The Pros And Cons Of Motivational Interviewing
Changing is something that someone has to want to do, if there is no motivation things will stay
the same. The first step to change is knowing and accepting the wrong that has been done and
trying to figure out a way to change. There are numerous of practices that are used to help an
offender bring their mistake to the light. These types of methods are called Evidence Based
Practices and are used to help both the offender and probation officer learn to communicate on a
different level. Evidence based practices are cognitive behavioral training, vocational education and
training programs and treatment oriented intensive supervision program. They are used to
reintegrate offender s back into the community successfully. The type of evidence based practice
that I am going to talk about is motivational interviewing, the pro and cons and if it helps the
offenders learn from their mistakes and if it is going to help in the future.
Motivational Interviewing is to me is someone using whether business or personal experiences to
relate and motivate those on probation. The biggest step in this is education first on what needs to be
hashed out. Second is what positive steps the individual should take or the officer willing to point
out in the rehabilitation process. Most importantly honesty is a must. And open door can never close
and motivation cannot be forced. Through education and field work this form or communication can
be utilized and thrive in a society. According to scholars
In The Mood For Love
Wong Kar Wai s movies often have a particular style of murmuring, the movie In the Mood for
Love isn t an exception. Wong focuses on describing the regret and helplessness repeatedly during
the movie time. Yet the background of the movie is based on the period of 1960s in Hong Kong,
Wong keeps highlighting the city Shanghai and leaves many clues of it: the song singing in
Shanghainese in the very beginning of the movie; the Shanghainese land lady, who is willing to
sharing her room with the main character Suu, who also moved from Shanghai, and the traditional
dress of Shanghai women: Cheongsam, which Suu wears it all the time during the movie. Wong
shows his memory of Shanghai in this movie, reflecting his nostalgia by those symbols.
Essay on Animal Experimentation
I have always had a great admiration for animals. Being an animal owner of two dogs, I believe
that they are a friend of the human and both benefit from each other in the sense of company and
joy. They are also great contributors to the balance of the eco system. These are some of the various
reasons why I chose this topic. In this research paper I will inform you, the reader of the horrible
experiences that innocent animals have to endure due to the fact that supporters believe that animal
experimenting is a humane method of bettering our lives. Animal experimentation is a very
substantial issue that has been debated for a large period of time. The antagonism of animal
experimenting is not a new issue. Numerous people support the usage... Show more content on

There are several areas of experimenting. One includes basic research, which is biomedical
research to investigate animals in a physiological manner where animals are seen more as
machines and necessarily don t experience pain. There is also applied biomedical research where
animals are used for disease testing by testing and toxic substances and also surgical research is
conducted where physical pain occurs .Another field is regulatory testing of drugs, compounds
and products and animals are forced take these substances according to regulations. Similar to
routine testing there is also routine testing for biological substances such as vaccines before they
are put out for the use of people. In this field sadly the animals have to develop the horrible
symptoms of the disease itself before they are given the vaccine. Lastly, animals are used for
educational purposes, where animals are used for dissection in undergraduate classes and students
often have no choice but to dissect the animals if they expect to succeed in their career (Kolar, 114).
Advocates of animal experimenting believe that animals should be used for the advancement of
humans. They believe that is ethical and uncruel to animals. Many also believe that animals don t
have rights due to the fact that they are inferior to the human kind. They also dispute that animal
research is a great method towards the advancement of medicine and has contributed greatly over the
past years. Lastly, they assume
Vermont Teddy Bear Case
Although Vermont Teddy Bear is a company with a rich track record in the business of last minute
gifts , its mission statement lacked its basic goals and philosophies that aim to shape its strategic
posture. Vermont s mission statement clearly speaks to someone who is well acquainted with what
the company does and what it sells, which is in my opinion a crucial point that the company missed
when they addressed its customers. The following points provide an insight on what went wrong
when Vermont decided to formulate its mission statement: * The Basic Product the company sells:

As for Labor, and given the massive production the company is required to undertake to meet its
customers needs especially in special occasions such as Christmas, Valentine s Day amp; Mother s
Day , the company heavily relied on outsourced home workers who performed production functions
at their homes and hence were treated as independent contractors. Although these home workers
/independent contractors allowed the company flexibility in meeting heavy demand as mentioned
earlier which allowed them in scheduling their hours of work, home workers were free to reject
or accept any work offered by the company which might make the company vulnerable to failure in
meeting its customers heavy demand especially in high season sales. The company maintains a
solid HR system through a strong built bear culture among employees. The company s manpower
do not belong to any unions which eliminates any Labor issues. on the credit side I believe that the
company does not face any problem with external financing; the company has two sources of
financing, equity through issuance of shares since it is a traded company in the New York stock
exchange market, in addition to debt and leasing which can be provided through commercial banks
and leasing companies, which in my opinion is not a viable point for Vermont as it already
consumed most of its credit limits lately, comparing with its competitors who had greater financial
resources. Historically, the company s

