FIRE EXTINGUISHING SYSTEM
1. INTRODUCTION
The security conception considered for the project, regarding protection against
fires, is primarily based on the requirements of national legislation, such as the
National Building Regulations, Standard A.130, as well as the codes and standards of the
NFPA.
It is worth mentioning that this document outlines the minimum parameters that must be met.
in the installation and equipment of the fire protection system, in accordance with what is stipulated in the
current regulations.
It is extremely important that the contractor responsible for the installation of the system against
fires know the applicable NFPA standards and the operation of the installed system.
In addition to having experience installing equivalent systems and employing good practices of
installation.
OBJECTIVES
The goal of the fire protection system is to provide a degree of protection to the property and
life, based on internationally recognized standards of prestige and reliability.
the protection provided by this system is closely related to the evacuation systems,
fire detection and alarm.
Determine the capacity of the fire pump and develop the plans for
installation of the pumping system according to the requirements indicated in the standard
from NFPA 20.
Determine the necessary water reserve volume in the tank to supply the
private network of the projected fire protection system.
Specify the characteristics of the equipment and accessories that will be used for the
implementation of the fire protection system.

The scope of this project consists of the design of the fire protection system for the
warehouse of rings and metal shafts.
The sizing of the protection system has been developed under the criteria
established in the National Building Regulations (RNE) - Standard A.130 and the codes

following systems:
2. DEFINITIONS
Fire:
It is an uncontrolled fire occurrence in time and space, which can be
extremely dangerous for people and property.
Fire
This is called the violent oxidation process of a combustible material, resulting in the release of
of llama, heat, and gases.
Merchandise:
Goods, products, raw materials, and supplies, including packaging material and containers,
which determine the classification of the merchandise.
Class I merchandise:
Non-combustible goods that meet the following characteristics:
They are stored on grills or pallets.
They are stored in simple lines of corrugated cardboard with or without cardboard dividers.
(with or without grills or pallets).
They are packaged in vacuum-sealed wrappers or in paper (with or without grills or slats)

Incombustible
Not susceptible to burning under specified test conditions.
Non-combustible material:
That material that cannot burn or ignite, such as those made of steel,
iron, clay (bricks, tiles, etc.), concrete, slate, glass, plaster, stone, earth (adobe) and others
approved by a Peruvian Technical Standard or in the absence of this, an international technical standard of
recognized use.
Firefighting equipment:
Set of devices and equipment used for prevention, control, and combat of
fires. These devices are found inside fire cabinets, for example
the hose and the python.
3. SYSTEM DESCRIPTION
This chapter has been developed with the purpose of describing the considerations of
design taken for the sizing of the fire protection system for the
warehouse of rings and metal axes.
There are well-defined areas by their content that will be classified as a light risk.
In this area of 330 m2, metal pieces will be stored which are materials not
fuels, for this area it is being considered to protect with hoses which
they will provide jets of water.

exclusive use for that system.
In order to meet the required demands, a pump has been selected that will provide a
flow rate of 250 gpm at 150 psi, driven by an electric motor.

In addition to all the pertinent considerations for a proper installation, care must be taken of the
aesthetic aspect, which will be achieved with a good alignment of the piping, correct installation
of the accessories, uniformity in supports and hangers, cleanliness, painting, among others.
The installer must be careful not to force the various components of the system in the process of
assembly, for example, aligning pipes or supports by adjusting the bolts to correct
misalignments. If any other accessory is needed to avoid these strains, the

The accessories for mountings must be in accordance with or exceed the following
specifications:
Other types of accessories and/or manufactured from materials other than those mentioned,
they must be listed for use in risers, installed according to their listing, both in
work pressure as flow.
All accessories must comply with item 4.3 of the NFPA 14 edition 2013 and item
