Analysis of Robert Frost s Desert Places Essay
Analysis of Robert Frost s Desert Places

Robert Frost s Desert Places is a testament to the harrowing nature of solidarity. By subjecting the
narrator to the final moments of daylight on a snowy evening, an understanding about the nature of
blank spaces and emptiness becomes guratively illuminated. The poem s loneliness has the ability to
transcend nature and drill a hole through the mind of the narrator so that all hope for relationships
with man and nature are abandoned.

In the first stanza, ?snow? and ?night? are juxtaposed to create a sense of loneliness and emptiness.
Meaning is derived from the effects they have on their surroundings and on the narrator. Here, snow
has the qualities of an arid and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The dramatic realization of the absence of objects during the brief moments of sunset on a snowy
evening comes fast under the scrutiny of the narrator, and profound implications for him/her about
the desolate nature of his/her own loneliness and place in the world, as the passage of time puts his
/her place into perspective. The time and speed at which the surroundings becomes enveloped
becomes instrumental to the desolation resented throughout the poem. Had the evening been
observed earlier in the day, the finality of the blankness would have been cancelled out by more
vivid visualizations about the shape of the leaves, colors illuminated in the light, and numbers of
specific animals scurrying about in the open field. However, the simplistic nature of the language
presents no comfort or description by its dry context. The narrator speaks of ?empty spaces? (13)
paralleled with the dry nature of the language to create the loneliness of the poem. Alone with his/her
thoughts, the narrator focuses on how the nothingness affects his/her view of the world. Nature is
represented as the creative force that breeds the nothingness. The poem indicates, ?The woods
around it have it?it is theirs./ All animals are smothered in their lairs? (5
6). The emptiness belongs to nature, because nature itself is its creator. Again, no particular animal is
The Negative Effects Of Globalization
After reading the history of this person, I experienced different feelings in the first pride that in
this world there are still such people, secondly the sadness that I as a person still failed to do
something extraordinary for this world. From what I have read, I have noticed, to a large extent, the
positive aspects of globalization. Even Samir himself speaks about this that they greatly influenced
him Globalization has had a very strong effect on me. It has allowed me to live with my friends and
extended families that live in very different cultures and settings.
He also talks about the moments that globalization gave him, Globalization has also allowed me to
be exposed to several languages. I am fluent in English, Spanish, and ... Show more content on

Although I am now living in another country, the only thing that could affect me is the moment with
fast food and coffee, about which we could read, but nevertheless the knowledge of the language at a
different level and communication with people helped me to uncover a number of factors, How
much the world is different. In the sense that globalization can influence us in terms of thinking,
because we thought at home differently than when we are in another country, and we have to think
and act differently.
We could read above how the globalization of the pop industry influences the world, the young
generation s world that movies and TV shows dictate to the world how we live and dress. The
world of music I want to talk about it and about how music affects globalization. After all, every
nation and people has and has the roots of musical style and sound (its folk music) but the
tendencies of the new world are changing everything and the US is one of the biggest industries
that influence it. We remember how the first emo, Goths and other fans of these themes appeared.
And the fact that music affects us on our feelings, because under every mood we listen to different
music. When sad we listen to the sad and etc. Everyone has his own idol which we end up trying to
please. As a result, the younger generation forgets the style and sound that was inherent in its people.
I also want to touch on the theme of books that foreign books have become

The Qualities Of A Successful Investor
Warren E. Buffett offers the following advice on the qualities of a successful investor. Buffett
essentially suggests that a successful investor does not need an extraordinarily high IQ, exceptional
business acumen, or inside information. To enjoy a lifetime of successful investing, you need a solid
decision making framework and the ability to maintain your emotions. A successful investment
strategy requires a thoughtful plan. Developing a plan is not difficult, but staying with it during
times of uncertainty and events that seem to counter you plan s strategy is often difficult. This
tutorial discusses the necessity of establishing a trading plan, what investment options best suit your
needs, and the challenges you could encounter if you don t have a plan. The benefits of developing a
trading plan You can establish optimal circumstances for experiencing solid investment growth if
you stick to your plan despite opposing popular opinion, current trends, or analysts forecasts.
Develop your investment plan and focus on your long term goals and objectives. Maintain focus on
your plan All financial markets can be erratic. It has experienced significant fluctuations in business

