Critically Analyzing Sources for Research
During college, students should be able to research and analyze their sources. It is an important life
skill. By using the ability to research, they can find articles with credible, reliable, and relevant
information to get the best and dependable research. People who use these techniques will find each
of these components essential to the authenticity of an article. These skills would be able to help
students and researchers discover trustworthy and reliable sources. Each of the different components
in a quality researchmakes it solid and dependable. Credibility is how believable or truthful the
research, and whether the researchers have the credentials to do research in that area. Reliability is
the reputation of the article s source, and if the authors considered any biases. Relevancy is how
current the article is or how important it is now. Students conducting research in college need to be
able to critically analyze sources for credibility, relevancy, and reliability in order to determine their
usefulness in a research paper.
The first step in finding a credible article is looking for credentials and qualifications of the authors.
Each of the three authors of this article has the credentials and qualifications to write about this
subject. The three researchers of this article are Zhengchuan Xu, Qing Hu, and Chenghong Zhang.
Zhengchuan Xu has a Ph. D in computer software and theory. He is also an associate professor in the

The Ganges River Of India
The Ganges River in India is an important river system that provides water for personal use,
industry, and agriculture for well over half a million people. This river also serves a major role in
the region s cultural and religious practices. It is widely believed that this body of water is the
Earthly manifestation of the Hindugoddess Ganga. For thousands of years, people have believed
that Ganga can wash away a lifetime of sins and, therefore, no amount of pollution can harm her
(Conway). As a result of this belief, industrial, agricultural, and human waste are dumped into the
river on a daily basis.
Hindus also believe that bathing themselves in the water of the river will wash away all of their
sins and grant spiritual rewards such as deliverance from sin and attainment of nirvana (Das). Hindus
believe that to die on the banks of the Ganges is an assurance of heavenly bliss and will grant
emancipation from the eternal cycle of birth and death (Das). Due to this belief, millions of
people use the banks of the river for cremation and burial (BBC). Aside from religious ceremonies,
poor people who cannot afford to be cremated are wrapped in white muslin and placed in the river
(BBC). Following ceremonies, the ashes and dead bodies are dumped into the river. These religious
practices are believed to be a primary cause of the degraded water quality of the Ganges River near
Varanasi. If the quality of water continues to become even more degraded, a crucial part of the
Carbon Emissions From Motor Vehicles For The Future
REPORT ON LOWER CARBON EMISSIONS FROM MOTOR VEHICLES FOR THE FUTURE

KARTIKEYA UPRETI
Department of Aeronautical and Automotive Engineering

ABSTRACT

The ever increasing carbon emissions from the automobiles all around the world has forced the
incorporation of novel , more sustainable means of non conventional fuels for the automobiles like
the hybrid cars , solar vehicles , the use of gasohol and alcohol based fuels is also considered as
an alternative for the conventional fuels and also the development of solar electric hybrid vehicle.
There are a lot of possibilities and feasible solutions for lowering the carbon emissions from vehicles.

The trap oxidizer development in Greece is one of many scientific research done to reduce vehicle
emissions. The carbon dioxide capture using nanostructured membranes is also another way to check
the vehicle emissions. In this method single gas separation experiments were carried out using silica
modified membranes to study the behavior of individual gas permeation at different pressures and
temperatures.

