Compare And Contrast Louis Dumont And The Caste System
Write a short note on the similarities and differences in the perspectives on caste adopted by Louis
Dumont and B.R. Ambedkar.
Dumont s perspective on caste system
Dumont s perspective on caste system was primarily concerned with the ideology of the caste
system. His understanding of caste lays emphasis on attributes of caste that is why his approach is
called attributional approach to the caste system. For him caste is set of relationships of economic,
political and kinship systems, sustained by certain values which are mostly religious in nature.
Hierarchy in modern western sense has been replaced by the term social stratification which itself
proves to be hindrance in the understanding of the peculiarities of caste system in India. Caste is
not a form of social stratification, the ideology of caste system is directly contradicted to egalitarian
theory of west . Dumont argues that if caste is a social stratification than caste and social class are
phenomena of same nature,(2) that hierarchy is incomprehensible, (3) that in the Indian system the
separation and the interdependence of groups are subordinated to this sort of obscure or
shamefaced hierarchy(hierarchy itself is shame faced) caste is a limiting case of social class in
modern sense of the term. Dumont agrees with Bougle s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Scheduled caste, experience (lived experience) plays an important epistemological role in
production of thoughts. Experience is prior to thinking and knowing. For him existing society is
driven by text like Manu smriti, which has formidable cognitive influence on conservative social
consciousness. This makes it difficult for Dalits or women to rely on such texts. Whereas for
Dumont India was a foreign Land and he did not have lived experience also that s way unable to
produce any solution for abolishing
The Negative Effects Of Bullying s Effects, And Its Effects
Although both secondary and primary sources describe the impact that bullying has on the victim
as being negative, there are still differences between them. Natalie, the fifteen year old victim, says,
Soon I was diagnosed with depression and anxiety. I lost all self esteem and became paranoid about
people (Sawer). Depression, anxiety, and the other effects Natalie experienced from bullyingare all
harmful. She also said she considered suicide and would perform self harm by doing things like
tearing out her hair. The personal side of what bullying can cause a person to do/feel are revealed
through what Natalie described. Although not as severe as Natalie, the other bullying victim, Eric,
also had a damaging experience with bullying while it was occurring. Eric says, I think it s fair to
say that bullying never affects the victim positively at a young age. It made me very shy and
scared. I always felt like I had to be on guard (Goldman). The bullying had a negative impact on
Eric s life while it was occurring. He felt shy and scared which could be averse to his mental and
physical health. The perpetrators made both the victims feel desolate. Feeling grim led to short term
mental and physical issues such as being fearful and suicidal. The problems that Natalie and Eric
faced shows the damaging impact that bullying had on the victim. The personal experience that is
discussed is what makes the difference between the primary and the secondary source.

Bobby Askedahl s The Cal Bomber
Stanford College is struck with a bomb making one person permanently injured and killing the
second. The Cal Bomber is someone who has been sending bombs to colleges around California
trying to get revenge for the rise of technology and the point across that we need to go back to the
time without relying on it. For years after years of this violence, the Cal Bomber was still not found
and remained anonymous. Natalie, a teacher with two daughters and a husband that gets home very
late because of work, is struck with a feeling that her brother, Bobby Askedahl, is the terrorizing Cal
Bomber. The manifesto of the bomber and her brothers last letter to her sound remarkably similar.

