Large Universities Vs. Small Universities . To Put It Quite
Large Universities vs. Small Universities To put it quite frankly, college searches are daunting for
students, parents, and even guidance counselors. With a plethora of universities offering a vast
variety of courses and degrees available, searching for one to settle down on can easily become a
quagmire for some. One of the biggest decisions to be made in this situation is the size of the
university. Although at first glance it may seem like a negligible detail, in fact, it can make or break
a student s collegeexperience. Large colleges have an incredible amount of majors to offer students,
while smaller ones may not have as many, yet find a way to tailor to individual students. By that
same token, large universities can have several... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The difference, besides the point that the University of Central Florida is more like Blue
Mountain State than a true institution, is that the University of Central Florida offers over 100
majors, ranging from real estate, to theatre studio management track, all the way to
biotechnology. Yale, on the other hand, only had 53 majors as of 2015. Therefore, as a student
who has groundwork all laid out, it may be easier to go to a school where their major even exists,
whereas an undeclared student would perhaps prefer a school with limited yet welcoming options.
Smaller universities, although having limited options also may offer the idea of independent study
or may tailor a major towards a small group of students with a specific subject matter in mind
something far from possible in an enormous school. In fact, Yale s undergraduate page reads, Not
yet sure what you want to do with your life? Don t worry. You have time. Most Yale students wait
until sophomore year before declaring a major. Therefore proving the idea that a smaller school
allows more academic freedom for students, which may be important to some. With many majors, it
is not surprising that larger universities are given more updated research facilities and more research
funding than a smaller school. On the contrary, reputable universities (such as John Hopkins, Yale,
Amherst College, MIT, the standard miracle schools) are given more credit in general when
Ambiguity Of Fire In Fahrenheit 451
Fire has capabilities that can both be bad and good, making it ambiguous. Some believe fire
represents destruction, while others believe it to represent intelligence and comfort. Throughout the
novel, Montag s aspects on fire change; at first believing it was destructive, to viewing it as an
intelligence source of comforting nature. In Fahrenheit 451, Ray Bradburydepicts the ambiguity of
fire s symbolism.
Bradbury begins his novel with Montag burning books, showing the society s and Montag s views
on the destructive force. It was a special pleasure to see things eaten, to see things blackened and
changed (Bradbury 3). Fire is shown as a destructive force, as we see the firemen use it to burn
books, destroying the contents of intelligence ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When he escapes from the city the flame of his suppressed human spirit spreads through his
whole being after his...murder of Beatty, he is transformed into someone with passion and
knowledge. While also escaping the city, Montag discovers a different nature of fire he had never
known, one which was not burning... it was warming (Bradbury 145). He sees a group of men
called the book people, gathering around a fire in comfort and togetherness. Also, Bradbury
expands on the positive side of fire with the story of the phoenix: Every time he burnt himself up
he sprang out of the ashes, he got himself born all over again (Bradbury 163). After the bombing
of the city, the phoenix can be compared to the society, because it burns itself up and after rises
out of it. The ability of the phoenix not only represents the rebirth of society, but also Montag s
transformation. Through the story of the phoenix, Montag understands that fire could give as well
as take (Bradbury 146) even through the society s views to exploit fire to keep people happy .
Bradbury also uses the title of part three of Fahrenheit 451, to show the changed views of fire.
Burning Bright represents a different ambiguity of burning, symbolizing Montag s passion. Montag
is burning brightly , expressing his passion.
Often there are many meanings to many different things, and throughout Fahrenheit 451, Ray
Bradbury depicts the many meanings of fire. At first Montag only views fire as a destructive force,
but eventually understanding its comforting nature. As mentioned by Bradbury, while fire can cause
destruction, its comforting nature renews through the ages, and the same fire that controlled Montag
before, will now help him on his journey to creating a transformed
Am I Not A Woman And A Sister
In this assignment I will be taking a further look into the history of slavery. When thinking of
slavery the immediate thought that comes to mind is all the negative aspects of the system.
