Writing And Mathematics, Two Vital Mesopotamian Creations
Writing and Mathematics, Two vital Mesopotamian creations
What kind of world would we live in without being able to write or perform mathematic functions?
Writing and mathematics are two of the most indispensable creations crafted by the Mesopotamians
that helped shaped our society as we know it today. The Mesopotamian conception of writing
allowed society to keep records, to document events, and to establish a formal educational system.
With the ability to keep records, a system of mathematics was recorded which assisted in
development of monetary systems, a way to tell time, the ability to build buildings, and the skills
to survey lands. The expansion of knowledge delivered by the creation of Mesopotamian writing
and mathematics was crucial to building the cultural society that has evolved from Meopotamian
times to the present. Cultural and social evolution relys on the understanding of the past and
learning from our successes and our failures. Therfore, record keeping was crucial to the nurturing
the evolution of society. With the importance of record keeping being recognized, the
Mesopotamians developed Cuneiform, the first recognized form of writing.. Initially, Cuneiform,
meaning wedge shaped , existed as pictographs drawn in clay tablets by a stylus made of a reed.
The tablet was baked in the sun making it practically indestructible. (World History book 7th
edition) There were disadvantages to clay: large documents were heavy and once baked no changes
Persuasive Essay On Save Animals
Animals are the beginning to the best nerve wrecking filled love you could ever dream of for
your life. Ever since I was a young child, I ve always resonated with the idea of helping animals
more so than anyone and anything else in this world. My love for animals had begun when I was a
mere four years old. I ve always had pets: dogs, cats, hamsters, guinea pigs, and much more. To find
out more about how to help adoptable animals in shelters, I contacted Amanda Smasal, a community
outreach coordinator at Wayside Waifs. Wayside Waifs is no kill shelterlocated in Kansas City,
Missouri which has adoptable dogs and cats, ready and willing to go to safe, loving homes. When
I first emailed Smasal asking if she would participate in the interview, I felt overwhelming fear
and began to panic about the whole encounter. The fear of having to ask someone I had never met
to talk with me is something that scares me. Nonetheless, I sent the email asking politely yet
efficiently to see if she would give me a few of her precious minutes to answer questions about a
cause worth fighting for: animal rescue hospitals. She quickly responded to my quaint email
approximately a day later stating she would happily answer any and all questions I have,
significant or insignificant. The questions took a couple days to figure out. The few days I had to
create the questions were filled with creativity and a tad bit of questionable ideas. The questions I
asked her were the things I would want to
Uncle Tom s Cabin Response

Uncle Tom s Cabin
The novel Uncle Tom s Cabin, written by Harriet Beecher Stowe, depicts an Anti Slavery view as
the author tells the story of a slave named Uncle Tom and the different journeys he takes showing
readers how harsh and cruel the slave life was. In this book the main characters are Uncle Tom,
Eliza and George Harris. Although this book is not non fiction it is truly based on various events that
actually took place in southern history.
Uncle Tom s Cabin takes place in Mississippi and Kentucky in the late 1800s right after the civil
war based on Uncle Tom who was a very obedient slave who followed everything and anything his
master would tell him to do. Uncle Tom also ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
From the very beginning of this novel I admired the main character Uncle Tom in various ways, but
by the very end of the story Uncle Tom became my hero. As author Harriet Beecher Stowe
illustrates the events that takes place in Uncle Tom s life he reacted with God in his heart. When
Stowe walked readers through each stage of his life as a slave being passed on to owner after
owner, readers were given a clearer and better understanding of the African American slaves
struggle. As Stowe narrates the description of the way the slaves were treated I was truly affected
and with each description my feelings of hurt grew deeper and deeper. I realized in reading Uncle
Tom s Cabin that he was a strong but yet so gentle individual and I thought over where might his
strength truly came from. It is true and obvious that Uncle Tom was an extremely God fearing man
who that practiced on becoming a truthful
The Burqa Should Be Banned
In April 2010 president Nicolas Sarkozy of France announced the official ban of a full face veil in
France because the government believes that it symbolizes that women are being suppressed. People
tend to blame the president for the ban, but fail to understand the bicameral parliament of France
had a saying in this decision. The ban has become controversial due to S.A.S attempting to sue the
French government but France is doing what is best for all of its citizens.
The burqa should be banned due to various reasons such as the negative impact it has on an
individual, it doesn t violate citizen s rights and the burqa symbolizes oppression.
Many people believe that Nicolas Sarkozy has placed the ban in order to be re elected, but
individuals that believe that are being misinformed. In 2004, the French parliament adopted a
law that prohibits headscarves in public schools. The ban of headscarves has been going on for
many years in France, but it is only just receiving attention due to S.A.S trying to sue the French
government. According to President Nicolas Sarkozy, the reason for the burqa ban is because,
The problem of the burqa is not a religious problem, it s a problem of liberty and women s dignity.
It s not a religious symbol, but a sign of subservience and debasement. I want to say solemnly, the
burka is not welcome in France. In our country, we can t accept women prisoners behind a screen,
cut off from all social life, deprived of all identity. That s not our idea of

