SYLLABUS
Course: MICRO/PARA Total Number of Units:5 Units No. of Contact Hours/Week: 3 hours (Lecture)/6 hours (Lab)
Course Name: MICROBIOLOGY AND PARASITOLOGY Lecture: Lecture 3 hrs – Lab 6 hrs
Course Description: This course is designed to assist students in the study of important microorganisms and parasites. It explains the physiology and pathogenic properties of
bacteria, fungi, and viruses as an introduction to disease causation, their biology, the infections they cause, host response to these infections and their mode of transmission,
prevention, treatment, and nursing responsibilities. The laboratory experiences provide specimen collection, handling, and processing of specimens for isolation and
identification of microorganisms and parasites involved in the infectious processes.
Prerequisite: General Chemistry, Anatomy & Physiology
I. Course Objectives: At the end of the course and given simulated/actual situations/conditions, the student will be able to:
1. Apply the concepts and principles of microbiology and parasitology in the care of individuals.
2. Utilize principles and techniques in the collection, handling of specimens and identification of microorganisms and parasites involved in the infectious
processes.
II. Vision – Mission of the College of Health:
Vision
The College of Health envisions to prepare professionals who are God-loving, competent, and responsible practitioners in providing health care and technological services
and can function effectively for expanded and emerging role in any global setting where their orientation is practiced.
Mission
Guided by this vision, the College of Health is committed to form midwives’ graduates who are able to function in the first level position of nursing responsibilities in any
health setting like the hospital clinics and health centers, in the home and in the community. Student graduate as they develop their skills in planning, organizing, directing,
coordinating, supervisions, assisting or giving health care directly or indirectly.
Evidently, the institution and college purposes and objectives are clearly enunciated, these are disseminated through their publication in all the operational manuals of the
institution.
