Early Years Care & Education

Term-1 Assignment

Louielyn Alvarez Cruzado

Question 1:
Many children are impulsive, oppositional, and have inappropriate peer interactions.
How can early childhood educators use proactive approaches to prevent some of
the problems these children experience and create?

Kindergarten teachers face numerous challenges everyday while working with young
children. Children’s challenging behavior is one of the most difficult and exhausting parts of the
teacher. They often share that they are not sure what to do to help young children when they are
engaging in challenging behavior, such as physical aggression, throwing materials, and
disrupting the learning of other children.
There are proactive approaches that a teacher can use to prevent the problems like
offering choices empowers children, promotes independence, and reduces conflicts. Descriptive
praise encourages positive behaviours, and implementing reward systems helps reinforce
desired behaviours. Consistency in routines and language training can significantly impact
behaviour, particularly for children with language difficulties. These proactive strategies
provide valuable tools to foster positive outcomes.
First, I will focus on understanding the purpose of the kids challenging behavior,
recognizing early warning signs, record everything to ensure safety and to prevent further
escalation. Second, I will try positive reinforcement to the kid depending on my kid’s behavior.
Tangible rewards or activities can also serve as reinforcement. It is important to reward good
behaviors frequently and focus on the positive aspects of the student’s behavior. Being a role
model, setting clear rules, involving a child in the rule-making process, and delivering
immediate consequences for negative behaviours are all essential components of utilising
positive reinforcement effectively. Third, I will implement environmental modifications because
this can create an atmosphere that supports students’ individual needs and maximizes their
learning potential. Some children benefit from sensory rooms, which are a safe space for a child
to calm down and avoid behaviours of distress. Fourth, I will try some effective communication
strategies to express their needs appropriately. There are some children that may encounter
challenges conveying their thoughts, comprehending instructions, or interpreting non-verbal
cues like facial expressions and body language. Lastly I will I will engage the kids with social
skills training that will focus on developing essential skills such as effective communication,
active listening, conflict resolution, empathy, and assertiveness. Individuals gain confidence and
competence in navigating social situations through targeted exercises, role-playing scenarios,
and real-life practice.
Proactive strategies and techniques are important, compassionate and empathy between
teachers and kids receiving support truly makes a difference. This care involves understanding
and responding to each individual’s unique needs, emotions, and experiences. It requires
recognizing their strengths, limitations, and aspirations and tailoring proactive approaches
accordingly. As a teacher, I need to understand that each student in my class has unique needs,
and my approach should be centered around providing care that prioritizes well-being and
fosters positive outcomes.
Question 2:
You as a teacher need to counsel the parents on the following topics. Each answer
should not exceed 150 words.
a. First day separation anxiety

Going to school for the first time can be overwhelming for both the parent and the
kindergartener. As a teacher, I need to explain to the parents what they need to do during the first
day of school. Firstly, I will tell the parents to take the child for a visit in the school before the
first day. Secondly, let them know that whatever the kid is feeling is okay and normal. Thirdly, I
will explain to the parents to make up a special goodbye routine with the child like a special
handshake or phrase that only you and your child share when it is time to say, “goodbye. Next if
they are dropping their child off at school do not hesitate to leave, keep it short, and stay calm. Hug
your child, and say, “I love you. Be prepared for the fact that their child might cry, but have
confidence that the teachers know how to handle the situation. The more you drag out the good-bye,
the more painful it will be. Lastly, Make it an absolute first priority to be home or to pick up the
child at exactly the time that they said.

b. How to use computer effectively at home

I will explain to the parents the following tips:
1. Talk to the kids about the sites, applications and internet-enabled devices they
can use. It is important that the kid understand that the parents are there to talk to
and help if they see something they don’t like online.
2. Place the computer in an open space where the parents can watch what the
child is doing. This way the parents can control who they are taking to and how long
the child is on the computer.
3. Limit the amount of time the child spends online and ask them to take regular
breaks. To prevent eyestrain or other physical problems in the future. Their online
life should be part of a varied and healthy lifestyle.
3. Write lists of rules and guidelines for using the computer and internet. Show
them to the child, and make sure your child understands why there are rules.

c. Story telling as bed-time bonding

Bedtime stories have many benefits for kids – benefits that last well into adulthood.
There are many reasons why bedtime stories for kids are so beneficial. It helps
them relax, lower stress levels and develop bonds. It is also a great time for kids to
feel close to their parents or family. They feel loved and cared for during this quality
time. Engaging in bedtime stories allows children to experience various emotions
alongside the characters and it helps with vocabulary expansion with regular
exposure to various words and phrases in bedtime stories helps expand a child’s
vocabulary and helps them with comprehension critical thinking skill. Moreover, this
exposure enhances their narrative skills, encouraging them to create their own
stories and develop their imagination. Through shared moments of laughter,
imagination, and heartfelt connections, bedtime stories create a treasure trove of
memories that will last a lifetime. Finally, reading develop your child’s curiosity.
