Intro To BIM and Revit Basics

Building Information Modeling (BIM) is a digital representation used in the construction industry to integrate all project information, aiding in both construction and lifecycle management. It has four levels of maturity, from basic 2D CAD to advanced automated systems that allow real-time collaboration. Understanding BIM can significantly benefit students by enhancing their knowledge and skills in modern construction practices.

Getting started with BIM

How much do you know about the term BIM or

Building Information Modelling?
BIM
• What does it mean?
• What is it used for or what are the advantages?
• Are we really applying the full concept of BIM?
• How can it help you as students?
Its meaning
• BIM stands for Building information Modeling
• It is used in the construction industry and it helps to create an
integrated digital information of a project
• It includes all the information needed to build the project and goes
beyond to maintain life cycle of a building even after it is fully
constructed
Levels of BIM
• There are four levels of BIM categorized based on maturity or as we
like to call it LOD(Level of Detail)
Levels of BIM
LEVEL O LEVEL 1 LEVEL 2 LEVEL 3

• BASIC LEVEL • MIX OF 2D AND 3D • UTILIZES 3D MODELS • AKA “OPEN BIM”

• TRADITIONAL 2D CAD • SOME DEGREE OF • MORE STRUCTURED • ADVANCED AND FULLY
• THERE IS NO COLLABORATION AND DEFINED AUTOMATED
COLLABORATION USING COLLABORATION • USES CENTRALIZED
CDE(CENTRALIZED • USES CDE MODEL STORED IN
DIGITAL PLATFORM) • EXCHANGE OF DATA CLOUD ALLOWING
USING IFC, COBie( this REAL TIME
is just an excel sheet INTEGRATION
for the owner no
biggie)
We say collaboration, well who are the
stakeholders then
