Solutions To The Salutary Neglect Of The American Colonies
Great Britain s longest ruling monarch before Queen Victoria, King George III ascended the British
throne in 1760, during turbulent times in which, brought about several oppressive and abusive
actions towards the thirteen colonies. Salutary neglect: a policy of non interference, enabled the
American colonies to prosper by trading products. Nevertheless, when the French and Indian War
had finally come to an end, the British had severe debt and was left with possible solutions which
only revolved around taxing the colonies. Furthermore, the Royal Proclamation: a document that set
out guidelines for European settlement of Aboriginal territories, had infuriated the colonies and they
protested that the Proclamation deprived them of land known as their God given right. In 1774, the
British Parliament passed harsh and unbearable laws known as the Intolerable Actswhich were meant
to punish American colonists for the Boston Tea Partyand other protests. Overall, the colonists were
very wrathful regarding all acts and did not want the British Empireruling over them. To summarize,
in the short span of thirteen years, the colonies went from being loyal subjects of King George III to
becoming rebels capable of overthrowing the most dominant military nation on earth. To begin with,
salutary neglect was an unauthorized, but a long lasting British policy of avoiding harsh
enforcement of parliamentary laws indicated to keep the American colonies obedient to Great
Britain. The policy
The Sirius Xm Merger And Antitrust Considerations
The SIRIUS XM MERGER
And Antitrust Considerations

By Matthew Sachs
SCH MGMT 783
Nov 29, 2014 Executive Summary
In last 10 years there has been a major emergence of a company called XM / Sirius Satellite radio.
When fellow competitors XM Radio and Sirius Satellite Radio announced plans for a merger in
2007, most thought that an answer from the FCC would be coming the usual window of six months,
allowing for a smooth transition of these two companies. Ignoring a self imposed rule to handle such
cases in 6 months of less, FCC Chairman Kevin Martin chairman withheld the verdict for
approximately 17 months as his FCC debated the antitrust issues between Sirius and XM. Briefs
were submitted by the Justice Department, individual citizens, and traditional radio broadcasters,
arguing that the XM Sirius merger should have been prevented over antitrust concerns. Ultimately,
the Justice Department, and then the FCC, on a 3 2 vote, approved the merger in 2008. This paper
seeks to discuss merger and antitrust positions concerning Sirius XM by starting with a history of
each individual company, explaining the relevant business law topics and opponents /proponents
arguments, and highlighting the post merger financial success of the combined company.

Introduction.
XM Satellite Radio was actually the first of the two independent satellite radio companies to be
launched. It was founded by Lon Levin and Gary Parsons. XM initially started under the American

The Effects of Black Tea on the Growth of E. Coli Bacteria...
The effects of black tea on the growth of E. coli bacteria cultures

Abstract: This study was carried out in order to investigate whether black tea has antimicrobial
properties as stated in Steven Johnson s The Ghost Map. If tea does have antimicrobial properties,
then it could aid in warding off waterborne diseases. We believed that if black tea is steeped in
boiled water, then the amount of bacteria exposed to this solution would decrease. We expected to
see no difference in the amount of bacteria exposed to the black tea solution. Tannic acid, black tea,
boiled water, and a tetracycline antibiotic were tested for their zones of inhibition in order ... Show

The arrows represent the side in which the solution was placed. Each half of the plate contained 3
discs doused with the appropriate solution.
After the water was boiled, a black tea bag was then placed into one of the beakers and steeped for
4 minutes. This time was monitored using a stopwatch. After the tea had been steeped, 6 discs
were dipped into the tea solution and then placed in the appropriate agar plate (plate #3). The
discs were fairly equal distances apart. The same procedure was done with the other beaker of
boiled water, the antibiotic, and the different percentages of tannic acid. A total of 6 discs were
placed on each plate (ex: 3 dipped in boiled water, 3 in antibiotic in plate #1).
These agar plates with added discs were then placed in an incubator set to 37⁰C for 48 hours and
then placed in a refrigerator at 4⁰C. After the allotted time, the agar plates were taken out of storage
and the bacterial reactions to the different solutions were observed and the zone of inhibition on each
disc was measured in centimeters using a caliper measuring tool.