A consumer behavior is defined as the study of how individuals, organizations, and different
groups select, buy, use, and dispose of services, goods, ideas, or experiences to satisfy their implied

In other words, TiVo main issues are based on how it should position itself in its consumers minds to
help it be ahead of its competitors, how to segment its targeted market, and which segment is more

universally (in the U.S), and what market research should be done next to introspect on its consumer

Situational Analysis After entering the entertainment market in 1999, TiVo had a competitive

Summary Of Hercules 12 Labors
The 12 Labors of Hercules
Hercules was assigned 12 Labors by Eurystheus to prove that he was the son of the God Zeus.
Alcmene, Hercules mother, was a mortal as was Hercules ( Hercules and His Twelve Labors ). He
exemplified heroism and bravery, envied by his own cousin Eurystheus and his father s wife Juno.
That is why Hercules was given the 12 labors.
Juno who is most hostile to children , sends two snakes to kill young Hercules while he slept in his
crib. Instead of screaming, Hercules strangles the two serpents playfully, thinking they were toys
(Genovese). As he grows older more of his strength starts to show and he starts to achieve more
goals such as killing a lion single handedly and partaking in the war. This soon resulted in envy from
Juno and Eurystheus. Juno reports this to Eurystheus, and demand that he give Hercules the 12
Labors. Juno makes him give Hercules these task, because he thinks that one will kill ... Show more

This labor is where Juno sends a lion to a town to eat the people of Nemea. Hercules can t use his
bow to kill the lion because his bow is not narrow enough to pierce the lion s thick furry skin . So
Hercules single handedly killed the lion and wore his skin as a symbol of protection.
The second Labor given was the Lernaean Hydra . The Lernaean Hydra was a creature who lived
in a swamp with odors so strong that it killed anyone or anything that dared to smell it . Therefore
, Hercules slices his head but for every head he cut off two more appeared . He soon got a flaming
brand from a friend and burns each stump after each head was served off. After each head he cuts
off he finally comes to the 9th head and he cuts it off and buried it under a rock.
The 3rd Labor was The Hind of Ceryneia , that is where Hercules captures the Erymanthian boar and
brings it back on his shoulders. Eurystheus was so frightened by the beast that he hid it in a
Lord Byron And Childe Harold s Pilgrimage By Samuel Taylor...
If you want an inside glimpse into the man that Lord Byron was, all you need to do is pick up
some of his prose. In any of his pieces, there s a raw sense of emotion and vulnerability that no
other Romantic shows. William Blake wrote of nature and religion. William Wordsworth wrote of
the beauty of nature and how it made him feel in hindsight. Samuel Taylor Coleridge wrote of the
supernatural and a sense of peace that eventually fades away. All of those Romantic poets used a
piece of their life in their works, whether large or small, but not to the extent that Lord Byron did.
The way that Byron pours his personal life into the prose without overtly putting himself in there,
putting in emotion and internal dialogue without being too... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Another important part in Childe Harold s Pilgrimage, Byron unknowingly gives the first
glimpse into what would later be referred to as the Byronic Hero. The Byronic Hero is usually a
man who is smart and cunning. He s sophisticated, moody, and anti authority. He s an arrogant,
cynical exile who knew himself the most unfit Of men to heard with Man; with whom he held
Little in common (lines 100 102) and engages in self destructive behavior including sex, drugs,
and alcohol. He was Proud though in desolation; which could find A life within itself, to breathe
without mankind (lines 107 108) which shows that the Byronic hero did not need anyone else.
While this describes most of Byron s characters, it also describes clichéd love interests in modern
day teen novels and a classic trope in film and television. By describing himself and drawing upon
himself for inspiration, Byron created something so iconic and unwavering that, very likely, will
never die down. While Byron is himself the original Byronic Hero, other Romantics did not follow
his footsteps: a fever at the core, Fatal to him who bears, to all who ever bore, (lines 377 378) most
Byronic Heroes die relatively young, in a blaze of flames and rebellious greatness. Blake and
Wordsworth died at 70 and 80 years of age, respectively. Byron, however, died at the age of 36

