COURSE DESCRIPTION
 Research 1 is an action research in the content or
pedagogy of science in any of the four areas:
Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Earth Science.
(CMO 75 s. 2017)
 This
0.6 pure lecture course is allotted 1.5 hours
per week.
COURSE REQUIREMENTS
These are the Requirements for the
course:
Pass all the Quizzes
Pass the Midterm and the Final Examinations
Participate actively in Class Discussions
Proposal Defense
Soft and Hard copies of your portfolio
containing the compilation of your outputs
GRADING SYSTEM
Midterm Grade
Midterm exam = 40%
Attendance = 5%
Recitation/ Class Participation = 20%
Quizzes = 25%
Home Based Requirements = 10%
Final Term Grade
Final exam= 40%
Attendance = 5%
Recitation/ Class Participation = 20%
Quizzes = 25%
Home Based Requirements = 10%
Final Grade = Midterm Grade (50%) + Final Term Grade (50%) = 100%
CLASSROOM EXPECTATIONS
1. Manage your time well. Schedule properly your time to do the
parts of your research needed to be presented weekly. Have your
planner or calendar of activities ready. Remember, you have to
accomplish everything for this semester. (Accountability,

2. Focus your attention. Make sure that you do things one at a time.
Prepare all the parts of your research as needed and on time. You
need to finish your research proposal within the time frame and
defend it within the semester to get a passing grade.

3. Give your best. In doing the tasks, target the highest standards
because you are a better student who wants to show your best. You
have the knowledge and skills that you need to finish your work with
high quality. I believe in you. (Accountability, Credibility,

4. Submit on Time. Always take note of the date of


submission of your requirements so that you will not
need to cram and will not have deductions for late
submission. (Accountability)
5. Be Confident. You are expected to do the following:
Follow the templates for the final documents to be
submitted. Be mindful of the spacing, font style and size,
margins, spelling, grammar, etc. The size of paper and
other specifications should be strictly followed to make
the compilations in your portfolio easier and better.

6. Work Independently. It is expected that you work on your
research on your own. You can ask help from others but do your
best to do it on your own first. (Accountability, Credibility

7. Motivate Yourself. Whatever knowledge or skill you are
gaining from this course will definitely help you in your career
and in your daily life activities. Enjoy what you are doing and

8. Contact Me. If in any part of the research you will need my help
and guidance, do not hesitate to contact me through our group
chat. Refrain from sending me personal messages. Remember, I
am here to ensure that we go through the completion of this

9. Be Prepared. Your grade is your sole responsibility. Earn
the good grade you deserve by coming to class prepared.
Complete your outputs before class so that you can present
them during our synchronous meetings. (Accountability,

10.Be Participative. Be ready and willing to participate in
classroom discussions. Contribute proactively to class
discussions. Do not hesitate to ask questions. Remember,
you came to school to learn. (Competence and

11.Be Punctual. Take note of the schedule you have to
enter our synchronous meetings in MS Teams. Once
the class has started, you will be considered late/absent.

12.Be Respectful. Any action that bothers another student or the
teacher, or any disruptive behavior in class, is considered
disrespectful. Demonstrate proper respect for teachers, your

ACADEMIC HONESTY AND CLASS CONDUCT
1. Plagiarism and other forms of intellectual dishonesty will not be
tolerated. An automatic grade of 5.00 will be given to submitted
homework, laboratory report and research.
GUIDELINES ON LATE SUBMISSION OF
REQUIREMENTS AND LATE EXAMINATIONS

1. The dates of the submission for all the requirements are


all indicated. Deductions will be given for every day of
late submission.
2. You
are only allowed to take missed examinations due
to approved absence. Please fill up the Request for
Special Examination before taking the missed exam.
TIPS ON HOW TO GO ON WITH YOUR
CLASS
Be sure to have a planner with you to make sure you are
reminded of the dates of submission and completion of
each module.
 Remember, you have other courses and other
requirements to comply for each. Don’t be overwhelmed.
 The Study Guides for each modules are the ones that you
have to study on your own and answer the
activities/exercises therein to get the needed points to
pass the course
HOW TO START WITH YOUR CLASS
 Start
with choosing your proposed research titles for the
next meeting. Prepare at least 3 Titles for your research
which may be on any Science content area: Biology,
Chemistry, Physics, or Earth Science.
 You
may have it either individually, by pairs, or a
maximum of 3 members in a group.
 Look for at least 10 Related Research Literatures and
at least 10 Related Studies both local and foreign within
the last 5 years.
 Review what you have learned about Research and ways
of gathering data and proper writing for publication, etc.
HOW TO START WITH YOUR CLASS
 The class should have one flash drive which will contain
all the consolidated outputs/portfolios labeled in each
folder individually, by group, and as a class, to be
submitted thru the section mayor at the end of the
semester to get the grades.
 Theoutputs for each Module must be presented during
the online synchronous meetings. Each one is expected
to do his/her outputs on time so as not to be
overwhelmed by the next outputs.
