3 × 5 = 15 Marks

1. Explain the role of Operations Management in the total management system.

Describe the significance of operations management in planning, coordinating, and
controlling resources effectively for achieving organisational goals.

2. Explain the relationship between Product Life Cycle and Process Life Cycle.
Illustrate how the evolution of products aligns with changes in production processes,
highlighting each stage with examples.

3. Six jobs are to be processed through two machines A and B in the same order. The
processing times are given below. Determine the total elapsed time and idle times using
Johnson’s Rule.

Job 1 2 3 4 5 6
Machine A 4 2 5 6 8 7
Machine B 3 8 6 6 4 1
Tasks:
- Determine optimal job sequence using Johnson’s Rule
- Compute total elapsed time
- Calculate idle time on Machines A and B

Assignment – II
UNIT – II: Answer the following questions (Each question carries five marks)
3 × 5 = 15 Marks
1. A company bottles soft drinks. The following data shows the sample means and ranges
for 10 samples of size 5. Using control chart constants, draw the X̄ -chart and R-chart.

3. Define EOQ. Explain various EOQ models.

Provide an overview of Economic Order Quantity (EOQ), its assumptions, and briefly
describe:
- Basic EOQ Model
- EOQ with Quantity Discounts
- EOQ with Shortages
- EOQ for Production Lot Sizes
