PARALLEL

OPERATION OF
SYNCHRONOUS
GENERATORS

Presented by: Saikat Haldar

ID: 0242220005131125
WHY PARALLEL
OPERATION?

• Improves reliability: If one

generator fails, the others can
continue to supply power.
• Enables load sharing: Generators
can be brought online or taken
offline to meet varying load
demands.
• Allows for system expansion:
Additional generators can be
easily integrated into the system
as needed.
SYNCHRONIZATION
CONDITIONS

• Voltage: The terminal voltage of

the incoming generator must match
the voltage of the power system.
• Frequency: The frequency of the
incoming generator must be
identical to the frequency of the
power system.
• Phase Sequence: The phase
sequence of the incoming generator
must be the same as the phase
sequence of the power system.
• Phase Angle: The phase angle of
the incoming generator's voltage
must be in sync with the phase
angle of the power system voltage.
CONCLUSION

• Parallel operation is crucial for reliable and

efficient power generation.
• It enhances system redundancy, enables load
sharing, and facilitates system expansion.
• Synchronization conditions ensure smooth and
stable operation.