Prior to this research, I was unaware of slave systems that were not based on the long labor hours
and the torture of slaves. Granted, there were still forms of slavery that practiced these brutal
rituals, where slaves were treated as animals and were malnourished. One prime example of this,
is the book titled Am I Not A Woman And A Sister , looks at the history of a Bermudan slave
named Mary Prince. Another example of slavery that will be incorporated in this paper will come
from a source about a woman slave named Semsigul, born in Caucasus an area that... Show more

In the story about Mary Prince, she had several owners. Mrs. Williams one of Mary Prince s first
owners was described as kind hearted good women, who treated all her slaves well (Prince 7). Mr.
Williams was described as an abusive husband, I think this may be the reason why she treated her
slaves with so much kindness. Mary Prince had another owner by the name of Mr.D. Mr.D lived
in Grand Quay, a small town, where he had owned a salt pound (Prince 19). Mr. D received
profits for having slaves work in his salt pound. When he would beat Mary or order her to be
punished she would describe him as being emotionless (Prince 20). The fact that Mr.D was
running a business lead me to believe he could not show any weakness towards the slaves. This
type of mentality would perhaps make the slaves fear him greater than the typical slave owner and
raise the level of productivity of the slaves in fear of being beaten with no remorse. Even though
this seems inhuman, it was also Mr.D s livelihood to ensure the slaves were continuing to work
Cause and Effect -- Procrastination Essay
Procrastination I ll stop procrastinating...Tomorrow. This is a mindset that is possessed by a majority
of students today. Although putting off writing that English paper until the night before it is due
may not seem like a big deal, it has many harmful effects. In fact, what better topic is there for that
English paper? Very few are spared from the epidemic known as procrastination. Even less overcome
this issue. In order to successfully defeat procrastination, we must first understand it. According to
the Merriam Webster dictionary, to procrastinate is to put off intentionally the doing of something
that should be done. Another way of putting it is to wait until the last minute. Procrastination is a
very bad habit. Even though... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With that being said, being overwhelmed certainly does not help. This can lead to forgetting
important details and due dates. Another factor that causes procrastination is fear. Fear is a very
powerful emotion. Whenever someone is faced with a difficult task, they can become overran by
the fear of not being able to complete it. People who succumb to this are setting themselves up for
failure. Whenever someone feels as if they are going to fail, they tend to postpone the task for as
long as possible. This means that they often try to avoid the task all together until completion is
absolutely necessary. In doing so, the number of tasks that need to be done increases. However,
the time required to complete them does not. Perfectionism can also lead to procrastination. This
is because a person is setting a goal for themselves that is unreachable. Whenever these goals are
not met, they are a huge source of discouragement even though they couldn t have been completed
in the first place. This will result in lower productivity. From here, it is nothing but a downward
spiral. One must realize that no one can write the perfect English paper. Instead of trying to
accomplish this, we should focus our time and effort on writing the best paper according to our
personal abilities. However, no one should be satisfied with less than what can be achieved. All of
these factors lead to the lack of motivation. Personally, I
The Current Legal Drinking Age
In today s American society, the consumption of alcohol is commonly practiced. It is quite
uncommon for one to attend a social event where the presence of alcohol is obsolete. However,
society has deemed it fit to tell our youth that they are not allowed to participate in the traditional
social pastime of drinking until they reach the age of 21. Hence, when they encounter methods
around this predicament and most of them do young adults often participate in the reckless
consumption of alcohol in large quantities.
II.Thesis: Essentially, the most obvious way to resolve this societal flaw is to lower the minimum
legal drinking age and to commence educating our youth about mature alcohol use sooner.
III.Credibility: Like many others, I have directly been affected by the minimum drinking age in one
way or another, and I have done extensive research on this topic to show the effects it has and how it
can be changed.
IV.Preview: This afternoon, I will discuss the current legal drinking age, today s generation, and the
potential resolutions to underage drinking problems.

