The maps illustrate the
alterations that occurred in
the layout of a library’s
ground floor between 2001
and 2009.

Overall, the area underwent

a number of changes, the
most important of which are
the addition of digital
facilities and user-focused
spaces at the expense of
several book sections.
These changes transformed
the library into a more
modern and user-friendly
one.

HUNG HOANG
In 2001, the librarian’s desk was
located directly opposite the entrance,
with a staircase positioned at the
bottom right corner, with a staircase
located in the southeast corner. Along
the western wall, from top to bottom,
were shelves for History and Self-help,
while a large Fiction section extended
across the entire back wall of the room.
The Newspapers & Periodicals
occupied the right-hand side. At the
center of the room were eight square
tables arranged in four rows of two,
providing ample space for users to
read and study.

By 2009, the layout had been

extensively modernized to serve a
wider range of users. The original
Fiction section was relocated and
flanked by Self-help and History along
the left-hand side. These three
categories were compressed in size to
make space for new sections including
Law, Economics, and a Kitchen, all
placed above them on the left side of
the room. On the right-hand side, the
Newspapers & Periodicals were
replaced with Films & DVDs, and two
computer stations were installed
nearby. At the back of the library, the
Fiction shelves were removed to
accommodate a Children’s area.
Additionally, the eight square tables in
the center were replaced with four
longer rectangular ones, divided into
two upper and two lower rows, allowing
for better group use and collaboration.

The maps illustrate the
alterations that occurred
in the town of Sholeaton
between 1985 and 2015.

Overall, the area

underwent a number of
changes, the most
important of which are
the development of
recreational, commercial,
and transport
infrastructure, at the
expense of former public
amenities and open
spaces. These changes
have transformed the
town into a more leisure-
oriented and accessible
one.

HUNG HOANG
In 1985, the northwest of
the town featured a small
park with only two trees,
adjacent to a large
swimming pool to its east.
Below the park, two L-
shaped rows of shops
enclosed a café, with the
café positioned to the
southeast of this cluster.
Directly beneath the café
stood a larger rectangular
shop that spanned from
west to east, and to the
east and south of this
structure were a bus station
and car park, respectively.
Moving eastward, a
shopping centre occupied a
significant portion of central
Sholeaton, while four small
houses were located to its
right. A small library stood
in the southeastern corner
of the town, far from the
main amenities.

By 2015, several major developments had taken place. The park was expanded to twice its original size and planted with more trees,
while the swimming pool was removed to make room for a library occupying about a third of the original pool’s space. The former café
was demolished to make way for a circular fountain, which became the centrepiece of a new square courtyard surrounded by trees and
newly built restaurants to the east and south. To the west of this new recreational area, the shopping centre was significantly extended
southward, replacing the former bus station. This facility was relocated further south, just below the car park, and was now accompanied
by a new bicycle park to its east. Additionally, the residential zone was expanded to include eight houses, doubling the original number.
The old library was removed and replaced with a modern business centre. Finally, a new pedestrian crossing and a dedicated cycle lane
were introduced along the eastern edge of the map, improving connectivity and accessibility across the town.

HUNG HOANG
The maps illustrate the
changes that occurred in
Youngsville in New Zealand
between 1990 and 2010.

Overall, the area has

undergone a significant
transformation from a green
and low-density place into a
more urbanised and
industrialised city.This
transition is characterised by
the removal of woodland, the
construction of industrial and
commercial facilities, and the
expansion of transport
infrastructure.

In 1990, the northern part of Youngsville, which lies above the River Alannah, was largely natural and residential. At the centre of this
section was a lake where people could swim and fish, surrounded by trees. A hospital was situated to its southwest, and a row of
houses stretched along the eastern edge of the town. A horizontal road passed just beneath the hospital, cutting through part of the
woodland and residential area before intersecting a vertical road that ran from north to south. By 2010, most of the woodland had been
cleared to accommodate a car park in the north, a golf course in the west, and a public park directly south of the lake. In addition to the
existing water-based activities, people could now go boating, which enhanced the recreational value of the lake. On the empty land
east of the lake, a stadium and a new parking area were added, with the former in the northeast corner and the latter in the southeast.
Meanwhile, the row of houses along the eastern boundary was removed to make way for a new railway line connecting the northern
and southern parts of the town, thereby enhancing overall accessibility. The hospital remained unchanged.

The southern part of the town, located below the River Alannah, featured a mix of residential and natural elements in 1990. Trees and
several houses occupied the central zone, with a school located to their northwest and an airport with a parking lot in the southwest. A
railway station was positioned in the southeast, with a vertical railway line already extending southward from it. By 2010, the entire
woodland had been cleared. At the centre, a warehouse was constructed and surrounded by four factories, indicating a shift toward
industrialisation. The previous housing area in the east was replaced with a cluster of skyscrapers. In the far northeast, a marina was
built next to the existing railway station, and a bridge was constructed over the railway, further facilitating movement within the town.
Despite all these changes, the school, airport, and its car park remained intact. HUNG HOANG
The maps illustrate the alterations
that occurred in the waterfront area
of Darwin between 2009 and 2014.

Overall, the area underwent a

number of changes, the most
important of which are the
introduction of recreational and
educational facilities, as well as the
addition of residential buildings, at
the expense of former industrial
zones. These changes have
transformed this place into a more
community-focused and
environmentally friendly one.

In 2009, a convention centre was located in the north, with a school situated to the southwest of it. To the east of the school was
a central lake, surrounded by footpaths and a few trees. Two swimming pools were positioned to the east of the lake, and a
fishing area was located in the far northeast corner, along the coastline. The southern and central parts of the map were largely
occupied by two separate industrial zones. A small group of residential buildings was situated almost exactly in the middle of the
area, just below the lake. A footpath also ran through the centre, connecting the lake area to the sea.

By 2014, significant changes had been made to both industrial areas. The one to the north was replaced by a third swimming
pool, while the larger industrial zone in the south was transformed into a green area filled with trees and intersected by new
footpaths, indicating a shift towards being more environmentally friendly. The previous cluster of residential buildings was
expanded, with the number of houses doubling. A university building was constructed in the west, next to the new housing
blocks, occupying the space once used for industrial purposes. Meanwhile, a harbour was added in the southeast, directly
adjacent to the sea. Notably, the school, convention centre, lake, fishing area, and two original swimming pools all remained

unchanged..

between 1995 and the present.
Overall, the area has undergone a
marked transformation from a
predominantly rural and fishing-based
community into a more urbanised and
recreation-oriented locality. This
transition is characterised by the
expansion of housing, the introduction of
new amenities, and the complete
elimination of agricultural and fishing
activities.

Meanwhile, the western side featured a
residential area. A road cut diagonally
across the village, running from the

effectively separating these two zones.
The residential area itself comprised two
distinct sections—one stretched along
the main road, while the other was
enclosed by a smaller internal road.
