Popular Culture Virus
A lethal virus stands before each individual, making its way in and around everyone across the
nation. One cannot go to the doctor to be tested positive or negative indicating the exposure to this
sickness, nor can one be prescribed medication to become healed. This disease is known as popular
culture. Popular culture consists of everyday objects, actions, and events that influence people to
believe, and behave in certain ways (Sellnow 2). Many humans fail to make their own decisions for
themselves because of the strong influence of popular culture. The constant and overwhelming
influence of society causes popular culture to become dangerous, much like a virus, infecting every
single person. Although many enjoy the up beat sense of popular... Show more content on

All Americans stand under some type of influence, whether it exist in the form of persuasion of
celebrities, movies, or music. Popular culture, much like a disease, is very hard to stay away from
and one remains unaware of the massive exposure in everyday life. Due to the disguise of popular
culture, individuals no longer inhabit themselves quite as unique. People constantly become too
overwhelmed with actions going on around them that they forget to figure out who they are and who
they want to be. Popular culture shapes American society by the influence that has pressed upon

As a result, he is home most all of time. He is not accustoming to being home and Norma Jean is

perspectives Norma Jean and Leroy can relate, appreciate and perceive pleasures of petroleum

connection while viewing things differently.

Childhood Trauma Can Have A Significant Impact On The...
Childhood trauma can have a significant impact on the behaviour of an individual. Previous
research has shown how trauma causes behavioral problems and can also result in mental
disorders in the person. Studies conducted by Gabriele et al. (2002) and Sara et al. (2013) show
how incidences of physical, sexual, and emotional abuse are widespread in patients with bipolar
disorder. Gabriele et al. (2002) conducted the research to find out the impact of adverse childhood
events, mainly physical and sexual abuse on bipolar disorder. Their hypothesis was, the occurrence
of these traumatic events early in life would add to the vulnerability for the development and
recurrence of affective episodes, presaging a more severe course of bipolar... Show more content on

The study found out that the history of abuse was related to an early age of onset, Axis 1 and
Axis 2 disorders, suicide attempts and lifetime history of substance abuse. There was a strong
relationship between physical abuse and mania. Comorbidities were found. Those who experienced
physical and sexual abuse had eating disorders, anxiety disorders and PTSD. Lastly, the researchers
concluded that genetic predispositions and traumatic experiences can increase the vulnerability of
developing bipolar illness. In conclusion, the results of the study supported the hypothesis. Another
study by Sara et al. (2013) also explored how adverse events are related to bipolar illness. Along
with physical and sexual abuse, the study emphasized on emotional abuse. The study had many
aims. Firstly, the researchers wanted to find out if childhood trauma was associated with an earlier
age of onset. Secondly, whether trauma resulted in reduced Global Assessment Functioning in the
participants. Lastly, they were interested in finding out if specific and different types of trauma
were related to different characteristics of the disorder. Adverse childhood events were measured by
using the Childhood Trauma Questionnaire. This questionnaire was completed by 141 participants
who were diagnosed with bipolar disorder according to DSM IV. The participants were between 18
to 65 years old. Childhood
Unionization, Collective Bargaining, And Discrimination
Prior to reading this novel, the whole concept of unionization and collective bargaining was a
completely foreign subject to me. I had heard people talking about them, but I had no idea what
kind of power they held, and just how much difficulty they caused in the workplace. In reading
Unintimidated by Wisconsin s governor Scott Walker, I learned just how much power a union
could hold over management, and just how strongly people felt towards unionization on both
sides of the issue. While reading this book, I developed some beliefs about unions, and I certified
my beliefs in other areas of politics. Right from the beginning of the novel, I knew that the
governor was going to be in for quite a fight, considering he was taking over from a predecessor...

Scott Walker faced opposition at every step of the way, but he saw the bigger picture, a state that
people wanted to move to because it had great schools and was business friendly. Instead of
making it a Republican versus Democrat issue, Scott Walker spoke to the entire population of
Wisconsin, giving them hope that by having Act 10 passed it would me Wisconsin a better place.
It would put more money back in the state s pocket, which would in turn allow citizens to save
money. By remaining bipartisan, but not giving up his believes and morals, Scott Walker was able
to unite a population that was severely divided through a process that almost got his time as
governor recalled. So not only was he able to save the state money, he was able to win two