The 1990s experienced a surge of growth due to the bull market pushing the Dow Jones industrial
average (DIJA) up 300 percent. This economic growth was accompanied by low interest rates and
Cork Hill Prison
As you well know Sara had family in Davenport. Her first cousins already lived there. From an
article about Sara s family, her relative was a laborer of some kind. According to Root s Web, John
was also a laborer. John and Sara could have stayed in New York when they came to America and
found work there, but Sara s relative could have offered or been able to help John get a job. Sara
held a job of a wash woman while living in Davenport and at age 16 Michael worked in a saw mill.
The other children also held various jobs. Ellen who was going by Nellie during this time worked as
a coater and a candy maker. Edward would later in life work at the Rock Island arsenal which when
John and Sara first moved to Davenport was a prison for confederate soldiers. The American Civil
wartook place between 1861 1865. It was the costliest war on ever fought on American soil. John
and Sara immigrated to America at the very end of the civil war or just after, if they came in 1866.
This would mean they would have faced the 4th and final horsemen, War. As I previously stated the

The Giblin s first house fell within this region. Their second house was farther away, but still
close by. Cork Hill was where all the Irish immigrants who came to Davenport lived. Since most
Irish people are Catholic it is no surprise that a church is in this area. St. Marguerite s was where
John and Sara baptized all of their children who were born in Davenport. The church may have been
another reason why they came to Davenport. Even though the church, now cathedral is called Sacred

over the years. Now the majority of the parishioners are Vietnamese. As time passes things change,

History of Ict
History of Information Communication Technology (ICT) in the Philippines

The Philippines connected to the internet in 1994 via the Philippine Internet Foundation (PHNet),
the first internet service provider in the country. Penetration increased slowly until 2005, when
Executive Order 109 was enacted calling for the expansion of telecommunication services to
underserved areas, which in turn promoted competition in the information and communications
technology (ICT) sector. Internet use further accelerated after 2008 with the entry of a number of
industry players, although the use of mobile phones has remained more widespread. Penetration of
such technologies is higher in urban areas where middle to upper income classes are concentrated. ...

Many local ISPs go through the PLDT because it owns the 10,000 kilometer Domestic Fiber Optic
Network (DFON) connected to several international cable routes and has the highest capacity in the
country at 250 Gbps. PLDT also owns or manages several international cable landings in the country.
Further, the country s telecommunications industry in the last decade has been characterized by
mergers and acquisitions amid the country s market liberalization initiatives during the 1980s and
the absence of anti trust laws. By the end of 2010, three privately owned telecom companies were
dominant: PLDT/Smart, Globe Telecommunications, Inc., and Digitel. With PLDT s

recent acquisition of majority shares in Digitel, the company now controls 70 percent of the country
s ICT sector.
To enter the ICT industry in the Philippines, companies must go through a two stage process. First,
they must obtain a congressional license that involves parliamentary hearings and the approval of
both the upper and lower houses. Second, they need to apply for a Certificate of Public
Convenience and Necessity (CPCN) from the NTC. The constitution limits foreign entities to only
40 percent ownership of a business to be established in the country. Internet service is currently
classified as a value added service and is therefore subject to fewer regulatory requirements
compared to mobile and fixed phone services.
The Devil And Tom Walker Quotes
The Devil and Tom Walker Tom Walker lived in Puritan, New England, a place that is very
religious and criticizes wrong doings. Tom Walker worked for the devil, which in Puritan, New
England is against their religion. If the people in the town found out that Tom worked for the devil
they would have him killed or sent away. Because of these reasons and because the people of the
town are quick to judge, Tom worked very secluded. So, in The Devil and Tom Walker, Washington
Irvinguses detail to portray that Tom is not who others make him out to be, reveal that Tom is
gullible, and to convey that Tom worked for the Devil. In the story The Devil and Tom Walker ,
Tom Walker is secluded from others in his town. The quote in the book, They lived in a forlorn
looking house that stood alone and had an air of starvation shows that Tom Walker was a man who
most likely did wrong and did not want to get criticized for his actions. The town they lived in was
a very religious town that had strict rules and they would have nothing to do with the... Show more