Summary Of An Orb Of White By Charles Darwin Essay
An Orb of White Charles Darwin once stated, Looking to the world at no very distant date, what an
endless number of the lower races will have been eliminated by the higher civilized races throughout
the world, after witnessing the path civilization was following after the introduction of Darwinism (
A Quote by Charles Darwin). White individuals have been seen as innovative, powerful individuals,
but are infamous for their pursuit of power, which includes the persecution of other races. This has
been shown in countless racial and ethnic issues in countries whose population is mainly White, but
individuals still insist that White supremacy is dead. However, this is not the case, as White
supremacy is very much alive, almost as alive as in the past even. The world is and will forever be
White, as White individuals are exceeding their countless racial counterparts economically, socially,
and historically. Caucasians are dominating civilization economically. In terms of economics, Whites
are notorious for their stunning outperformance of other races. Unemployment rates in America are
a fine demonstration, as Whites have an unemployment rate of 4.3%, while African and Hispanics
have unemployment rates well over 5% ( Unemployment Demographics ). In median household
incomes, Whites earn 6000$ more annually than all other races, aside from Asians, who are
overrepresented high income areas, while earning 15,000$ more than Hispanic and African
Americans (Perlberg; Austin). An even
Human Sexuality and Masturbation Good Morning
From the Prehistoric Era to Modern Times: A Historical Perspective on Masturbation
Good morning. I m here to talk about a sensitive topic, an issue that is present since the beginning
of mankind but is only being widely accepted today. Before anything else, I will show you some
pictures. Can anyone please tell me what these ancient images depict? Are they cooking? Are they
worshiping their gods? You re correct. They are masturbating! Ancient people express their emotions
and everything they see in drawings. These drawings serve as a mirror that reflects their early
society and these images show us that masturbation had been practiced since the dawn of mankind.

It is not uncommon however to begin much earlier, and this is more frequent among females: 18%
had begun by the time they turned 10, and 6% already by the time they turned 6. Being the main
outlet of child sexuality, masturbation has been observed in very young children. In the book
Human Sexuality: Diversity in Contemporary America, by Strong, Devault and Sayad, the authors
point out, A baby boy may laugh in his crib while playing with his erect penis. Baby girls sometimes
move their bodies rhythmically, almost violently, appearing to experience orgasm.
The frequency of masturbation declines after the age of 17. However, most males masturbate daily
or even more frequently well into their 20s and sometimes far beyond. This decline is more drastic
among females, and more gradual among males. While females aged 13 17 masturbated almost
once a day on average, adult women only masturbated 8 9 times a month, compared to the 18 22
among men. It is also apparent that masturbation frequency declines with age. Adolescent youths
report being able to masturbate to ejaculation six or more times per day, while men in middle age
report being hard pressed to ejaculate even once per day. Both sexes occasionally engage in this
activity, however, even when in sexually active relationships. In general it is believed that
individuals of either sex who are not in sexually active relationships tend to masturbate more
frequently than those who are;
Differences Between Defence And Offense
In every game that people play whether it s chess, basketball or football, the players or teams need
offense and defense. Not every person s mind thinks in an offensive style and not every person
thinks defensively. The way you play games is entirely up to you. Many people don t even realize
the major differences that tend to come out in these styles but the subtle similarities. The basic
structure of many games starts with defenseand offense, then comes all the rules. The major
difference in defence and offense is the pace of the player. Offense is typically a more aggressive
strategy. Fast paced moves with the hopes of making their opponent panic and make silly mistakes.
Many defensive players take their time and instead of forcing mistakes they try to let the other
player make them on their own. Once they make too many mistakes they add up and the gameis
usually lost. Also on defense you have the option to counter the attacker because they have to make
the first move. In some sports these most common... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They both require the same amount of thinking but the paths of thought process is completely
different. Defense has the goal to shut down, whereas offense would like to demoralize their
opponent by simply outscoring them making them believe they won t be able to keep up. An
example would be chess you must protect your king at all costs but you could just try to take the
other players key pieces making it tough for them to comeback. Or you can defend until the
attack with a key piece like the queen the take it out. Once you defend enough you will have to
attempt a move on the king. Just like when you keep attacking at some point it may be wise to
take repercussions to defend. In sports like football after you have a turnover and the ball is on
offense you need to be capable of capitalizing and at least get a field goal. Offense and defense go
hand in hand even though they are polar

iii. 100 105) While Sir Jasper believes that his wife is talking about obtaining a china vase from
Horner, she is actually using the word china to represent something sexual. In the china scene Lady
Fidget is given symbolic power over men because she is the one who is in control of the situation by
having her husband deceived and Horner complying with her wishes. Lady Fidget makes use of
her sexuality to obtain attention because as she says earlier, Indeed, as the world goes, I wonder
there are no more jealous since wives are so neglected. (II.i.342 343) Lady Fidget is not receiving
the attention should would like from her husband and because of this she is taking matters into her
own hands and making sure she obtains attention by participating in liaisons with Horner. Lady
Fidget s refusal to allow her husband s neglect affect her enjoyment of life demonstrates that she is
an independent woman who does not have to rely on her husband to achieve what she wants. As
well as being characterized as clever, Lady Fidget is also shown to be hypocritical because she
constantly boasts of her honor and virtue in amongst people and yet in her private life she is
anything but honorable and virtuous due to the affair that she has with Horner. When Lady Fidget
says, Tis not an injury to a husband, till it be an injury to our honours, so
Bilbo Book Reports
Before him lies the great bottom most cellar or dungeon hall of the ancient dwarves right at the
Mountain s root. It is almost dark so that its vastness can only be dimly guessed, but rising from
the near side of the rocky floor there is a great glow. The glow of Smaug! (Tolkien 215). This
particular passage that describes a horrific scene about a dragon, is from a novel called The Hobbit,
and was written by J.R.R Tolkien. Later on, this book was also made into a movie, which was
directed by Peter Jackson, that made several changes to make his movie seem more interesting but
not as accordingly to the author s purpose. The story is about a young Hobbit, whose name is Bilbo
Baggins. Hobbit s are not known for having adventures. In Fact, they... Show more content on