Partisan Media Analysis
The article begins by explaining the main purpose for the research inquiry. If this recent election has
proven anything, it is that there is vast wealth of election coverage. Citizens can now access
political information, and news coverage from almost anywhere through a variety of mediums. This
increased access has opened a new dimension. Partisan media effects have been researched in the
past. However, this article points out that there is a lack of inquiry on the timing of partisan media
influence during the electioncycle.
A common mistake that occurs during past research is the assumption that partisan media effects are
static. This however, is not the case. The article points towards an evolving and dynamic media

This shows a diminishing return effect. More exposure repeatedly reduces the effect. These two
referenced influences set the stage for the following research designs.
The two surveys utilized data from the National Annenberg Election Study. The data was retrieved
using Internet and telephone collection methods. An advantage to this method was the utilization
of two pools of sampling. The pools were each collected from the Internet, and one telephone.
Also, the author used already available data. This significantly reduced the time and financial
strain that a survey could take up. The sample was collected through random digit dialing and
availability to the Internet. This adds to the reliability of the results. Traditional phone surveys use
a set list of phone numbers. This would exclude those who have private or unlisted numbers. This
problem is avoided with random digit dialing. The surveys were conducted during four different
waves. The waves were from winter, spring, summer, and fall waves. The winter wave resulted in
19,190 respondents. The spring wave resulted in 17, 747 interviews. The summer wave included
20,052 interviews. The fall wave resulted in 19,241 respondents. To be
How Is Little Red Riding Hood Changing
Throughout history, women have been portrayed in a variety of ways; by following a popular
story that has been rewritten several times over the years, we can see this progression. Little Red
Riding Hood was first written in 1697, and since then has been in a constant state of evolution and
change (Elmore). We will be looking at the 1697 version of Little Red Riding Hoodand comparing it
to newer versions; this will give us a chance to see how attitudes towards women have changed
over the years. So that we don t confuse the different characters, we will explore Little Red Riding
Hood one story at a time. We are going to use Charles Perrault s 1697 story of Little Red Riding
Hood as our baseline because it is the oldest known modern version (Zipes et. al. 339). This is the
classic tale we all know; Little Red Riding Hood is tricked by the wolf, and bad things happen at
Grandma s house. What sets the original story apart from other early versions of the story is the
moral at the end, which states .................................pretty girls. Polite, well taught, and Pure as
pearls, Should stay on guard against all sorts of men. For if one fails to stay alert, it won t be strange
To see one eaten by a wolf enraged. (344)
Perrault teaches little girls that if a man does something to them, it is their fault for not being on
Guard (344). He reinforces this blame and guilt by not punishing the wolf at the end. In the newer
versions, the wolf is usually killed or injured because
Similarities Between Tang And Song Dynasties
Major changes in political structure, social and economic life define the Sui, Tang, and Song
dynasties. During the sixth century, General Yang Jian, ended the Age of the Disunity. He conquered
China and launched the short lived Sui Dynasty. This managed to open the room for six centuries of
Chinese Preeminence under the Tang and Song Dynasties (Connections: A World History, Volume 1,
page 311). Yang Jian married a wealthy noblewoman, who then helped him become a main advisor
to a northern emperor, whom he wedded his daughter too. In 581, he started a new dynasty called
Sui (Connections: A World History, Volume 1 pages 311 312). The country also documents many
eminent people who gave to the nation s enrichment and development experienced today.
Nevertheless, this essay seeks to discuss the major alterations in political structures, social and
economic life that took place during the Sui dynasty, the Tang dynastyand the Song dynasty in China.

Human Communication And Its Own Purpose

professional or entirely show one s personality. In some workplaces one need s to show clients
they can always be professional. Certain workplaces have dress codes and policies of what one can

