3rd week reflection:

This week, we got to know our teacher and students more, which was fascinating since the desire for
being a teacher increased for me, studenrs are so lovely, they are now familiar wşth us and when we
walk inside of the classroom they greet us in a cheerful way.

First of all, before the lesson, he always checks students homeworks and most of the time students
do their homeworks. If they dont, teacher warns them. In 7/F teacher taught children simple past
tense in detail, he explained the rules. Students didnt have no difficulties in understanding. He
explained how to ask questions in simple present tense. As activity, they did choose one activity after
the grammar lesson. They had to draw a circle around the right word between two words. Overall in
every class, teacher makes sure that students understand the topics by activities, he uses listening
texts and uses smartboard tos tay interactive. He always makes sure that students understand the
topic, and students are not shy to ask questions. They are comfortable with their teacher. They know
he wont judge them for not knowing the topic. He encouraged his students when they made
mistakes. Also, before the lessons, he always summarizes the last topic for students to remember the
previous lesson.

4th week reflection:

This week, students were used to us and they did not stare at us directly anymore, in previous
lessons, they were staring at us like we are strangers but they were having conversations with us.
Also our teacher asked us to prepare quiz for 7/F. We prepared the quiz together with my teacher
learner friend, it was a bit hard to make since it was my first time preparing. We put 40 words for
students and asked them to write their Turkish meanings. We put some grammar questions about
simple present tense and prepared a word order activity.

This week, teacher taught quantifiers to students in 6/F. He taught where and how to use them. He
also taught how to use much, many and countable-uncountable nouns. While some students
understood well, some of them were confused but teacher explained in detail. He used Turkish a lot
while explaining. In 7/F, teacher summarized frequency adverbs, he explained frequency adverbs
with examples, sentences. He did question and answer with students to check if they understood the
topic. In 5/B, teacher tries to use activities a lot rather than teaching grammar, children love playing
games a lot so thats why teacher combines games and lesson together.

5th week reflection:

This week, Selçuk teacher summarized frequency adverbs since the students seemed to make
mistakes often, he talked more about frequency adverbs in 7f. Meanwhile in 5th grade, he taught
everyday english combined with can and can’t. He wrote words about everyday life and students
took notes. He asked questions like ‘ What can I do’ about sports and hobbies. In both classes,
participation is great, every student seem to be engaged. From what I observed, I learned that
listening texts are very effective for students, they pay attention. Also, the teacher asks lots of
questions. Some students are afraid to make mistakes, so they dont usually speak. However, most of
them are eager to answer and when a student makes mistake, the teacher waits fort hem to end
their speech and repeats their sentence in the correct form, thats how children realize where did
they made a mistake. Also, this week, me and my teacher learner friend Betül performed in class. It
was pretty exciting for someone like me who does not have any experience in a crowded classroom. I
was so excited and students could tell, but they supported me anyway, they were pretty fascinated
by my activities.

Self reflection:

To start with, I can say that the way I handled the classroom was weak. Students were loud, they
were almost screaming to get my attention. I taught about the topic ‘yummy breakfast’ I taught the
words first, which are about the foods that we eat at breakfast, and like/don’t like. Before I started I
asked a question as a warm up, ‘What do you have for breakfast’, I chose between them, especially
the ones who seemed uninterested. Most of them answered in English, when they made a mistake, I
followed the teachers technique, I waited fort hem to finish their sentence and repeated it in the
correct form. As an activity, I put empty plastic plates on the board and wrote random foods under
each plate and I also had their pictures on the desk. I asked each student to put the right Picture into
the right plate. I could say students liked the activity so much since after the activity, some students
told me it was so fun, all of them wanted to participate. Then, I talked about like/don’t like
sentences, I wrote examples on the board and wanted them to write 3 like 3 dont like sentences on
their notebook. To the ones who did it, I put stickers on their notebook. I corrected their mistakes
individually, without making them feel bad. I tried to be as friendly as possible but I was too afraid to
stop them from making noises, I was not able silence them.