The characters bring a riveting story to life when reading. Throughout the book, I felt emotions
left and right for the characters and what they were going through. There is a lot of mystery and
questioning that will be answered later in the book, but once its done, there are still many
questions being asked. when I look for a book, that is something that stands out to me because I
really want to read more, and when you have that reaction to a book, that means it was worth
reading. I found this book remarkable because of the behaviors, characteristics, and decisions that
the characters make, and I recommend this book to everyone, even if they don t like to
The Role Of Warfare During The Nineteenth Century Efforts...
The Power of Warfare The role of warfare played a tremendous role in the nineteenth century
efforts of nation building. Warfare gave rise to an increase of self pride within people, known as
nationalism, which allowed the people within countries to unite and further expand for the greater
good of their country. Warfare was used by countries like Italy, Germany, and Great Britain to
build their nations by attempting to unify there territories and establish their own governments
with force. Warfare was used to unite territories under one power, increase a country s borders,
and to implement fear into other countries to ensure that proper diplomatic processes were met to
prevent invasion. Following the Napoleonic Wars, there was a great amount of diplomatic
instability within Europe, and in the Italian states there was a call to unify every state into one
nation, Italy (text, 717). A leader of the unification movement, Camillo di Cavour (1810 1861)
wanted to prevent chaotic revolutions to unite Italy, rather he wanted to unify the Italian states by
promoting the economic developments of the Italian states (text, 717). Cavour was a prime
minister of the Piedmont Sardinia territory, he was a great leader who pushed for the advancement
and increase of the region s economic and military powers, which he believed would help promote
a unified Italy (text, 717). Cavour s territory had much to gain from a unified Italy including a
larger amount of available labor, and also a
Correctional Nursing Challenges
Challenges of Nursing Practice in a Correctional Setting
In the recent years, the essential challenges faced in correctional nursing have received little to no
attention and continue to spiral out of control. This has dramatically affected a correctional nurse s
ability to provide safe, therapeutic, and efficient patient care, as well as act as an effective patient
advocate within the correctional facility. It is important to identify and analyze these issues faced by
correctional nurses today and develop strategies to ensure effective patient care. These strategies
should preserve the integrity of the Nursing Practice Act and the correctional nurse s role as a patient
advocate in the jail or prison system. While nurses must remain focused ... Show more content on

Researchers determined many barriers in healthcare were largely due to limited visiting times with
healthcare providers and practice strategies that only addressed one problem per visit (Loeb,
Penrod, Hollenbrak, Smith, 2013). This resulted in prisoners who felt hopeless, ashamed, and
embarrassed about their condition and had a negative effect on establishing rapport with healthcare
providers. Many inmates were hesitant to advocate for themselves and believed the healthcare
team would never advocate for them either. The lack of knowledge expressed by inmates in
combination with decreased trust in nurses and doctors are the key characteristics that triggered
poor healthcare decisions. Loeb et al. (2013) suggests the lack of trust between patients in
correctional facilities and the healthcare team is the primary reason inmates delay care in prison,
thus causing increased illnesses and decreased quality care. The authors also explored perceptions
of the public regarding humane care of prisoners and found inconsistent beliefs. Many people agreed
that humane care is the morally correct thing to do while others believed prisoners deserve the
treatment, suffering, and pain they receive in prison. Since the latter view is not consistent with the
core values of
Summary Of Ender s Game
Ender s Game is a science fiction novel written by the author Orson Scott Card in a third person
point of view (author s perspective), which was published on January 15th 1985. Scheduled in
Earth s future, the novel displays an dismayed and fragile human race, after two devastating
conflicts with the buggers or the formics, an intelligent alien species. In anticipation of a third
invasion, the I.F., the international fleet, chose children based on a set of skills they possess at a
young age. The I.F does this by installing monitors when children are born so they can see the
perspectives of the children that are going to be the strongest. The novel s protagonist Andrew

Ender wins, at great cost because it becomes apparent that it was a real battle, as were all the
supposedly simulated previous battles. Ender is also angry that he wiped out an entire species.
Ender was used and he is aware of it as well, as do his teachers. They try to explain to him they
needed a kid with the compassion to understand the enemy, although they needed him to think it
was a game in order to be able to win. Peter takes control of the world while Valentine convinces
Ender to set off with her to colonization mission to populate the worlds left behind by the buggers.
Before he goes Ender is informed that he killed Bonzo as well as the bully back in school. On the
planet Ender finds an area that looks exactly like the mind game and realizes that the buggers had
prepared this, for his coming. He finds a queen egg left behind by the buggers and he finds a place
for the buggers to live again. Ender can think to the queen and realizes that the buggers did not
want to fight the humans and feels sorrow for them. Ender decides to makes his goal/mission to

