through photosynthesis.
(a) Both A and R are true, and R is the correct explanation of A.
(b) Both A and R are true, but R is not the correct explanation of A.
(c) A is true, but R is false.
(d) A is false, but R is true.

28. Read the passage and answer the following questions:
Read the following passage and answer the questions:
Some plants and organisms depend on each other for survival in a relationship called
symbiosis. In lichens, a fungus and an alga live together: the fungus provides water and
minerals, while the alga makes food through photosynthesis. Similarly, leguminous
plants like peas and beans have Rhizobium bacteria in their root nodules that help fix
atmospheric nitrogen, and in return, the plant provides shelter and food to the bacteria.
Answer the following questions:
(a) What is symbiotic nutrition?
(b) Name the two organisms that form a lichen.
(c) How do Rhizobium bacteria benefit plants?
(d) Give one example of a symbiotic relationship in plants.
29. Read the passage and answer the following questions:
Acids and bases are important substances in our daily life. Vinegar contains acetic acid, and
soap is basic. Indicators like litmus help identify acids and bases.
(a) Name the acid in lemon.
(b) Which property of bases makes soap slippery?
(c) What is an indicator?
(d) Give one example of a natural indicator.
30. Read the passage and answer the following questions:
Heat energy is transferred by three modes: conduction, convection, and radiation. Metals
are good conductors of heat, whereas air is a poor conductor.
(a) Name the three modes of heat transfer.
(b) Which materials are good conductors of heat?
(c) Why is air a poor conductor?
(d) Give one example where convection is used.