The ten decisions are: economic level, educational level, trustworthiness, social position, level of
sophistication, economic background, social background, educational background, level of success,
and moral character (Hickson, 1989). Clothing can also communicate behavior, status, and
characteristics of people.
Behavior, Status, Characteristics Studies have been done to see how clothing can affect people s
behavior, social status, and characteristics. One test conducted by Thomas Hoult showed
characteristics with a photo lineup of several college aged men. In the first test, photos were
ranked with no indication to clothing. After the photos were ranked once they were divided in to
groups and ranked again this time with a focus on clothing. Once all ranked the men s heads in the
photos were cut out and the heads that were ranked low were pasted on to the clothing that was
ranked high. Then these photos were ranked like before. The results were the heads that had low
scores and were pasted on to clothes that were ranked high got higher rankings than from their
original clothing (Hickson, 1989).
The Success in Clothing Ever thought clothing could give someone success in a job? Ever thought
how clothing can also give someone the impression one is successful? Let s take a look at the
clothes of a businessman. To show that one has authority, credibility, and likability one should wear
a suit (Hickson, 1989). Dark colors communicate authority, but avoid black,
Screen Time Speech
In April 2017, a children s media expert, Sara DeWhitt, gave an intriguing but short speech that she
titled 3 fears about screen time for kids and why they aren t true to compelled the audience to
believe that children are highly impacted by screen time. This speech was spoken at an official Ted
Talk conference located in Vancouver, Canada. The speech was just shy of twelve minutes, but has
the future ability to impact millions of people for millions of years. Throughout her speech, DeWhitt
focuses the discussion on the positive impact of screen time and contests the perceived negative one.
Her main purpose was to correctly inform the audienceof the fears most people commonly believe.
This is easily identifiable when she discusses her fears and backs them up with statistics and data,
she had previously studied. (Q1) The central message was easy to pick up and clear in her speech
because she exaggerated that she had three points and then later went on in the body paragraphs to
discuss each fearshe had for the future of electronic devices. (Q2) The speech never left me
questioning what her purpose was. It was abundantly clear that she wanted the truth of these devices
to be released and that s what she accomplished.
In my opinion, I think Sara DeWhitt was audience centered when she gave her Ted Talk speech.
Her language was appropriate that allowed all people with any level of intelligence to understand. It
also allowed it to be directed towards the entire audience, not
The At The Jacobs School Of Music Recital Hall
For my critique #2, I went to a recital that was performed at 5pm on October 30th, 2016 at the
Jacobs School of Music Recital Hall. The name of the performer was Yuehan Wang. She is a
graduate student at the Jacobs School of Music. My professor told us that if the class is looking for
a recital, this would be an option.

There were two pieces: Miroirs and the 24 Preludes, Op.28. Miroirs was composed by Maurice Ravel
during 1904 and 1905. He was not only a famous French composer, but he was also a professional
pianist. Ricardo Vines, a Spanish pianist, first performed the piece to the public in the year 1906.
My friend, who is also majoring in piano in another school, taught me that there are usually five
individual movements in Miroirs. However, Yuehan Wang only play three of them during her piano
recital. Of the five major segments, Yuehan Wang played Oiseaux tristes, Une barque sur l ocean,
and La vallee des cloches. While there are various parts in Miroirs, each section has many
different meanings. According to PianoSociety.com, Oiseaux symbolizes sorrowful birds , Une
barque sur l ocean represents, A ship on the sea , and finally La vallee des cloches means The
valley of bells. Second, Fryderyk Chopin was a Polish composer and created many piano pieces for
solo pianists including the 24 Preludes. Although he created the pieces in 1835, Alain Jacquon first
played the pieces in 2002. There are many individual movements within the 24 Preludes, Op.28
including various

Dippers And Plungers Essay
Once the last few weeks of gorgeous weather are over and we re reduced to puddles there will be
three types of people at poolside: loungers, dippers, and plungers. Loungers don t like to be
splashed and are content to watch from a distance. Dippers like to feel their way into the water,
slow and steady, while Plungers whizz past you and dive right in whooping and hollering. When
it comes to hair I find salon clients are very similar. Loungers can be resistant to change and stay in a
time warp for years; Dippers will keep their look current by playing alongside a trends edge, while a
Plunger stays ahead of the crowd by diving right into what s exciting and innovative. If you look at

But not the hard contrast that s seen on those who wait too long between salon visits, but soft and
glossy. A technique I ve mentioned before is to Break the Base. Very simple and lunch hour quick, it
takes about 15 minutes to soften your regrowth and blend into your ends. Perfect for the client who
wants to try something new without committing to a radical change. The results are beautiful. But if
you re really game, another technique that s catching the fashion world by the tail is called Color
Melting. It s a seamless blend from roots to ends, using multiple colors. Unlike the defined contrast
of an Ombre, Color Melting is the perfect marriage of color that s undistinguished from each other.
Colors blur together as if grown naturally. Customized to any length, this technique is versatile
and low maintenance, but can be more expensive due to additional colors that are used to achieve
the desired look and the time it takes to get you there. But the gorgeous results are so worth it,
believe me! A few who wear it well are ~ Sarah Jessica Parker, Jessica Biel, Kate Beckinsale, Giselle
Bunchen, Julia Roberts, Cameron Diaz.
