PRACTICAL ASSESSMENT TOOL

INSTRUCTIONS TO THE CANDIDATE

1. This unit of competence shall be assessed in three phases.


2. Each assessment session will take a given duration.

1. PROJECT BRIEF

In this assessment, candidates will demonstrate competence in interpreting building drawings,


setting out, masonry wall construction and oral knowledge related to masonry works. The
assessment is divided into two practical sessions and one oral session.

2. SECTION 1 (2 HOURS): SUBSTRUCTURE WORKS

Elements Covered:

1. Interpret Building Drawings


2. Set Out Building

Tasks:
The candidate is expected to:
1. Identify key symbols and set out three corners and two sides of a 2000mm × 2000mm
structure using the 3-4-5 method and profile boards as provided in the plan drawing.
2. SECTION 2 (2 HOURS): SUPERSTRUCTURE WALLING

Elements Covered:

1. Construct masonry walling

Tasks:
The candidate should:
1. Lay a four course of masonry wall using blocks/stones, ensuring level and plumb as
the drawing provided.
