Motivation
A process that initiated by a physiological or psychological
deficiency or need that lead an individual to engage in goal-
related behavior.
Is getting people to do what you want them to do because
they want to do it.
Normally, motivation is used to make individual follow the
organization objectives.
Motivation theories
1- Need theories: describe the type of needs that must be
met in order to motivate individual such as (Maslow’s
hierarchy – Herzberg’ motivation hygiene theory or called
two-factor theory)
2- Process theories: help us understand the actual ways in
which someone can be motivated, it include(expectancy
theory- goal setting theory).
1- Needs theories of motivation
Maslow’s hierarchy of needs -1-1
Herzberg’s motivation -1-2
hygiene(two factor ) theory
2-Process theory
Expectancy theory (process theories of
motivation)
- Expectancy (Effort)
- Instrument (Performance)
- Valence (Reward)
Expectancy theory (process theories
of motivation) Cont.
This formula is simply stating that is, to be motivated you must think your targets are
achievable, you must clearly understand any reward you might receive, and you must
actually value the reward, the value of MF=0 if the value of any of these three perception
will equal to zero.