Who Is Better Than Stand-Up Comedy
We are living in a time where it seems as if we as a people cannot agree on anything. We are living
what appears to be a turbulent time in a nation that is dividing further and further apart. With all the
terrible things going on in the nation we all need an escape from time to time. To me one of the best
escapes form the chaos in the world is laughter. What better way to get that laughter delivered to you,
than stand up comedy? Over the years I have not met many people that do not enjoy going to a
comedy show. The one thing that I have found is that most people either do not know that comedy
shows are going on all around them or; they will not go to a show if the person is not famous. As a
stand up comedian myself I know how hard it can be... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
That is why I cannot understand why it can be like pulling teeth to get people to come out and
support a live local stand up comedy show. Is it really worth it to spend an exorbitant amount of
money on a ticket to go watch a world famous comedian in an arena or a theater? I am not trying
to say that those shows are not fun and that those comedians do not deserve to have us go watch
them, they worked hard to get there. What I am saying is, that going to a comedy club setting is a
much more enjoyable experience. Instead of spending an arm and a leg on a ticket. You can
spend a fraction of the price and probably get friends to come along with you. It is so much better
to sit at a table full of friends instead of in a row in a cramped chair next to strangers. With the
money you saved, you and your friends can go out to eat before, and order more drinks at your
table at the show. There is not much better than getting dressed up and going out and having a fun
night with a group of loved ones. Many people are afraid of going into intimate settings for fear of
being picked on by the comedians on stage. I am here to tell you, that the vast majority of
comedians do not pick on the crowd. It is already hard enough to get a crowd there, why would
they make them not feel comfortable. They do however, interact with the crowd making the show
more inclusive. Something that you would not get at an arena or theater show, unless you buy front
row tickets. The audience just becomes an amorphous mass of nothingness for me, there s no
intimacy Because in terms of my material.... you should have no more than 300 people at a gig
because you need to see the whites of a comedian s
Descriptive Essay On Open Mic Night
We roam around the swamped streets of New York, arms numb from attaching hundreds of
posters onto different buildings. Initially, we had planned to tape them only against the windows
of random grocery stores and other small businesses. It was my best friend, Fionn, however, who
suggested that sticking them on the lamp posts in the park, would also be a great idea. I
obviously complied, wanting to make sure there isn t a single area left untouched. Earlier this
morning, my friend, Mitch, requested a small favor from me. He said that if it isn t a hassle at
all, he d appreciate it if I strolled through the city while spreading the posters he created. They
advertised the open mic night he s hosting, and the time everyone is expected to be present at. He
would have done it himself, but he was preoccupied with the bar making sure it was spotless and
ready for tomorrow. Every month, Mitch hosts an open mic night at the bar. It s the most anticipated
event in our small town often causing the bar to reach its maximum capacity in under an hour. Many
people, including myself, look forward to attending. It s astonishing to witness how the bar instantly
transforms from a place where people get blackout drunk, to a place where anyone can stumble in
and find a safe heaven. On this particular night, locals are given an opportunity to share their passion
with the world. And I ve been fortunate enough to see it all from the emotional teenager reading their
shitty poetry, to the
Miguel Cervantes
Miguel Cervantes

Miguel Cervantes and William Shakespeare, two authors at the pinnacle of the cultural rebirth of
Europe during the 1500s, ironically died on the same date (this fact is a bit confused by the
distinction between the Julian and Gregorian calendar. Indeed they both died on the date of April
23, 1616, but England had not converted to the Gregorian Calendar, so they did not die on the same
day, but they did on the same date, as Spain s Julian calendar correlated Cervantes death to

The only part that survives to this day discusses his enslavement and reveals it as a major influence
on his writing. In addition, the story follows the life of Galatea (for whom the novel is a namesake),
an ideal female (probably modeled after Catalina de Salazar y Palacios). This idea of the ideal
female is a prominent mark of humanist and Renaissance literature, and was probably passed on
to Cervantes by his professor from Complutense, Juan López de Hoyos. The Decameron by the
Italian Boccaccio is best known for presenting the ideal women Fiammetta, who is modeled after
the love of Boccaccio s life. Cervantes was not one of the most successful tax collectors that King
Phillip II had ever seen. In fact, at least one time he had a public debt, and was sent to prison to
rectify this fact. It is during his stays in prison that Cervantes conceives Don Quixote, which was
published in 1605. Don Quixote tells the story of a disillusioned knight who perambulates
throughout the Spanish countryside. Famous episodes of Part I (the novel was actually split
between two installation, with Part II being published in 1615, just a year before Cervantes death)
involves Don Quixote attacking a windmill taking it to be a giant that he is chivalrously bound to
slay. Other chapters see The Knight and his companions storming common town buildings,
mistaking them for castles that they are entitled to enter. Although it
Jerry Koeehler Biography
Jerry Koehler: From St. Louis U. to Cathedral High (1963)
In 1963, Jerry Koehler graduates from St. Louis University with a BS degree. With a major in
history and a minor in education, he has already been hired to teach history at Cathedral High
School in Belleville.
Although he receives scholarship help, first for basketball and later for baseball, the remaining part
of his $800 tuition per semester is paid for by his parents.
Throughout his four years at the university, he lives at home and commutes in a car pool with other
students from Belleville. Although this limits his social life on the campus, the education he receives
is outstanding. In addition to being prepared to teach his subject matter, he receives inspiration from

