers who
have made an impact are the ones who actively participate in teaching their students and make sure
that they understand the concept, and how it affects the bigger world around them. I chose Hawaiian

What Opticians Do
Opticians are particular specialists who constructs, fits and apportions lenses for an individual s
vision. Opticians confirm the requirements of different ophthalmic machines that will give the
important remedy to an individual s visual perception. Some enrolled or authorized Opticians
additionally plan and design unique apparatuses to improve nonessential, traumatic or anatomical
deformities. These apparatuses are labeled as shells or fake eyes. Other enrolled or authorized
Opticians produce lenses to their own qualifications and configuration and assemble spectacle frames
and different gadgets.
Opticians advice people when they pick the casings for their glasses in their preferred taste and
colour that suits them best. They inform clients on the fit regarding specific frames. They may be
excessively huge for the individual s face, or too wide. Assuming that they fit well, opticians slice or
granulate lenses consistent with the client s prescription, then fit them into the preferred frames.
The point when clients incline toward contact lenses, opticians must take more intricate assessments
of the eyes. The shape and size of the eye influence what kind of contact lens is required. Opticians
educate clients how to implant and extract contact lenses, and also to tend to them.
Opticians are employed in various diverse settings. They may be situated in medical work places or
small businesses, or they may be in an expansive business settings or stores where numerous

Home Office
Abstract A day at the office no longer means long commutes, dressing in a suit and tie or a dress,
and performing work according to a 9 to 5 schedule with the boss looking over your shoulder.
With the Industrial Revolution came change in how and where people work. The changes were
seen subtly at first; people slowly moved to the cities to find work in factories, but then the
changes started becoming more noticeable. People flocked to the cities because that is where a
person could find work. The days of the small farmer who grew food for his own family were
gone. Big corporations moved in and people were hired in by the hundreds, usually to perform
meaningless, dreary, work. Modern society is seeing a new kind of Industrial Revolution... Show

Another limitation is more studies need to be performed with the companies and employees to
research if the home office is working for both. Trends of Moving from the Employer s Office to
the Home Office With the invention of the telephone and the introduction of the internet along
with other technological advances more people are making the transition from working at the
office to working from home. Home offices are often referred to as virtual offices or virtual
companies. VOXmarketing is a virtual company . It has no headquarters, no cubicles, no
employee break room, no HR office where it takes job applications.... workers are connected via
phones, e mail, and the Internet (Shartin, 2006). Matt Bai, (2007), Political Writer for the New
York Times (NYT), states that in [Mark Penn s] new book, Microtrends , [Penn]...notes that 4.2
million Americans now work exclusively from home (a nearly 100 percent increase from 1990),
while some 20 million do it part time. Some of these workers are employees who telecommute to
traditional offices, but most represent a kind of modern, untethered American work force . Bai
goes on to say that [these people] do most of their work in the comfort of their own homes, or in
their cars, or maybe at Starbucks . One question that needs answered is if a person wants to work
from home and their job duties allow them to work from a remote area, then why shouldn t
companies help the employee make this happen? Bai, (2007),

mammals have held a residency on this Earth for millions of years with ancestors dating back to
prehistoric times. They are not only a part of our history, but also a part of myth and legends that
have been told throughout generations and various cultures. There are three major groups of
marine mammals found around the world. Marine mammals include at least 117 species within the
orders Carnivora, Sirenia, and Cetacea (Thurman, 2014). Today, these often gentle and intelligent
creatures are faced with many obstacles and challenges to survive and adapt. While adaptation has
been a natural process for all species through time and evolution, these sea creatures are being
forced to adapt at a faster rate in the last century. This has been largely due to an increase of human
fishing, ocean pollution, and climate change. Sadly, for some, these adjustments in their natural
environment are creating changes faster than they can evolve or survive. Figure 1 Evolution Sea
mammals have evolved from land animals to marine animals from their former land ancestors
going back as far as the Paleocene Age which occurred 65 million years ago. The earliest

How Electronic Media--From Baby Videos to Educational...
The accessibility of modern technology in the lives of the public advocates the immoderate
consumption of screen time. Within the past century, America s development of futuristic
technologies has surpassed expectations. The tools available today are often looked upon as a major
improvement to society but often enough, the drawbacks are not recognized. As Americans are
submerged in the influx of technological devices, the ability to restrain from them is mitigated.
People prominently enjoy using electronics, specifically television and computers, due to the
proximity they hold in their lives. When an object is constantly surrounding someone, he or she
often becomes attached to it, finding comfort in its presence. Likewise, when a... Show more content

When the television is always on, simply sitting down for a twenty minute program can lead to a
night spent on the couch. However, televisions are not the only culprits contributing to the issue.
The accessibility found in cell phones and computers is beyond extraordinary. The knowledge of
the world can be obtained with a click of a button or a tap of a finger. The introduction of the
internet has revolutionized the way of life for better or for worse. Rather than reading newspapers
and books to retrieve information, people resort to the internet for their means. This is entirely
justifiable, considering the drastic variation in the time required to access information on each
platform. However, smart phones and computers have become the primary way to communicate and
interact with the outside world due to their simplicity and agility. The convenience of modern
technology is partially responsible for America s obsession with screens.
In times of boredom, people often turn to electronics to satisfy their hunger for entertainment.
Society has made it acceptable to rely on television and social media for amusement during free
time rather than participating in more traditional forms of time pass. Reading books and newspapers
has become a burden now that information can so easily be found in the technology that is
becoming more and more accessible. Even children often prefer television to books and toys. The
novelty preference concept
