NOTEPAD

Notepad is a basic text-editing program provided by


Ms.Windows. The notepad application is a text
editor, where you can easily insert and modified the
texts. The notepad created files are known as text
files. The notepad Extension file name is “.txt”.
How to open notepad application
Click on start button
Select all programs.
Then accessories.
Then click on Notepad.
OR
Click on start button.
Then select Run program.
Then type notepad.
Then click ok command button.
It will automatically open the notepad application,
which contains title bar, menu bar, scroll bar and
work area where you can type your text. It
provides number of menus and its options these
follows:
FILE MENU
NEW (CTRL+N):- It creates an untitled text file.
OPEN (CTRL+O):- This option is used to open an
existing text files. When you click this option, it
appears “Open” dialog box, which contains
existing text files. Select the file name, which you
want to open. Then click “Open” command
button or press enter key.
SAVE (CTRL+S):- This option is used to save an
untitled text file or a modified text file. After click
this option it will display a “Save As” dialog box if
the file is untitled, where you have to type the file
name. Then click on “Save” command button or
press enter key to save the file.
SAVE AS:- Through this option you can create a
duplicate of the active text file with another file
name and any location.
PAGE SETUP:-Through this option you can save
the margin and orientation of the page of text
file. A page has four margins such as left, right,
top and bottom and two type of orientation such
as:
1. Portrait 2. Landscape.
When you click this option it will display a page
setup dialog box, where you have to enter margin
values, orientation, paper size, header and footer.
Then click ok command button.
PRINT (CTRL+P):- This option is used to print the
content of active text file. It requires printer
connection.
EXIT (ALT+F4):- It closes the notepad application.
EDIT MENU
UNDO(CTRL+Z):- It cancels or repeats the last
action performed by the user.
CUT(CTRL+X):-It cuts or deletes the selected text
and stores it on the clipboard. If any text is not
selected the cut option doesn’t active.
COPY(CTRL+C):- It copies the selected text and
store it on the office clipboard.
PASTE(CTRL+V):- This option is used to paste the
text which are lastly store on the clipboard
through the cut or copy option. This option
doesn’t active if any text is not cut or copied.
DELETE(DEL):- It removes or clears the selected
text.
SELECT ALL (CTRL+A):- Through this option we
can select all the text of the file at a time.
TIME &DATE(F5):- It inserts system date & time at
the insertion point.
FIND(CTRL+F):- It finds or searches specific string
from the current text file. When you click this
option it will display a find dialog box, where you
have to enter the word which you want to find.
Then click “find next” command button to find
the text.
FIND NEXT (F3):- Through this option you can find
the next text which you had specified the word in
“find “dialogue box.
REPLACE(CTRL+H):-Through this option you can
replace a new word in place of old word. After
click this option it will display ”replace” dialog
box. Then type word or character or string in find
what edit box. Then type new word or string in
“replace with” dialog box. Then click “replace”
command button to replace the text. If you want
to replace the word at once then click “replace
all” command button.
FORMAT MENU
WORD WRAP:-Through this option you can set
word wrap for the file. It display the content in a
single screen.
FONT:-Through this option you can set the font,
style and size for the text file. After click this
option it will display the “font” dialog box, where
you have to change font, style and size. Then click
ok command button. It also display preview of the
selected text.