Every history major has to pass an extensive written exam dealing with the history of the world. In
addition to this, Jerry is required to go into a room with three history professors who, for one half
hour, ask questions on any topics in history. Much of Jerry s apprehension is the circulation of
horror stories about students who were not allowed to graduate because they did not pass these
comprehensive exams. However, Jerry is ecstatic when he comes out after finishing his oral exams.
He has missed only one question over the 30 minute period. Although he cannot remember a single
question that he answers correctly, for the remainder of his life he will always remember the one that
he missed knowing that it was in his mind a trick question. He is asked, Who had the greatest
influence on thought during the Middle Ages, Saint Augustine or Saint Thomas Aquinas? These are
arguably the two most important theologians in all of Christian history and Jerry chooses the wrong
one, that is, Aquinas. And why did Augustine have the greater influence? Because he came at the
beginning of medieval history while Aquinas came toward the end of the
Essay about Kyoto Protocol
After ten days of tough negotiations, ministers and other high level officials from 160 countries
reached an agreement this morning on a legally binding Protocol under which industrialized
countries will reduce their collective emissions of greenhouse gases by 5.2%. The agreement aims
to lower overall emissions from a group of six greenhouse gases by 2008 12, calculated as an
average over these five years. (UNFCCC, 2011)

In December of 1997, 160 countries gathered in Kyoto, Japan to agree upon a Protocol that will
curb emissions and hopefully restore emission levels to pre industrial numbers. This Protocol is the
Kyoto Protocol established by the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Control. It is
widely believed that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The atmospheres absorption of this energy helps keep our average global temperature at an ideal
level for life. Notably important is the temperature of our oceans. Our oceans are compared to a
sink for carbon dioxide, in that they hold much of the carbon dioxide that would otherwise be in
the atmosphere (Wikipedia, 2011). As the temperature of the oceans rise, they absorb less and less
carbon dioxide. Thus increasing the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere and increasing the
global mean temperature, creating a snowball like effect, that would be nearly impossible to
reverse. To prevent this catastrophe the Kyoto Protocol was established as a global legally binding
agreement (Wikipedia, 2011). The objective of this agreement was to provide financing for
developing countries. The financial aid would go towards new technologies to help these countries
develop in a more sustainable manner. The Protocol also hoped to install mechanisms that report,
verify, and review the carbon emissions of each country. Lastly, the countries that helped create the
Kyoto Protocol wanted it to be a legally binding agreement that had consequences for countries who
failed to meet their emission target. The Kyoto Protocol was established as a part of the United

Piggy s Death In Lord Of The Flies Essay
Simon s death is resulted by the beating of him by the boys of the island. He was mistaken to be
a beast when he was walking out of the forest during the night. When he tries to explain to the
boys that he is Simon and not the beast, he trips and falls over to the beach rocks. The beast is not
real, but is assumed to be real by the boys of the island. The reason for this is because Jack makes
the beast seem as a godlike figure, he uses this to rule and manipulate the members of the hunting
tribe, and is found as a threat to the other boys, which makes them fearful. Due to their belief in the
beast, it creates paranoia and fear in them that the beast is always watching, and is always there.
Therefore, when a shadowy figure creeps out of the forest during the night, their paranoia of the
beast that Jack has formed for them has affected them and had no other intention other than kill the
beast. So technically, Jack played a huge role in the killing of Simon. After the death of Simon, he
simply ignored the fact that he murdered another boy on the island, and continues to convince the
boys that they had not killed Simon last night and that they killed the beast instead. However, then
he perpetuates the myth of the beast on the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