1. Working of nanostructures membranes in capturing CO2 emission.

Design and fabrication of porous membranes comprises of many layers of different materials
namely: Aluminium Oxide (Al2O3), Titanium Oxide (TiO2), Zirconium Oxide (ZrO2), Silicon
Dioxide (SiO2), Silicon Carbide, Zeolite, or a mixture of two materials applied on an underlying
porous stainless steel. The manner in which gas molecules flow is generally influenced by three
factors: The gas properties, morphology of the membrane and the material used for membrane
design. The technology is environment friendly, quite economical and efficient. It is applicable to
all forms of CO2 removal from other gases. Nanotechnology is being greatly used in this method of
carbon capture. Since 2003 vehicles have been built with on board communications network protocol
called CAN (Controlled Area Network).CANbus is basically a bridge between the different modules
and how they communicate with each other via the serial data
The Failure Of The American Dream By F. Scott Fitzgerald
The American Dream; a reality chased by Americans for centuries, based on the ideas of liberty,
happiness and equal right to success for all. But, for F. Scott Fitzgerald the American Dream was a
materialistic world of permanent riches and fortune. This distorted perception of the American
Dream, shared by many others, resulted in the failure of the real American Dream, a reality where
one can live comfortably and safely. Instead, the American Dream became this unattainable goal that
can never result in satisfaction, as humans will always have that desire for more. F. Scott Fitzgerald
clearly represents the failed American Dream, as he proved throughout his life of short periods
of glamor which concluded in heartbreak, that the American Dream is nothing but an endless
pursuit of an unattainable goal. F. Scott Fitzgerald s early life was the story of a young ambitious
boy s rise to fame and disappointment. Even when he was a child, Fitzgerald was chasing the
American Dream as he wanted to become a rich and famous writer admired by the whole world
(QUOTE). Fitzgerald was already craving the materialistic aspect of success. As a student, he used
his writing skills to impress his peers and make friends. He experienced his first glimpse of success
as he became a member of the most exclusive dining clubs, began writing for the campus magazines
at Princeton, and wrote a musical comedy in which he cast himself as the main character. The
attention was on him throughout most of
How To Read Literature Like A Professor By Thomas C. Foster
The Flood Stories In Thomas C. Foster s book, How to Read Literature Like a Professor, Foster
discusses that in every piece of literature, there is no originality. Each literary work is connected in
one way or another to a different literary work, making one story . Having striking similarities, but
being written 2000 years apart, the floodstories of Utnapishtim in The Epic of Gilgameshand Noah in
the Bible back up what Foster says. Gilgamesh in an old epic about a man named Gilgamesh and
his quest for immortality, while Noah is a not quite so old story of when Godflooded the earth. Each
story is unique in its own way with having slight differences, perhaps caused by the extensive time
period between each, but the similarities are... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ea told Utnapishtim to build a boat, Of seven stories each with nine chambers (Gilgamesh 10).
The boat was also to be cube shaped and able to hold food, wine, minerals, his family, and the seed
of living animals (Gilgamesh 10). Similarly, God instructed Noah to build an ark of cypress with
rooms. It has to be three hundred cubits long, fifty cubits wide and thirty cubits high (Genesis
6:15). The ark also contained upper, middle, and lower decks, and a door on the side. Both had
been told how the boat should be built by a divine figure, but God s instructions to Noah were
different than those given to Utnapishtim. After the flood waters had ceased, both Utnapishtim
and Noah sent out a series of bird to check if it was safe to come out of their large boats and then
were rewarded for their obedience. Utnapishtim sent out a dove, swallow and raven, with whom
each found land, and Noah sent out a raven and a dove, which was sent out twice. When both men
exited their ships, their God/gods rewarded them greatly, but with different things. Enlil, the war
god blessed Utnapishtim and his family by saying, You and your wife shall be like gods. You
shall live in the distance at the river s mouth, at the source (Gilgamesh 10). For Noah, God
promised him, Everything that lives and moves about will be food for you. Just as I gave you the
green plants, I now give you everything
Appendicitis is one of the most common surgical diagnosis...
Appendicitis is one of the most common surgical diagnosis in the emergency department. Recent
literature has supported the safety of nonoperative management of uncomplicated appendicitis. The
APPAC trial was recently started in Finland to provide level 1 evidence to the hypothesis that at least
75% of patients with uncomplicated appendicitiscan be managed effectively with antibiotics. Another
study by Abes M et al has demonstrated 93.7% success rate in the non operative management of
pediatric patients with uncomplicated appendicitis by limiting non operative management to patients
with hemodynamic stability, a short history of less than 24 hours, without the signs of peritoneal
irritation, necrosis or appendicolith. There is low... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Treatment failure was defined as subsequent readmission for any form of appendicitis, drainage of
appendiceal abscess or appendectomy within 30 days of index admission. Recurrence was defined
as a subsequent admission for any form of appendicitis, drainage of abscess or appendectomy at any
time after 30 days from discharge. Among these two categories, patients were classified as perforated
and non perforated. Treatment cost, length of stay and in hospital/30 day mortality rates were
assessed as secondary outcomes.
Objective of this study was to assess the rates of treatment failure, recurrence, post discharge
perforation, mortality, total cost and length of stay in the non operative management of
uncomplicated appendicitis. Retrospective analysis was conducted using the data from the
California office of state wide health planning and development. Patient discharge data was
included from 1995 to 2010. Only patients with ICD 9 diagnosis code of 540.9 were included.
Admissions in the year 2009 and 2010 were not included to allow at least two years of follow up.
Charleson index was calculated to assess patient s comorbidities. A total of 2,31,678 patients with
acute uncomplicated appendicitis were identified. 98.5% were managed with appendectomy. Only
3370 patients were managed nonoperatively and were included in the study for analysis. There was
significant difference in the characteristics between non operative and surgical cohorts. Non
operative patients were older and
Essay about The 59th Unnamed Cave in Florida
The last article talks about the 59th Unnamed Cave, in Florida. This cave is located in the eastern
part of the Florida Panhandle. From the dates of the artifacts and the dates of the glyph, the site
was occupied in the Late Woodland period. The cave was discover in 2007 when a group of cave
explorer saw fine engravings on the wall. This site was the first cave art site that was found in
Florida and it is the second rock art site that was found in the states. Rock art is very rare in
Florida, but now with the site found there is a wider perspective on the importance of rock art. The
site did not only include the petroglyph drawing of the past, but it included some artifacts that was
use to help date the time that the cave was occupied.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of the way that we can tell is by looking at the weathering of the image. If the edge of the
image is nice and sharp then the engraving is new. If the edges of the engraving is nice and
rounded we can safely say that the engraving have been there for a while. The main point of this
article is to talk about the findings of the 59th Unnamed Cave in Florida. This cave is interesting
because there are very few sites in Florida. This was only one out of the two sites that had rock art
in them that is in the state of Florida. I really like this article because instead of just talking about
what they see in the petroglyph, the authors actually highlighted the engravings so that it is easier
for the readers to see what they are talking about. The other articles I have read only talked about
the engraving but they did not really highlighted the engraving which makes it very hard for the
reader to see what they were talking about. Another good point of this article is that they showed a
comparison between the older cave engraving versus the new engraving. By adding this information
it help the reader understand the difference between the two time frame that the engraving was
marked. One of the things that I wished this article would have is the radio carbon dating section.
The other articles I read about all have some type of radio carbon dating to try to date when the site
were occupied. This article only talked about the ceramic sherds that they
Theme Of Pride And Prejudice
It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single good opening line in possession of clever
phrases, can grip the readers right from the very beginning. This truth is so well fixed in the minds
of the authors that they deliberately chose it to set the tone for the narrative to unfold and bring out
the concerns of the novel. In the light of this authorial truth this essay is focused towards discussing
how the opening line of Pride and Prejudicein itself contains the major themes and conflicts of the
novel, and how the irony of this statement works on more than one level setting it apart as one of the
most memorable lines of literature. Another point that is highlighted in this essay is the
characteristic ironical tone of the omniscient... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is what Robert Markley argues by writing thus: As much as modern readers delight in the
social world of Pride and Prejudice, the characters themselves view the world through the prisms of
money, inheritance law, and the values and obligations imposed on gentlemen and gentlewomen by
their estates (80). He further talks about the estates as subordinating the ideas of individual will to a
logic of obligation that the inheritors have towards the hard work of previous generations, and writes
that It is not only that Darcy has inherited Pemberley but that Pemberley has inherited him (85).
Thus we see how unpacking the different phrases of the opening sentence itself gives us the two of
the majour themes of marriage and money in the
A Delicate Life in The Scarlet Iblis by James Hurst and...
Each life is fragile in its own way. If something is rushed into a new kind of living their not ready
for, their life could get destroyed. If it gets destroyed then that is a loss of something that could
have had a beautiful life. Although a short story The Scarlet Ibis by James Hurst and a poem
Woman With Flower by Naomi Long Margaret, they both share a common message that life should
not be driven, life is delicate and precious. A life should be something that develops on its own at its
own pace.
In the Scarlet Ibis, the narrator tries to make his special brother normal, all because he was
ashamed of his little brother, Doodle. In the story, the narrator did not help his brother for his
brothers sake, but for his own selfish ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Much growth is stunted by too careful prodding, (line 7) give it a break, and a chance to grow or it
will die.
Living up to one s expectations can be difficult. As show in this short story and poem if something
cannot exceed to someones wishes that person might try to succeed them on there own, like the
over watering and the rush to learn to be normal . In both of these stories there was a fail to
succeed someone else s wishes. So someone else tried exceeding it for themself, and ended up
killing the one they loved. The things we love we have to learn to leave alone, (Woman With
Flower, line 9) The poem and short story both had this lesson in them, where the narrators could
not leave something alone because they wanted it to grow up quicker, which ended in death for
both the short story and poem. Nothing is perfect, not even the narrators for The Scarlet Ibis, and
Woman With Flower. In both of these stories there are examples of a life being rushed into
something they did not want, but for the person rushing their lives needs and own selfish reasons.
Particularly, in The Scarlet Ibis, the narrator wanted to urge his little brother into becoming like all
of the kids his age, but his brother had a disability and this made it very difficult for him. In
Woman With Flower, a woman rushed the life right out of her plant by over watering it, and giving
it to much care. Both of these stories are great examples of

WASTE GENERATION IN IBADAN
Solid waste
Although it is generally agreed that enormous quantities of solid waste are generated in Ibadan
daily, the exact figures have not been determined, probably owing to the use of diverse methods
of calculation. Maclaren International Ltd (1970) found that the average per capita quantity of
solid waste generated was 0.37 0.5 kg/day for the traditional areas of the city and 0.53 kg/day for
the newer areas. According to Egunjobi (1986), 38 million kg of solid waste was collected in the
suburbs of Ibadan in 1986. The suburbs constitute about 21% of the city. On this basis, it can be
estimated that 181 million kg of solid waste was generated in the city as a whole in 1986. This
gives a per capita waste generation rate of 0.31 kg/day, using the 1986 estimated population of 1.6
million for the city.
In 1982, PAI Associates recorded the volume and weight of solid waste generated
Characteristics Of My Personality
My personality has been strengthened and developed through my various characteristics,
hobbies, and interests. Others believe that i am just a lazy weirdo who loves jokes. However, I
have goals and dreams to bring to fruition. Please allow me to expand on these points. Some of
my characteristics shape the way people view me. An example of this is how happy I am all the
time. It has gotten to the point where if I am not smiling my friends think something is wrong. I
feel that I am always happy due to the fact that I like to have a positive outlook on life. If
something bad happens I just try my best to roll with it and improve from there. Basically, I try
not to cry over spilt milk; I see no point in it. I feel that it will make people feel free to be
themselves around me. I find it important that people are comfortable around me. This is due in
part to the fact that when people are more comfortable, they tend to be happier. I enjoy making
people laugh and helping them enjoy the moment wherever we are. The main trait of my
personality is how much I like to have fun. I like to think it makes people view me as easy going.
Whenever i find another personwho is energetic and friendly, it is great because i need someone
fun to stay interested and engaged. My short attention span is my biggest downfall. It causes me to
drift when anyone is talking. It once was so bad that I was talking and got side tracked as I was
talking. The fact that my attention span is so short sometimes

Part One Analytical Question
3. Did the Enlightenment and The French Revolution bring about change in terms of gender?
In terms of gender, both The Enlightenment and The French Revolution brought monumental
changes for women. The Enlightenment was also referred to as the age of reason, and it was an
intellectual phenomenon that began around the 1730s. The key players of the Enlightenment were
the men of letters or what they called themselves, les philosophes . For most the Enlightenment was
about different attitudes towards knowledge and power, and a focus on the critique of authorities.
This is where women were first affected. The men of letters wanted women to be educated as well as
men. This was a first, because during this time women were second to men only responsible for
housework and motherly duties. The Enlightenment started to change all that. The education the
Enlightenment brought to women also opened up new doors for women, and they held important
roles in the Enlightenment. Women involved in the Enlightenment ran the Salons that the men
discussed their ideas and plans in. Some women, like Mary Wollstonecraft, became writers and
women s advocates. The Enlightenment opened up doors for women to ... Show more content on