In the book, it is said that Bilbo is the one who fights Smaug and defeats him. The author wrote, It
was at this point that Bilbo stopped. Going on from there was the bravest thing he ever did. The
tremendous things that happened afterwards were as nothing compared to it. He fought the real
battle in the tunnel alone, before he ever saw the vast danger that lay in wait... (Tolkien 214 215).
Here, it clearly says that Bilbo fights the dragon alone in the mountain, without support from the
dwarves. The purpose for this is to make the readers see that Bilbo is transforming to be much
more brave, strong, and clever. This way, it is more convincing to think that he can take on the
big boss all by himself. J.R.R Tolkien wants Bilbo to be more independent in this situation and
not rely on the dwarves. This impacts the storyline by having the readers look back and compare
how Bilbo behaved before he had any experience of being a burglar. On the other hand, the movie
has Smaug conflicting with the rest of Bilbo s friends, making Bilbo seem useless in the
background. Although Bilbo was alone with the dragon for a few minutes, he had to call the
dwarves for help afterward. The movie also has the dwarves distracting Smaug, and Bilbo had to go
along with Thorin s plan, Bilbo was suppose to be in place of Thorn. The whole idea of Bilbo battling
Professional Theatre Vs School-Based Theater
Perhaps it s easy to assume that all theatre experiences are the same; after all, they include the same
ingredients. You need a cast, a set, a director, a stage manager, and a few crewmembers to do the
technological work. The differences between working in a professional theater and a school based
theater shouldn t be that prominent, in the end. Except they are, and it s not nearly that simple.
Compared to the stage in Loeb, the Philadelphia TheatreCompany located in Center City is, in fact,
a completely different beast altogether. The theatre itself is located on the corner of Broad and
Lombard with a separate office a few blocks down, but the main building is sprawling enough as it
is. For the month of January, the company elected to put... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As the show came together, the core crew was established; it was to be the stage manager, her
assistant, the director, the actresses, and myself. As more elements were added, the distribution
of the jobs became clear; the stage manager was to record and check out blocking, the assistant
stage manager was to keep an eye on props and reset them whenever necessary, and I was to watch
for lines. This placed me in a position wherein I would have to tell the actresses, at least thirty
years my senior and two astoundingly talented figures, what to do and how to phrase certain lines.
Not only was this prospect daunting, but it was terrifying; I entered this project assuming I would
be told what to do, but what they needed of me was to tell others what to do. The community of
theatre, I realized then (and still hold with me now), did not rely on the heavy power structures that
the rest of the world seems to care about so deeply; there is give and take. The director tells the
stage manager what to do, yet sometimes the situation is switched. The actresses take instruction
from the director, but the director will listen to them for thoughts on where the scene should go.
Therefore, despite my small position as a standby assistant for whoever needs it, it was expected of
me to correct the actresses and give them cues when necessary (no matter how uncomfortable I felt
with it). I was nervous at the thought and yet this

I was the youngest one there and the meeting I attended was very casual, people were not in a
circle, but just scattered around the room and they all knew each other except there was one or
two newcomers in the meeting. They do indeed start by saying Hi, I am ____ and I am an
alcoholic and everyone responds Hi _____ before someone tells their story and when they finish
everyone says Thanks ______. I really enjoyed this, because it shows a sign of caring and that you
are interested in what everyone has to say. When the floor first opened for discussion, I was a little
shocked for how long it took someone to start talking only because a lot of them mentioned how
long they have been going to this specific location for meetings. But, once the floor opened everyone
started to explain their stories and they don t play the victim, because they know they have
alcoholism and they cannot change that, but work to fix it in their own lives. Everyone s stories
were very personal and the stories that hit me the most were the ones who said they lost the
custody of their children and if it wasn t for AA they would have never been able to gain that
custody back. I also liked how a lot said I am sober and I know I can stay sober, but I keep coming
back, because without the help of each other then we could not succeed. I enjoyed how homey it felt
in the meeting, they had coffee and