Dynamics As Interpersonal, Cultural, And Social
!!!Families

Families are not like sweat pants or pyjamas, they are not one size fits all . Family sizes and
dynamics vary from one to the other. Some families eat certain meals together every day, while
others do not. Some family homes include aunts, uncles, and grandparents in their living
accommodations. Other people prefer the nuclear family, which consists of just parents and children.
Different dynamics can change what a family looks like, where they live, and what functions they
serve.

!!!Dynamics

In the sense of this lesson, dynamics are forces that function to shape and change complex systems.
In this lesson, we re going to define particular dynamics as interpersonal, cultural, and social, but it s
important to remember that some dynamics may influence others. Generally, this proceeds from the
larger scale to the smaller. For instance, a person s relationship with his or her mother is a function of
individual dynamics. However, social dynamics can include intergenerational relationships, like
between parents or grandparents with younger members of the family. Finally, whether a family
lives with their grandparents or in laws is often a function of cultural dynamics. Since these living
arrangements influence the relationship between individuals, cultural dynamics may influence either
of the other two.

!!!Interpersonal Dynamics

Interpersonal dynamics involve how one person feels and behaves toward another. As the name
suggests, these dynamics are at the

There are two core design characteristics associated with DRG based payments; an exhaustive
patient case classification system (i.e. the system of diagnosis related groupings) and the payment
formula, which is based on the base rate multiplied by a relative cost weight specific for each DRG
(Mathauer Wittenbecher, 2013). These values can be set for the components and the potential effect
as policy levers as they are evaluated. Importantly, the qualitative and quantitative effect of a DRG
based payment system is also contingent upon the payment mechanism that is replaced (Mathauer
Wittenbecher, 2013). Certain issues that are induced by payment methodologies like the DRG, are
the unwanted incentives to increase hospital admissions, up coding and the under provision of
necessary services. Detailed in the article are the piloting of such a system; problems with coding
standardization, data availability and information technology requirements; integration of the private
sector, and hospital autonomy (Mathauer Wittenbecher, 2013). Fee for Service (FFS) Fee for
service is a payment model where services are paid for separately, in health care, as opposed to
bundeling them. It gives an incentive for physicians to provide more treatments because payment is
dependent on the quantity of care, rather than quality of care. Managed care plans and the Patient

Undocumented Americans Sociology
Undocumented Americans are like any other Americans, but with limited freedoms and opportunities
as their other American peers. In the United States, undocumented Americans number about 2.1
million, and almost half of them are now adults (Friedman, November 10th, 2016). Many of these
undocumented Americans were born in Mexico, moved to the United Statesand began their lives as
American since they were young. This particular group of immigrant youths face uncertain futures
clouded by fear and frustration due to the lack of rights, opportunities, and supports from both the
general publics and the government. Many undocumented Americans do not fully realize the
constraints of their status until they become young adults. Undocumented Americans ... Show more

With the social dimension, successful integration would mean living alongside the population
without fear of systematic discrimination, intimidation, or exploitation by the authorities or the
people of the country (Friedman, November 8th, 2016). The implication of social mobility has long
lasting impact on undocumented Americans. Many immigrant youths with undocumented status
saw being open with their peers regarding their immigration status as a threat to their standing in
social groups at school and within the broader community. In order to make their life seems as
normal as possible and avoid situations where they could be excluded, many college goers keep their
undocumented status a secret from friends. Many of the respondents in Lives of Limbo hide their
status from their friends because they felt embarrassed and did not want to experience exclusion
(Gonzales, 113). The negative discourse about Latino immigrants also take a toll on the routines and
activities of undocumented American. The racial constructions of Mexicans as criminals caused
immigrant youths to repel this stigma by concealing their undocumented status (Gonzalez, 109).
When they were young, they had inclusionary access; however, once they become young adults, they
are denied of participation in many institutions of mainstream life. Even if they discover their status
at a young age, they would still conceal it due to the fear of deportation. Many state and local
government are turning police officers into de facto immigration agents to crack down on
undocumented immigrants and those who provide them jobs and housing (Ewing,7). This
stigmatized identity leads to social exclusion, which also prevents these undocumented Americans
from integrating into the US mainstream. They feel out of place and unwelcoming by their peers if
their undocumented status is known by their friends and community. Integration is a
Pros And Cons Of Shih Tzu
The Shih Tzu is among the most popular of dogs and ranks quite high in ownership according to
the American Kennel Club. Even though it is highly ranked as dogs adopted or purchased each
year, there are some pluses and minuses to owning this particular breed of dog as a pet. Below you
will find some of the more important reasons for and against owning one these lovable little pets.

