Thank you to the kind commuters who helped me on the train between Boston and New Haven on July 21st. I had
been in Boston for a college interview and had rushed to the station because there’s only one fast train an hour to
New York’s Penn Station. I was literally running when I dropped my phone. I picked that up and then jumped on the
train just before it left the station. A few minutes later, I read the electronic noticeboard on the train and saw that we
were going to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, not Penn Station. I realized I was heading to Pittsburgh and not New York!
I’m not used to traveling by myself. When I saw that my phone was broken too, I started to cry. I think most of the
people on the train car helped me to calm down and explained what I needed to do. A very nice lady let me use her
phone to tell my mom what had happened. I changed trains in New Haven and caught the next train back to Penn
Station from there. I don’t have a very good sense of direction for someone who wants to study geography after I
graduate from high school, do I? Thank you everyone!

Thanks to everyone who looked after my son at the Smithsonian yesterday. We had just visited the Air and Space
Museum and my two boys wanted to see the dinosaurs at the Museum of Natural History before we went home. It
was really crowded and I had my youngest son in a stroller. Thomas, who is six, wanted to go faster and ran off ahead.
I immediately lost sight of him in the crowd. He got to the Museum of Natural History and then realized he was lost.
Apparently, many people stood in a circle around him to keep him safe. The police were there in seconds, and one
police officer carried Thomas on his shoulders to watch for me. I reached him about two minutes later. By then, a nice
street performer — one of those guys who stands still like a statue — had even bought Thomas an ice cream. I was
terrified but Thomas was delighted. I am grateful to you all.

Thanks to the man with the gray and green water bottle on the Washington Metro Red Line. The weather was so hot
and I was feeling faint. You gave me your seat and your water bottle. I think you had red hair, but you definitely had
rainbow striped socks because I was looking at them for about 10 minutes. I thought I was going to be sick, so I left
the train at Dupont Circle to cool off before getting back on the Metro. I took a little walk to look for a café and found
several apartments to rent. I’m moving to Dupont Circle next week! Would you like your water bottle back?
