Heavy Metal Icon Ozzy Osbourne Passes Away at 76
Heavy metal music legend and Black Sabbath frontman, Ozzy Osbourne, has passed away. Per The Hollywood Reporter, Osbourne’s family confirmed his passing in an official statement. Osbourne passed away earlier this morning at 76 years old.
The statement reads, “It is with more sadness than mere words can convey that we have to report that our beloved Ozzy Osbourne has passed away this morning. He was with his family and surrounded by love. We ask everyone to respect our family privacy at this time.”
Osbourne passed away just weeks after he performed his last show in Birmingham, England, earlier this month. The show saw him reunite with his Black Sabbath band, where he was also joined by a star-laden lineup that also included Metallica, Guns n’ Roses, and Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler. Black Sabbath also played a Back to the Beginning Concert last month in Birmingham, where Osbourne took to his throne and also played some of his all-time classics, including “Crazy Train” and “Iron Man.”
Osbourne was first inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as part of Black Sabbath in 2006. He later received his second induction as a solo artist in 2024. During his illustrious career, he sold more than 100 million records worldwide. He was inducted into the U.K. Music Hall of Fame both for his work in Black Sabbath and as a solo artist as well.
He’d been nicknamed Ozzy when he went to primary school. After starting his music career, he would eventually be dubbed “the prince of darkness.” Some of Black Sabbath’s classic tracks include hits such as “War Pigs,” “Iron Man,” and “Mama, I’m Coming Home.” After recording eight albums with Black Sabbath, Osbourne also embarked on a solo career, featuring such classic songs as “Crazy Train,” “Mr. Crowley,” and “Bark at the Moon.”
Osbourne and his family also became popular stars of reality TV with the hit reality series, The Osbournes, which debuted on MTV in 2002. The show ran four seasons and 52 episodes. The heavy metal rocker also had a longtime association with WWE, and he was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame as part of the Class of 2021. His legendary track, “War Pigs,” served as the theme for NXT TakeOver: WarGames.
Osbourne is survived by his wife Sharon, their daughters Aimee and Kelly, and son Jack, along with his biological son, Louis John, his adopted son Elliot Kingsley, and daughter Jessica Starshine, from his first marriage to Thelma Riley.
