CHAPTER TWO
PERIOD OF ATTACHMENT
The attachment period lasted two months that begun on 10/9/2023 to 6/11/2023. I worked under
an internal supervisor in the building section and recorded in the logbook the daily activities and
weekly report on work carried out during the entire period.
OBJECTIVES
The objectives of my attachment were as follows:-
- To gain experience in my career of choice as a builder.
- To get exposed to the kind of equipment expected to find in the industry and to new
technological tools.
- To get the chance to put the knowledge gained at the college into practice.
- To make contacts with prospective future employers.
- To be well braced with the challenges that come with the career and learn ways of
dealing with the challenges or mitigating them.
- To enhance the good relationship between future employers and the college so that they
may contribute positively in bringing up competitive students for the job market.
- To market fellow department students at large as reliable employees innovative
individuals who are aggressive and ready to deliver at workplace.
BENEFITS OF THE ATTCHMENT
The attachment is aimed at creating a holistic being both theoretical and practically. I was able to
merge a bit of the theory from school with practicals.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES ASSIGNED
- mixing of ingredients (cement, sand, aggregate)
-plastering of walls
-wall construction
-roof construction
-keying
-taking measurements
-levelling and compaction

CHAPTER THREE
EXPERIENCE
In the two month attachment period I was able to learn how to take measurements of the house ,
erection of the boards, digging of the trenches, concreting, wall construction, slab concreting,
compaction and levelling, roof construction, wall plastering and floor finishes
GUIDANCE
The supervisor could demonstrate how to use the equipments, how to tie the rings ,protect
ourselves from injuries and to make ourselves faster in doing the given tasks
OBSERVATION
This method was implored during the first week on attachment in order to see how activities
were run in the building wors and also during field operation like tiles installation and repetition
of the same process later perfected the learnt skill.
5
EXPERIMENTAL LEARNING
The method was used enable student try out various equipment e.g.vibrators and mixers.
QUESTIONS
This method was used to obtain assistance when in difficulties in handling new equipment such
as mixers. It led to reviewing of the work done to ascertain accuracy.
INTERACTION
The method was put in practices to create interpersonal relationships at workplace and to learn
the channels of organizational communication and chains of command.
CHALLENGES
SERVICING OF MACHINES
Some of the machines are not frequently serviced as a maintenance requirement procedure, lack
of replacement or backup equipment in case of faulty hence posing a risk of breakdown or in –
efficiency in time of need.
RECOGNITION OF FLAWS
This method was used to express willingness to learn and it encouraged my supervisor to impact
more knowledge.
6
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS ACQUIRED

CHAPTER FOUR
CONCLUSION
The two month attachment exposes student to a hand – on approach to the skills learnt in
Kimasian TVC and prepares them to the work environment. It is a good way of practicing and it
nurtures one into a prepared individual when it comes to tackling challenges, performing tasks
and interacting with fellow employees. It is a good opportunity to test one’s preparedness to
undertake the demands of the chosen career and to shape them up. Therefore every student
should practice the attachment.
RECOMMENDATION
The equipment and machine in building technology department should be improved. As we
know we are in a digital world. This would ensure every student is able to coped up with
emerging new trends when it comes to digital world of building .
Student taking building technology should also have a chance to come up or design their own
buildings. Since engineering career comes as package that requires one to be creative and
innovative apart from having theory and practical knowledge.
Asides from the practical lessons we have in the department hey should be made a day say once
per term and probably building students should visit the building companies for orientation
before the attachment period just to have clue of what take place in there.
