AME and Wolters Kluwer aim to expand access to global medical research through new collaboration

The agreement broadens the reach of nearly 50 Open Access titles, contributing globally to over 5,000 articles

October 2, 2025 — Wolters Kluwer Health announced a new collaboration with AME Publishing Company, an Open Access publisher specializing in medical journals and books, headquartered in Hong Kong, China.

JSS is officially indexed by Emerging Sources Citation Index (ESCI)

On August 5, 2025, a confirmation letter reached the editorial office of Journal of Spine Surgery (JSS) that the journal met the selection criteria necessary to be included in the Emerging Sources Citation Index (ESCI). Articles published in JSS after 2023, beginning with 9(1), will be included in this prestigious database (Figure 1). JSS will receive its first impact factor (IF) in June 2026.

Journal of Spine Surgery 2024 CiteScore Released: 2.7

We are pleased to announce that the Journal of Spine Surgery (JSS) has achieved its 2024 CiteScore: 2.7, ranking 223 out of 568 journals in the Surgery category and 171 out of 332 journals in the Orthopedics and Sports Medicine category. This milestone underscores our ongoing commitment to publishing impactful research in the field.

JSS Annual Report 2024

We are pleased to present the 2024 Annual Report of Journal of Spine Surgery. Highlights from this year’s report include:

JSS has published 78 manuscripts, among which there are 43 Original Articles, 11 Review Articles. The pageviews of JSS have increased steadily, with a total of 351,157 hits.

We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to our editorial board members, guest editors, reviewers, authors and readers, and we look forward to continuing our work with you in the new year.

Beginning in September 2022, the Journal of Spine Surgery (JSS) adopted the Surgery Journal Editors Group (SJEG) joint statement and pledges to "strive for diversity in the peer review process and among the editorial boards and editorial leaders."

Journal of Spine Surgery (JSS) is now a member of Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE)

Starting from July 2021, AME Publishing Company is formally recognized a publisher member of Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and over 60 AME-published journals become a member of Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), as part of AME’s commitment to best practice in scholarly publishing. Journal of Spine Surgery (JSS) is among the list of COPE membership.

AME entered an official partnership with Publons to enhance wide-ranging recognition for reviewers

AME Publishing Company entered an official partnership with Publons, a product of Clarivate Analytic Company (which owns Web of Science, EndNote, ScholarOne, among many others), as of April 2020. Around 60 AME journals’ peer review systems are now integrated seamlessly into the Publons platform (https://publons.com/about/home). The partnership was done to recognize our expert peer reviewers spontaneously for their review contribution.

Implementation of transparent peer review at Journal of Spine Surgery (JSS)

With a commitment to openness and accountability, and to increase the level of transparency throughout our peer review process, our editorial office has decided to implement a transparent peer review process as an option for all manuscripts submitted to JSS from June 01, 2020.

Application of the CARE Guideline as reporting standard in the Journal of Spine Surgery

The Journal of Spine Surgery welcomes case reports which are supposed to report new observations of diseases, clinical findings or novel/unique treatment outcomes relevant to practitioners in the fields of medicine.

For completeness and transparency for published case reports, the Journal of Spine Surgery will apply the CARE guidelines (1) as reporting standards for case reports starting from October 16, 2019. For any submission of case report after the date:
