Whose Reality Essay
The weak are forced to create alternative realities

The brain is a crucible: a melting pot of intersecting ingredients that forges a reality that is
deceptively the same, but often vastly different for each individual. That reality is a construct is a
fashionable term these days; it means that we tend to see reality from a particular frame of
reference. There is always a context, whether it be political, social or cultural. For those who are
unable to construct a satisfactory reality, it is then that they are forced to create an alternative reality,
perhaps that fulfils their dreams and meets their views and values.

In the words of cognitive neuropsychologist Kaspar Meyer, what is now clear is that the brain is not

Willy s alternative reality provides him with the motivation to continue his life, despite the loss of
his job and loss of respect from Biff. Alternative realities provide temporary relief from the harsh
truth of reality, which is sometimes necessary for those who are considered mentally weak.

It is often easier to support the alternative realities created by the mentally weak. Due to their
mental state, disregarding what they believe to be true can carry several consequences. In Death of
a Salesman , Willy s wife Linda remains supportive throughout her husband s delusion. He claims
she is his foundation (and) support , which is simply conforming to the expected role of a 1950 s
housewife. Another example includes the 2010 movie directed by Martin Scrosese titled Shutter
Island , which clearly highlights the importance of accepting the alternative realities created by the
mentally weak. The film s protagonist Teddy Daniels believes himself to be a U.S marshal assigned
to investigate the disappearance of a patient from Boston s Shutter Island mental institution.
However, in true fact, Teddy is actually Andrew Laeddis, one of the institution s most dangerous

patients they have because of his delusions and his violence towards the staff and the other patients.
Andrew (or Teddy s) delusion created an alternative reality in which he was able to escape the truth

Should Children Be Tried as Adults
CJUS 230. Professor Jennifer DeBoer| Juvenile Justice | Should Children be Tried as Adults?|

Juvenile Justice: Should children be tried as adults? Are youth capable of fully understanding the
consequences that their actions may cause or are they mentally incapable of processing that
information? Juveniles commit crimes just like adults. Sometimes the crimes they commit are
heinous, but does that mean they are no longer a child? I believe there may be special cases when
a youth should be tried as an adult, but in most cases, they need to be processed through the juvenile
justice system. In the last part of the 18th century, children under the age of seven were regarded as
being incapable of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In 1980, congress added an amendment that required juveniles be removed from adult facilities. The
1980 s and 1990 s have had some significant changes in the treatment of juvenile offenders. States
have added to their purpose clauses of juvenile code phrases such as Hold juveniles accountable for
criminal behavior , Provide effective deterrents , and Impose punishment consistent with the
seriousness of the crime . When a child commits a violent crime, are they automatically considered
an adult? Or is the child incapable of fully understanding their actions? Studies suggest that the
prefrontal lobe of the brain, which many scientists believe plays a crucial role in inhibiting
inappropriate behavior, may not be fully developed until the age of twenty. Many experts also
believe that children do not possess the moral or intellectual capacity to fully understand the
consequences for their actions. They argue that youth lack the capacity to be defendants at an adult
trial. Many experts contend that rehabilitation in a juvenile detention center is more beneficial for
the youth and for society compared to releasing someone who has spent their childhood and young
adult life in the prison system. A youth coming out of the juvenile rehabilitation system is less likely
to commit a crime than someone coming out of the adult prison system.
A Deeper Look Into The Lives Of Slum Dwellers
A Deeper look into the lives of Slum dwellers
Gitashu Jain
Methodology:
On visiting various underdeveloped sections of our world class capital city, I got the chance to
have a closer look into the lives of the unwarranted and at times acting as an invisible force the
slum dwellers. Having migrated from various developing regions of India, one can see the
promises of young bright India being obliterated into dark gloomy pieces because of communal
politics and corruption. It gave me deeper insights into the colossal failing of the central, state and
municipal machinery. They have failed in proper execution of laws for the most vulnerable and
downtrodden constituents of the society. On spending time in these un administered, poverty
stricken areas of Sanjay Camp, Janta Camp, Shakoorpur basti and GB road district, where we with
the help of the Pradhan (Headman of these slums), I got a chance to interact with these people
which gave me a realistic insight to their sufferings and problems, starting from commodification of
their labour to stigmatized work they are forced to perform due their caste and social class. We
conducted detailed interviews of inhabitants of every age, keeping the main focus on pregnant and
lactating women (and their children below the age of 6 years), who clearly are the most vulnerable
to maltreatment due to frustration of the men in failing to provide enough for them poor execution
of policies formulated by the government, ironically, for the
John Hermans Follow-Up Inquiry Paper
I would like to respond to the follow up inquiry on behalf of Congressman Kennedy s constituent
John Hermans, received 27 June 2016, which is based on the original inquiry by Holly Hermans,
dated 16 May 2016 with regards to her son Private John Hermans, who is assigned to Tango
Company, 266th Quartermaster Battalion, 23rd Quartermaster Brigade at Fort Lee, Virginia. I will
address your follow up inquiry by separating it into three focus areas, which I have command and
control of two. The three areas are alleged falsification of Army Physical Fitness Test (APFT) data
and mismanagement of physical profiles, alleged bullying and mistreatment by Tango Company

Finally on 26 August 2015, PVT Hermans received a long term profile for 60 days where the
expected date of fully mission capable was 24 November 2015. The profile restricted PVT
Hermans to lift no more than 30 pounds and run at own/pace and distance not to exceed 15
minutes continuously as well as no Unit Formation Runs. Over the period, he went to sick call
several more times where the PA recommends he Continue His Profile. In regards to the response,
lifting a 22 pound MRE box did not violate his profile. After PVT Hermans surgery on 9

duty by Heather K. Pardue, PA C from the Naval Medical Center in Portsmouth, VA. He was then
seen at Kenner Army Health Clinic on 15 January 2016 and received a profile stating he would
rehab for 2.5 months. It also stated He is to continue upper and lower body cardiac conditioning at

Work and Life Balance
How To Find That Elusive Balance Between Work and Life
Balance is beautiful. Miyoko Ohno, Japanese bridge designer
Article by Leo Babauta
I have a close friend named Norm who is a great photographer and a great person in general ...
recently he was telling me that all he does is work.
That might sound familiar to some of you I ve certainly been there at different points in my life,
although these days I have to say that I ve found a pretty good balance between all the important
things in my life, including work, family, and other things I m interested in.
Norm asked me to write a post about work life balance, because although I think Norm is pretty
happy with his life, he s interested in expanding his life beyond work. I think ... Show more content

Finding That Balance
Once you ve created space in your life for the things you love, it s just a matter of finding the right
balance between them. You could have a life filled with all the things you love doing, but it could
still be almost all work. While there s certainly nothing wrong with that if you love your work and it
doesn t have negative consequences (on your health or family relationships, for example), for many
people it s better to have other things balancing out their lives.
Why is a balance between several things that you love better than just one thing that you love? Well,
there are a number of reasons that would depend on your situation. For one thing, if you have an
office job you might not be getting outdoors enough, or getting enough exercise, and your health
might suffer. Another reason is that you might have family and/or friends and if you work all the
time you re neglecting them and those relationships will suffer. You might also get lonely if you
work all the time. Another major problem is burnout working all the time (or doing any activity all
the time) can lead to stress and fatigue, and could make that activity less enjoyable.
Variety is a good thing it keeps life interesting. So mix things up a bit. Here are some ideas for
doing that: * Schedule time blocks. This is good for those who use their calendar a lot or can stick
to schedules well. Schedule chunks of time throughout your week
Protecting Wireless Sensor Network From Internet Attacks
Protect wireless sensor network from Internet attacks

As the rapid development of internet, the technology of wireless sensor network (WSN) plays an
important role in our real life. Moreover, WSN are the essential elements on a wide range of fields
such as Internet of things (IOT). Thus, it is necessary to prevent WSN from internet attacks and
maintain its stability. Sensor nodes in WSN can not only collect and process physical data, but also
communicate with other entities. Therefore, this essay will illustrate three approaches on the
security of WSN and analyze as well as discuss the three approaches based on attacks types, attacks
source, applied range and energy consumption and so on.

Nowadays, there are already a large number of new ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although wireless sensor network and the other types of network sometimes need same security
requirements, providing security service for WSN own more challenges when compared with secure
foundation of network because of limited energy, the nodes number, storage, Internet bandwidth,
communication of sensor nodes and the capabilities of computation. Two main reasons are
computation capabilities and low traffic rates. The low traffic rate of sensor nodes can not support
battery of sensors to make the network smooth for a long time and devices in the WSN can not
support very complex computation to deal with some typical internet attacks. Additionally, Internet
attacks can be divided into two types: internal attacks and external attacks. Generally, internal attacks
are produced from malicious nodes. On the other hand, when it comes to the external attacks,
wireless sensor network are easy to be attacked by several types of external internet attacks, which
can be considered to three main aspects: secrecy and authentication attacks, network availability
attacks and replay attacks.(p135, denial). Although many traditional techniques that have been used
to resist various kinds of attacks, there are still remain serious problems in security of WSN. As a
result, it is necessary to come up with the most effective approach to handle the Internet attacks in
time because the faster development of technology, the more security problems. For these reasons,
the prevention of
Dementia Caregiver Characteristics
It is necessary for caregivers to put their own needs first, before they take on the responsibility of
looking after a loved one affected by dementia. Offering a long term support group, that also
incorporates education into it, for informal caregivers tending to older adults affected by dementia,
can be extremely helpful for those who are wanting to strive through this time in their life. The goal
of this group is to help participants gain a better understanding on how to handle stress, get them to
recognize and encounter their own needs, and decrease their isolation, by building up a healthier
support system. There is a need for this specific group because, as we can see from research, the
older population is increasing, and dementia is... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The group will be lead by a clinical social worker and will be limited to twenty participants.
Therefore, this will be an informal group because it is small in size. The participants are able to
share their experiences with each other and every group member is treated equally. The group
will meet three times a week on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays for a total of six weeks. In
order to accomplish the goals, the length of the meetings will be two hours long, and will be
taking place in a church setting. Group participants will be referred by people in their community
or health care provider, only if they are interested in getting connected. The rules in the group will
consist of being on time, being respectful of other people who are in the group and towards your
leader, and whatever is being discussed in the group can not be shared to others outside of the
group, unless someone says something that can harm themselves or harm someone else. Types of
risks that members are asked to take include, sharing their own experiences by opening up to the
other group members, and asking for help by admitting to the challenges that they are currently
facing. Leaders are to always provide a safe environment for the members of the group to share in.
They also, are to inform the group members about confidentiality, in the very
The Big Man And Chiefdom Societies In New Guinea
In the big man and chiefdom societies, gift giving is sometimes used as a means of attack to gain
personal prestige. The Kwakiutl are a prime example as well as various groups in New Guinea.
According to the lecture notes, the way it works is the citizens of the Big Man societies come
and pay their debt to their leader, then are invited to a huge feast in which the leader gives all that
he has received away to everyone, rich or poor. He becomes known as a generous leader and gains
respect and admiration from his followers. The Big Man societies follow the rule that the more
prestige you gain, the higher your political power and status will be. The chiefdoms, however, do
not follow this rule. Instead, they follow a ranked system based on the
Personal Bankruptcy Case
Many people who are planning to file for bankruptcy protection are concerned with how it will
impact their job. Can you be fired for filing a Chapter 7 or Chapter 13? Fortunately, the answer is
no. The Bankruptcy Code prohibits your employer from firing you solely because you filed a
bankruptcy case. You may also be concerned about whether your employer will discover that you
have filed a personal bankruptcy. Although your filing is a matter of public record and anyone who
is searching for your case information can find it, the reality is that most people will not make this
effort. For more information about who will find out about your bankruptcy filing, please read our

Game Theory Reflection
My independent study on Game Theory this past semester has been an extremely rewarding
experience. It has pushed me to learn more about myself, to approach the world with new
perspectives, to see similarities across discipline, and to cross apply knowledge to improve my
models. I was drawn into Game Theory because of its wide range of applications across academic
disciplines like economics, biology, and history as well as in real life situations like bargaining and
getting loans. In my independent proposal and my first blog post, I have established exploring the
real world applications of Game Theoryas one of my major goals this semester. Since the start of
September, I ve been watching Game Theory courses on Yale Open Courseware and doing weekly
problem sets accompanying the lectures. The diverse examples Professor Polak used to illustrate
complex concepts confirmed my previous beliefs that Game Theory is not an isolated and purely
theoretical subject, but is developed to answer human curiosities and our needs. These lectures not
only taught me to draw payoff matrices and decision tree to figure out best responses to hypothetical
situation but also to see the similarities in life situations through the perspectives of simplistic
mathematic models. For example, the generalized prisoner s dilemma model that involves two
players and two strategies can be used to explain the necessity of roommate contract, procrastination
in group projects, or grades inflation in the
