1. INTRODUCTION

This descriptive report specifies the minimum requirements to consider in

the installation of the water fire cabinet system for the ring and axle warehouse
metallic, located in the department of Lima.

The security conception considered for the project, regarding protection against
fires, is primarily based on the requirements of national legislation, such as the
National Building Regulations, Standard A.130, as well as the codes and standards of the
NFPA.

It is worth mentioning that this document outlines the minimum parameters that must be met.
in the installation and equipment of the fire protection system, in accordance with what is stipulated in the
current regulations.

It is extremely important that the contractor responsible for the installation of the system against
fires know the applicable NFPA standards and the operation of the installed system.
In addition to having experience installing equivalent systems and employing good practices of
installation.

OBJECTIVES

The goal of the fire protection system is to provide a degree of protection to the property and
life, based on internationally recognized standards of prestige and reliability.
the protection provided by this system is closely related to the evacuation systems,
fire detection and alarm.

The project aims to develop a reliable fire protection system.

for which the following systems have been projected:

Design a reliable water-based fire safety system.

fire cabinet in all fire hazard areas of the building according to the
NFPA 14 standard.

Determine the capacity of the fire pump and develop the plans for
installation of the pumping system according to the requirements indicated in the standard
from NFPA 20.

Determine the necessary water reserve volume in the tank to supply the
private network of the projected fire protection system.

Specify the characteristics of the equipment and accessories that will be used for the
implementation of the fire protection system.

1.2. SCOPE OF THE PROJECT

The scope of this project consists of the design of the fire protection system for the
warehouse of rings and metal shafts.

1.3. APPLICABLE CODES AND STANDARDS

The sizing of the protection system has been developed under the criteria
established in the National Building Regulations (RNE) - Standard A.130 and the codes
Applicable NFPA.

The references made to equipment and system installation in this document

they are referred to and must also comply with the following codes and standards:

NFPA 14: Standard for the Installation of Standpipe and Hose Systems – 2013 Edition
NFPA 20: Standard for the Installation of Centrifugal Fire Pump - Edition 2013
National Building Regulations - Standard A.130 - Chapter VIII and Chapter X.
FM Global DS 3-26. Fire Protection Water Demand for Nonstorage Sprinklered Properties

In this sense, the fire protection system will include the installation of the
following systems:

Firefighting water reserve.

Firefighting pump system for the corresponding use.
Riser system with valve outlets and fire cabinets.

2. DEFINITIONS

Fire:
It is an uncontrolled fire occurrence in time and space, which can be
extremely dangerous for people and property.
Fire
This is called the violent oxidation process of a combustible material, resulting in the release of
of llama, heat, and gases.
Merchandise:
Goods, products, raw materials, and supplies, including packaging material and containers,
which determine the classification of the merchandise.
Class I merchandise:
Non-combustible goods that meet the following characteristics:
They are stored on grills or pallets.
They are stored in simple lines of corrugated cardboard with or without cardboard dividers.
(with or without grills or pallets).
They are packaged in vacuum-sealed wrappers or in paper (with or without grills or slats)

Incombustible
Not susceptible to burning under specified test conditions.
Non-combustible material:
That material that cannot burn or ignite, such as those made of steel,
iron, clay (bricks, tiles, etc.), concrete, slate, glass, plaster, stone, earth (adobe) and others
approved by a Peruvian Technical Standard or in the absence of this, an international technical standard of
recognized use.
Firefighting equipment:
Set of devices and equipment used for prevention, control, and combat of
fires. These devices are found inside fire cabinets, for example
the hose and the python.

3. SYSTEM DESCRIPTION

This chapter has been developed with the purpose of describing the considerations of
design taken for the sizing of the fire protection system for the
warehouse of rings and metal axes.

The fire protection system designed includes the following:

Fire riser system with valved outlets and fire cabinets.
Water pumping system to the projected network.

3.1. DEFINITION OF RISKS

There are well-defined areas by their content that will be classified as a light risk.

3.1.1. WAREHOUSEAREAFOR RINGSAND METALAXLES

Storage area for metal rings for vehicles, made of alloy

steel and also aluminum, developed through injection and forging processes. These
materials are placed on wooden pallets which are arranged in
interim way for their later transfer to sales deposits.

In this area of 330 m2, metal pieces will be stored which are materials not
fuels, for this area it is being considered to protect with hoses which
they will provide jets of water.

3.1.2. VEHICLEAXLE STORAGEAREA

Storage area for vehicle axles made of steel, which

They generally undergo hardening heat treatment, this area of 260 m2 also
will store steel manufactured equipment.

3.1.3. MANEUVERING YARD

Area of 170 m2, designated for the maneuvers carried out by vehicles to position themselves.
suitably to proceed with the loading and unloading of materials for its
mobilization.

3.2. FIRE WATER RESERVE

The fire water reserve consists of using a tank exclusively for use
fire-fighting system located at level -4.20 meters. The cistern has been sized to
according to the risk requirement of the building.

250 gpm

Calculation of Required Water Volume:

250 GPM x 60 x 3.785 liters/gallon x 0.001 m³/liter = 56.8 m³

Therefore, a tank with a useful volume of 56.8 cubic meters of water is required.
exclusive use for that system.

3.3. PUMPING SYSTEM

The designed pumping system has been specified to operate automatically,

keeping the risers pressurized, cabinet systems, which means that this
the system will be able to act immediately when there is a water requirement, such as,
the opening of a fire control cabinet.

In order to meet the required demands, a pump has been selected that will provide a
flow rate of 250 gpm at 150 psi, driven by an electric motor.

The jockey pump must maintain the system at a minimum pressure by compensating for small fluctuations.
pressure decrements and avoiding unnecessary starts of the main pump.

In an emergency, the demand for water requested by any fire-fighting device

will cause a drop in pressure in the line, which will lead to the control panel of the
main pump start.

3.4. FIRE WATER NETWORK

3.4.1. FIRE FIGHTING TANK

mm, which supplies the cabinet systems of the fire protection system throughout the
building.

The fire system will have firefighter connections with 02 entries of

Ø65mm joined to a body of Ø100mm; The firefighter connection may supply a
additional flow from an external source to all fire protection systems
designed.

3.4.2. FIRE CABINET SYSTEM

The fire cabinet system is supplied from the riser against

fires, which is a Ø100mm pipe and has been sized to supply the
higher level.

The cabinets have been strategically placed in such a way that they meet the
protection coverage.

The cabinets to be used have been designated as type 'B'. The components and
The finishes of the cabinet are in accordance with what is indicated in the following item.