Pros:

A Shih Tzu is a highly outgoing and friendly pet with everyone they come into contact with. They
will almost turn themselves inside out when attention is paid to them. This particular breed is also
very loyal to their owners and loves to please them. They are going to get along with nearly every
type of animal that it comes into contact with as well.

You will find that if the dog is not brushed daily and groomed weekly, your pet s coat can become
tangled and knotted. Many owners have their pets coats trimmed so they are easier to care for.

Some of the medical problems with Shih Tzus are that they may develop ear infections and eye
problems and can have early tooth loss. They do tend to wheeze and snore and may develop
respiratory problems. These dogs should not be overfed as they gain weight easily.

Even though there are several cons to owning these adorable little dogs I believe the pros outweigh
them by far. Even though they aren t the ideal older pet for a young family this can usually be
overcome by getting a puppy and then teaching the children how to treat the pet and at the same
time teach the dog how to interact with its humans. Ask a Shih Tzu owner about their pet and you
will probably get rave reviews and many reasons why you should get one.

Taking a Look at Garden Cities
Garden cities, whether the appropriate concept in sustainable urban planning?
Introduction
It is widely acknowledged that Ebenezer Howard s Garden City stimulated many significant urban
design achievements in worldwide. Whether the theory is still suitable for sustainable urban
planning in twenty one century has been widely discussed. Some approvers argue that Howard
provided the idea of self sufficiency and limited growths still remain. However, the theory has been
denounced because it is too idealistic, difficult to implement. Therefore, this paper will first review
the original concept of Garden city, then examine legacy of the Garden Cities whether they have
proved to be successful, sustainable places. The paper is divided into three parts. In the first
section, the concept of Garden city will be first explained. In the second part, the discussion of
Garden city concept will be presented. Then, case study on modern garden city will be described at
last. The study shows, the ideas of Garden City have been widely misinterpreted, leading potential
risks on environment. In addition, to some extent, the morphological model of Garden city is not
appropriate any more due to vehicles dependency and new communication modes changed the
planning concept.
The concept of Garden City
In Garden Cities of To morrow, Howard (1902) provided a detailed discussion for new social and
city reform. The overall goal for Howard is to combine the traditional countryside with the

Abstract
This paper provides an insight on the effective pedagogical practices that can be used in the children
learning. Some of these practices include the incorporation of ICT in early childhood education and
some of effective direct instructional strategies that can have an impact in the learning process of
children. Five common learning outcomes for children are identified. In addition, the paper outlines
characteristics of effective teaching that contribute to effective teaching. Furthermore, the concept of
culture in early childhood education is also discussed.

Besides ensuring increased academic achievement, the use of instructional strategies should not
produce affective loss. Moreover, the instructional strategy that produces positive affective results is
the most effective teaching strategy. In order to achieve effective teaching fully, vital understanding
of the effective teaching practices, the students, teaching contexts, coherent decision making and
learning environments is significant (Dahlberg, Moss amp; Pence, 1999).
Characteristics of Effective Teaching
Effective teaching involves effective communicating, planning, managing and evaluating the actual
process of instructing. Reflective teaching plays a major role in making of informed decision
relating to the effective teaching strategies (Mabrina, Church amp; Tayler, 2010). Through reflective
teaching, teachers can be able to do a critical analysis their actions and their decisions. Reflective
teaching allows teachers to foresee the impact of the teaching methods and in the process may make
relevant changes in improving their strategies. In addition, the teacher gains a deeper understanding
by scrutinizing the goals of the teaching practice. According to the DEECD (2009), children s
learning becomes advanced when they experience interactions with highly effective childhood
professionals. Application of reflective teaching allows the childhood teachers to promote practices

