OBJECTIVES
At the end of the sension 90% of the student should be able to
A identify defferent parts of computer system
B, Determine each function and its uses and
B, perform on assigned take in a form of group activity
PARTS OF COMPUTER SYSTEM
Monitor
Keyboard
Mouse
System Unit
THE MAIN COMPUTER BOX (SYSTEM UNIT)-is the main
component of the computer system it has computer hardware parts
inside that perform the following
Temporary storage of information
Permanent storage of information
Hardware
Sofware
Interconected
CPU( CENTRAL PROCESSING UNIT – considered as the brain of
the computer
TWO TYPES OF MEMORY
PRIMARY MEMORY - it has limited capacity and data gets lost
when power is switched off
SECONDARY MEMORY – the type of memory is also known as external
memory these are used for storing data information permanently
RAM- which stand for (Random Access Memory ) is a type of computer
memory that pound short determe data storange for activity used
programs and data faster than other from of storange like hard drives
allowing for quik access by the process Ram its central fir system
performance enabling smooth multitating and application responsiveness
PRIMARY MEMORY-
RANDOM ACCESS MEMORY – storange data temporary when
computer it shut off all data get lost
READ ONLY MEMORY- (ROM)- The memory frome whuch we can only
read canoot write in it the information is stored permanently in used
memories during manufaction
SECONDARY MEMORY- USB FLASH DRIVE portable storange devices
attached data os USB port
HARD DRIVES- Mass storange devices store programs and data even
when the poer if off
MONITOR-Monitor commonly called as used visual display unit(UDU) is
the main output device of a computer
CRT- display is made up of small picture elements called pixels for shorts
FLAT- Panel display display monitor refers to a dass of vedio devices that
Hve reduced weight and power requepment compared to the CRT
KEYBOARD – The most commonly used input devices is the keyboard
on which data is entered by manually keying in typing certain keys
MOUSE – is it a pointing device which is used to control the movement
of mouse pointer and to make selection from the screen
FRONT PANEL- in most computer system units the front side containes
the elementa a user frequency susch as the power button an optical disk
an audio outlet for a p-air of headphones and a number if usb connection
POWER BOTON- The power button on a computer surves as a switch to
control the flow of electricity turning the devices on or off pressing the
power button initiates a sequence of events that includes powering on the
system initialing hardware and loading the operating system it also allows
for a forced shoutdown if help down for serval seconds
An optical drives- primamry function it its read and write data on
optical drives like cds dvd blue ray dises it uses a loser to access the
data enconded the dise surface allowing users to play enconded on install
software or back up data
AUDIO PORTS- connect computer to audio diveces like speakers
headphones and micerophones enabling input and output of output of
audio signals
AUSB SPORTS- or universal senals bus serves connected point for
various devices to a computer or other host device faalitaling both data
transfer and power delivery it enabling communication between the
computer and peripherals like printers keyboard mice external hard
drives abd smartphones USB ports also allow for charging devices like
phone anf tables
A RESET BUTTON –is a hardware or software Mechanism that starts a
devices or system restoring it to its and signals state or default setting
ots used to recover from a frozend or mal functioning devices or to
revert to vituals setting
The POWER SUPPLY-fan in a computer cods the power supply units
(DSU) by exhausting hot airs it helps prevent over heating and ensure the
PSU operates within sate temperature range
A POWER SUUPLY-the (PUS) conecites altemating current (AC) from a
wall autlet into direct current CDCD at he specific voltages needed by a
computer enternal companent it’s a crucial hardware component that
necessary power for the moltherboard CPU GRU hard drives and other
penpherals
A POWER SLOT-typically refers to a power connection or of power suppy
unit(PSU) in a computer system a power connector is a device that allows
electrical current to pass through is providing power to others component
Ps/(PERSONAL SYSTEM/2)- refers to a type of computer ports
commonly used for connecting keyboard mouse to a computer
VSP SPORTS- on the back panel allow you to connect various peripherals
such as external hard drives keyboard mice printers and more
Am ETHERNET PORT- also known as a LAM port is a physical in terface
that allows devices to connect to a local area network (LAM) or the
internet using Ethelement cables accourding to lenovw it enabling data
transmission and communication between devices on the same network
An HDMI-(high Definition Multimedia Interface) faaltates the
transmission the transmission of high quanty didgital audio and vedio
signals between devices these sports are common foud on TUS monitor
projector and device like blue ray players gaming consales and PCS they
enable the use of a single cable to carry both clutter vedio simplifying
connections and reducing cabble clutter
VGAS 15- The function of a UGA port is to connect a computer to a
monitor projector or other and display devices to transmit vedio signals it
uses an analog interface to send vedio data supporting resolutions and
refreiomrates suitable for older display and common presentation
scenarios
AUDIO PORTS- connect computer to audio devices like speakers
headphones and microphones enabling inout and output of audio signals
Pink=Microphones
Green= speakers
Blue= external audio source
LINE IN JACK- refers to an put connecting or part on a device that allows
you to connect on external audio source