Frederick Douglass Speech
In 1852, when Frederick Douglass, a prominent civil rights activist and former slave, was invited
to speak in front of a modest audience of abolitionists in commemoration of Independence Day,
surely they were unprepared. Surely, they were expecting a tone far less solemn. Surely some, if
not most, went home that day with at least a fraction of their patriotism replaced with something
far more unsettling. Perhaps it was a newfound perspective: the perspective of an American slave
on Independence Day a day that was, according to Douglass, not a celebration applicable to a
person of color. The purpose of Douglass s speech, The Hypocrisy of the Nation Must Be
Exposed , is exactly that: to evoke a response that makes people uncomfortable, a response that
makes people reconsider. In this piece, he criticizes the nation s blatant disregard for its own
founding principles through the practice of slavery, reminding his audience that many are still a far
cry from being truly free. Douglass is able to call attention to severe injustices faced by enslaved
blacks across the nation and expose the corruption of the United Statesthrough the use of literary
devices and rhetorical appeals within his speech. Frederick Douglass begins his speech by
immediately introducing a literary device. A rhetorical questionis defined as a question asked in
order to create a dramatic effect or to make a point rather than to get an answer . Douglass offers
several rhetorical questions in succession,
Puccini s La Boheme Essay
Puccini s La Bohème: An Analysis

Giacomo Puccini has written a number of operas, including Turandot, Gianni Schicchi, and Madama
Butterfly. La Bohème is said to be one of the most successful and enchanting operas ever written.
Written in the romantic period, the text and score interrelations play an important role in an overall
aesthetically and historically pleasing opera. In a story of love found and love lost, Puccini uses text
and score to create empathy for the characters of La Boheme. Puccini does so particularly in the
aria Donde lieta uscì, sung by Mimi towards the end of Act III.

Mimi introduces herself as a seamstress and neighbor looking for Rudolpho to light her candle. They
soon develop a romantic relationship which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This music is returned to show the yearning for the past and lets the audience, if only for a moment,
remember the carefree love that Mimi and Rudolpho initially shared.

Mimi goes on to sing Addio, senza rancor, which translates to farewell, without remorse. Although
this may seem like a rather sarcastic or bitter comment after the uplifting score in the past two bars,
this line is accompanied by two sustained chords. Puccini uses this minimalistic approach to reflect
the simplicity of the text itself. Spike Hughes, author of Famous Puccini Operas, says, there is
indeed no bitterness, but a great deal of sadness...the whole scene has a strangely moving quality of
melancholy and nostalgic regret that such things cannot go on for ever. Although there is no
bitterness, you sense a great deal of remorse. This phrase gives the sense of a moment of rest from
the silence in the instrumental to the held soprano line.

Rudolpho begins to walk away, but Mimi beckons him with an out of place Ascolta, ascolta, or
wait, wait and gives instructions of trinkets she would like him to gather. These trinkets include a
gold ring and prayer book she has left in a drawer, that she wishes Rudolpho to wrap up and she
will send someone to gather them. The score has a dissonant sense at the beginning of each phrase
to show Mimi s sadness, but in a curious contrast staccato arpeggios occur at the end of each phrase
once more reminding all that

decay. By having fluoride in water, you can help prevent yourself from having tooth decay, the most
common childhood disease, in the most efficient way. Apparently water fluoridation is very effective
that the Centre for Disease Control and Prevention put it in the top ten of great public health
achievements of the 20th century. Secondly, it protects the teethof all ages. It has been recognised by
World Health Organisation, American Dental Association and U.S. Surgeons General that water