Impact Of The Dodge Plan
POST WAR JAPAN S ECONOMIC MIRACLE The Dodge Plan of 1948 In the year 1947, Cold
War unrest had started building up in Eastern Asia that prompted the United States of America to
revise its policies towards Japan in order to accelerate its economic recovery. The Dodge Plan
conceived by Joseph Dodge in 1948 was implemented as a solution to bring Japan back to its
complete strength and economic recovery. The Dodge Plan focused on resolving the serious
problem of inflation and establishing a more stable Japan through three policies. First being a
balanced budget, followed by suspension of new loans from the Reconstruction Finance Bank (this
source of supply of money was identified as the root cause of inflation), and lastly, reducing as well
as completely eliminating subsidies. The above mentioned policies were identified to aid in
accelerating the Japanese economy. Dodge s policies caused problems along the way in its
implementation but it created a path for recovery without the help of America. The Japanese were
encouraged to economize and accumulate capital through such a policy. The Korean War Boom The
initial spell of the implementation of the Dodge Plan caused Japan to enter into recession, which

Combining imported technology with their domestic innovation was translated in the inception of
the Japanese low cost mass productions system. Technological improvements such as the one
mentioned above played a huge role in the country s economic growth, as improvement of
technology in one industry often influenced the growth of other industries. For instance, Japan s
steel industry was successful in improving the quality of steel used in manufacturing automobiles,
due to the technological process in the casing of parts; the automobile industry too benefited and
hence could reach a level where it could compete with its international
Billy The Kid Short Story
The Death of Billy the Kid
In the period time from 1865 1890, the Plain and Indian War. It started when the Americans wanted
to expand to the Great Plains. The only problem was that the Indians lived there. In addition, the
government decided to move them to reservations that were small and farming was not possible
because the land was dry. The Indians fought for their lands and some of those battles were the Battle
of the Little Bighorn, Wounded Knee, and the Sand Creek Massacre. Furthermore, after the Indians
lost, the government gave them the opportunity to become and live like white settlers. For that, they
will have to give up on their culture, traditions, and language. Furthermore, while the Plain and
Indian Wars was going on, in the Wild West Billy the Kidwas becoming a legend. In short, like
every legend there had to be an end. In the article, The Authentic Life of Billy the Kid by Garrett Pat,
identify the incidents that ended the life of William Bonney and the significates of this document in
the United States. In the document published by Garrett, it describes the events that led to the death
of Billy the kid, an important legend during the Plain and Indian Wars. It illustrates the history of
the myth. In the document, it informs the reader that, Billy the Kid was born in the slums of New
York City in 1859. Further, very few information about his background was given. It was up until he

Effects on Academic Achievement
Matt Leland (2005) emphasizes the benefits of mindfulness on academic achievement, Mindfulness
is helpful in the moment of learning and also in more future focused skills. By maintaining a
calmer view of the present, students are able to improve their study habits, planning, and
organizational skills (p. 20). During my elementary years, I wish I would have been taught more of
these skills to help with the academic struggles I experienced. When I was younger, I remember
feeling performance anxiety before I had to take an exam in science. Although I enjoyed science
class and studied, I felt overwhelmed, nervous, and my mind was going in a million different
directs. I also notice in my field experience that many of my students tense up or sigh when they are
told they are about to take an exam. There is an uneasiness that affected students in the classroom
and added pressure.
The research I gathered supported the positive effects mindfulness has on a student s concentration,
memory, and critical thinking skills. As a teacher, I would utilize this method before an exam by
modeling to my students how to focus on their breath while moving and stretching their body. I
would have students close their eyes and say positive words of affirmation about themselves in the
present moment. Here, mindfulness and movement allow students to feel a sense of calmness,
stimulate body and brain connections, and provide them with tools to take a positive approach