Body
I.Main Point 1: In response to the drunk driving epidemic, which was brought to attention by MADD
(Mothers Against Drunk Driving), President Ronald Reagan passed the Minimum Drinking Age Act
in July of 1984.
a.Sub Point: According to the Alcohol Policy Information System, the 1984 National Minimum
Drinking Age Act requires that States prohibit persons under 21 years of age from purchasing or
Longboarding Vs Longboard Research Paper
The feeling riders get as they are skating around town on a nice sunny day, with all of their
buddies, is one of the best feelings in the world. Many people do not know this, but there is
actually more than one type of skating. The two biggest types are skateboarding and longboarding.
There are many similarities and differences between the two. The first being the length and style of
the deck. Longboards are generally longer and shaped differently than a regular skateboard. Second,
would be how the board is ridden and the different tricks riders can do on each type of board.
Regardless, people can ride and cruise on either type. The last comparison is the price difference
between the two boards. Most of the time a longboard is more expensive... Show more content on

Most of the time, longboards are more expensive than skateboards because they have bigger
trucks, wheels, and the deck is longer. This is not always the case though. If a skateboard is more
expensive than a longboard, the longboard is more than likely a cheaper made board with lower
quality trucks and wheels. This does not mean the board is terrible, it just means it was made
cheaper so that more people can afford to buy it. Skateboards are the same way. The good brands of
skateboard decks like Baker, Anti Hero, Plan B, Deathwish, etc... are normally $40 $60.
Longboards decks, especially brands like Sector 9, Globe, Landyachtz, etc... can start at around
$75 and can get up to over $200 for just the deck. Even though every board is different in price, they
are all equally as enjoyable to
The Discovery Of Cells And The Cell Theory
The cell. The most basic form of life, and yet the most complex structure Mother Nature has to
offer. For hundreds of years, man has tried to crack its codes, to try and find what makes it tick;
but it seems that the deeper we go into the study of cells, the more questions appear too. The
purpose of this entire essay is to educate my readers on cells, our discovery of cells and the cell
theory, where we believe they first appeared, and how we have learned to manipulate cells to cure
diseases like cancer. I will also talk about how our knowledge of cells has changed our medicine
and agriculture, and how ethnic some of these changes are. But first, let us talk about the
discovery of cells and the cell theory. Robert Hooke, an english scientist, was the man who first
discovered the cell in 1665, proof being a book he released at that time called Micrographia. In
this book, Hooke gave 60 observations of random objects under a compound microscope with a
magnification of 30x. Because of this, he was not able to see the internal structures in the cell, like
nuclei and vacuoles, and what he proclaimed to be cells were just empty cell walls of plant tissues.
He shared his observations with The English Royal Society, until they started receiving letters from a
scientist named Anton van Leeuwenhoek. The letters stated that Anton made use of a microscope
containing improved lenses that magnified objects up to 275x, enough to identify the living parts of
a cell. He kept on sending
Effects Of Media Violence On Society
Effects of Media on Society
Media violence has numerous negative consequences on youth today to commit criminal acts in the
society.
Violence in the media will never be stopped as long as the society spends more time on violent
movies and video games.
Media violence has been tremendously growing and attaining the hazardous extents. Around 60 % of
TV shows contain some kind of violence. Most self involving video games contain some violent
matter in it. For example, if you manufacture guns, you do not need to give any advertisement,
because it is done by the amusement industry. Aggressive behavior, desensitization to violence,
hallucinations, and fear of being mishandled were caused by the media violence, was explained in
a 2009 Policy Statement on Media Violence, by the American Academy of Pediatrics (Arline,
2012). The increase in aggressive behavior happens by watching violent video shows on TV, and by
playing violent video games.
The researchers found that boys and girls who played a lot of violent video games changed over
the school year. Media violence is not probable to convert a child into a violent criminal. But,
someday by just smoking a cigarette can increase the likelihood of a lung cancer. Likewise, a
violent show can increase the likelihood of behaving in an aggressive way (Bushman and
Huesmann, p. 248). There are many reasons to be worried about the level of violence in the society,
it is clearly simplistic and confusing to hold that the major cause of criminal