Oligopoly Behavior in the Airline Industry. Case Analysis
Oligopoly Behavior in the Airline Industry. Case Analysis This case illustrates the pricing behavior
of firms that are oligopoly whose market is characterized by the relative few participating firms
offering differentiated or standardized products or services. Such firms in an oligopoly have market
power derived from barriers of entry that wards off potential participants. As seen in the case, it is
clear that because there are a small number of US Airlines firms competing with each other, their
behavior is mutually interdependent thus, the strategies and decisions by one airlinemanagement
affect managements of the other airlines whose subsequent decisions then affect the first airline. In
the airline industry, such oligopolistic... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When they didn t, the airline retaliated by offering deep cuts in fares on several routes flown by
its competitors. Northwest airline responded with a $198 round trip fares with connections on
routes for which American airline s average fare was $1,600. American s response was to offer $99
one way fairs in 10 markets flown by each of the other competitors except that of Continental Airlines
which had followed and matched the leader s (American Airline) original changes in all markets.
With respect to the concept of strategic behavior exhibited by firms in an oligopolistic setting, some
firms may try to achieve a dominant strategy that yields them better results and do not flip flop, no
matter what strategies other industry participant follow. This was illustrated in the case, when, in
2004, Continental Airlines raised its fares to mitigate rising cost of aviation fuel. Firms in an
oligopoly may differ in terms of their cost structure and the airline industry is no exception and
participants do exhibit strategies that enable them not to follow price increases driven by aviation
fuel cost.

For example, when it comes to cost of inputs, such as fuel, the price taken may be different due to
hedging (contract to mitigate their exposure to future fuel prices that may be higher than current
prices ) a risk management technique to reduce the risk of adverse price
Fast Food Based American Diet
In contrast to the fast food based American diet, the French spend large amounts of time
advancing their world famous cooking. To the French cooking is a form of art which is vital to
their culture, and the French s dedication to cooking has made it a high standard in the world. The
traditions that have been developed over the centuries have added to the making of French cuisine
into a skilled and refined art. The French are responsible for the historic tradition of serving dishes
in separate courses. The French call it service a la ruses. The root of Frances extraordinary cooking
is in their culture. Eating well is extremely important to the French people all of which enjoy

When people think of French gastronomy wine is an essential component of her culture. While it
remains a one of many licit joys the French indulge in, this gluttony is an important image and
offering to tourist. Although parts of France greatly rely on the production and manufacturing of
wine more than the actual consumption, they still rather enjoy their wine. Oenology in itself is a
very interesting study and takes the appreciation of the drink to a whole new level. French wine
is much like the French themselves its well dressed, elegant, never overpowering, and well
behaved. Even on the topic of Oenology the variety and quality that France provides is incredible.
Two well known regions, Rhône and Bordeaux, produce the some famous wine names such as
Côtes du Rhône and Château d Yquem. The Côtes du Rhône is more earthy and tends to be
described as rustic while Château d Yquem is a sweeter or dry wine, and also holds the record for
most expensive wine bought at 117,000$. Avoiding great detail it s easy to say that the difference
starts in the soil that makes the grapes. In a way the wine can be seen as a model for modern
production and food by promoting quality and variety, in other words, an optimistic point of view
for French food. France is always advancing in food and wine production therefore it is a fair
assumption that they will continue to grow together.

Lar Gibbon
Lar gibbon (Hylobates lar), also known as white handed gibbon, belongs to Hylobatidae family and
Hominoidea superfamily. They are mostly found in Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar and
Thailand and have once lived in Southwest Yunnan, China before extinction. Moving south from
southwest Yunnan, lar gibbons are found in the majority of Thailand excepting the north eastern
areas of the country. (Gron, 2010) The range extends south through southern and eastern Myanmar
but only east of the Salween River. Their habitat was once large and ranged from China all the
way to south Asia. In Thailand alone, the population of lar gibbons probably reach a number of
20,000. They prefer to live in forests below 1200 meters above sea level. To be more specific,...

The main method of socializing, according to my observation, is grooming. During the two hour
time period, these two gibbons spend almost an hour grooming each other. To be more specifically,
the female gibbon groom, while the male one rest on a tree. What also astonishes me is that the
female groom exactly the same spot on the male body. It might be like what the professor
suggest: grooming may serve way more than the purpose of keeping hygiene because we expect a
larger area of the body to be groomed. It should not for reducing anxiety or heart rate because
humans do not seem to be a threat to them since they see the presence of us every day.
From what I know, fruit forms 50% of their diet. However, the only food they can consume is
grass, which is only about 30% of their diet. They might have adopted this different diet, but it is
certain that they are not the same with wild gibbons anymore. On average, females reproduce for
the first time at about 11 years of age in the wild, much later than in captivity (Gron, 2010). Living
in places where they do not belong to affects multiple aspects of their