point with devil which makes them feel trapped in a corner and they feel like they cannot get out
of the hands of the devil. Tom let the devil get a hold on him and then Tom said, The Devil take

show up here and there. In the long run, he is going to have a hold on people and before they
realize it they are his people and he will have them doing works for him instead of the
Smoke Signals Sparknotes
Smoke Signals is about two Native American friends, Thomas Builds A Fire and Victor Joseph,
from the Coeur D Alene Indian Reservation in Plummer, Idaho who go on a journey to Phoenix,
Arizona to retrieve Arnold Joseph s ashes (Victor s dad). Arnold was an alcoholic who left Victor
and his mother as a child, but saved Thomas as a child. Victor and Thomas were raised on the
reservation, yet they grew into two different personalities. The first part of the movie shows an
authentic portrayal of life on the reservation through Victor and Thomas. The second part of the
movie shows the journey taken by Victor and Thomas and their arrival to Phoenix, AZ. The last
part of the movie shows Victor and Thomas journey back to Idaho. Throughout the whole movie,
life on the reservation is shown through various stories and flashbacks. The portrayal of life on the
reservation is not romanticized, nor is it criticized; life on the reservation is shown truthfully. There
were problems then and there still are problems now with alcoholism, broken families, and a sense
of abandonment. Alcoholism in communities, like the one portrayed in the film, causes a large
ripple through everyone, their family and their tribe. It broke Victor and Thomas families, as Victor
s dad ran away due to actions he committed under intoxication and Thomas parents died in an
accident that involved alcohol. Victor s dad vanishing brought upon him a sense of abandonment that
affected his overall outlook on life at a
Epilepsy Drug Therapies
Introduction:
This paper will focus on the history of epilepsy, the causes of the disease specifically its genetic link
and the evolution of drug therapies. My interest in this topic stems from working with people with
developmental disabilities in a group home setting, many of whom suffer from seizure disorders. I
understand that the disease carries a stigma and many people still hide that they have the condition
which why it s important to educate people about it.
According to Lewis, Dirksen, Heitkemper and Bucher, in the United States, it is estimated that more
than 3 million people have active epilepsy, with 200,000 new cases diagnosed each year (2014, p.
1419). This is why it is an important disease to understand. According to Lewis et ... Show more

This period was not without supernatural beliefs, so Epilepsy existed between these two worlds.
However, researchers proved that theories of the effect of Epilepsy on brain function were more
than just superstitious beliefs. Several different types of seizures were seen in this period.
English Neurologist John Hughlings Jackson best known for his research in Epilepsy, discovered
a correlation of these focal motor seizure onsets and their associated brain lesions in laying the
foundation of modern epileptology. (392). in 1772, Swiss Neurologist Samuel August Tissot
gave the first detailed definition of absence seizures which were mainly seen in children. Patients
with chronic epilepsy were taken to clinics or asylums for observation which brought awareness
to the variety of seizures and by the second half of the 19th century, there were a number of
dedicated facilities built to care for people with Epilepsy. In these facilities, terms such as absence,
petit mal and grand mal were introduced which are still used to date. (392). It was also in this time
period that the first treatment, bromide, was discovered by Charles Locock in the late

terms of factor affecting the pet trade they predict that since the human population is growing, then
the demand for pets will increase. The rarity of the species dictates how desirable a pet is. When
they talk about pet sources they mention the exotic pets taken directly from the wild, or born in

Why Is It Better To Live In Medieval Times
Today i will be talking about if it s better to live in the modern or medieval times i think i would
like to live in the medieval because of the less stress The laws are not the best back then but there
was a lot of torture and pain even tho there was not as much stress and i wouldn t like the fact of
its not that clean or easy back then some people would fight what i said but they would not find
the best things today it would still be hard in this time and it could just be like back then just with
different stuff and ways i m not saying i don t like it now i m just saying it could be easier back
