of performance skills to develop competent nurses.
Continuous and terminal evaluation of students
performance is done to assess their clinical competencies.
A “CHECKLIST” consists of a listing of steps, activities
or behaviour which observer records when an incident
occurs. A checklist enables the observer to note only
whether or not a trait or characteristics is present

 Make sure that each item is clearly yes or no , true or

false .

 Review the items independently.

UTILIZATION OF CHECKLIST

whether a particular traits or characteristics is present or

of trait.

 Clearlyspecify the trait or characteristic of behaviour to be

observed.
UTILIZATION OF CHECKLIST…..

 Observe only one student at a time and confine your

observation to the point specified in the checklist.

 Have a separate checklist for each student individual

observation can be recorded on a master checklist.

 The observer must be trained how to observe, what to

observe and how to record the observed behaviour.
ADVANTAGES
 It is a simple method to record observations .

 They are adaptable to most subject matter area.

activities that involves a procedure process and
some aspects of personal-social adjustment

 They allow inter individual comparisons to be

made on a common set of traits or characteristic.

 They objectively evaluate traits or characteristic.

DISADVANTAGE
A major limitation of checklist is that it does not indicate
quality of performance, so usefulness of checklist is
limited to procedure , activities, function, and specific
task.

 Onlya limited component of overall clinical performance
