Basics for Engineers
Course objective:
The objective of this course is to make the attendants familiar with the architecture, hardware
components, and Simatic Manager Software of the Siemens Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC).
The main components of the PLC system such as Input/Output modules’ clusters, commutation
interface cards, and main central Processing Units CPUs will be covered in details. In Siemens PLC
system (SIMATIC S7) the S7 300-400’ series are explained, and the features of those programmable
controllers will be also covered.
Another PLC system such as; MODICON TSX-3710 (the Telemechanic product), will be also
outlined. The main differences between the Distributed Control System (DCS) and the PLCs will be
outlined.

CLOSED LOOP CONTROL CONCEPTS AND POWER SUPPLIES OF PLC:
• S7-300/400 Programmable Logic Controllers System Architecture.
• Analog I/O Concepts & Logic Flow (Typical continuous control loop / Analog Modules).
• Digital I/O Concepts & Logic Flow (Typical Discrete control loop /Discrete Modules).
• PLC power supply.

NUMBERING SYSTEMS & LOGIC OPERATIONS:
• Binary System and Basic Logic Operations.
• Advanced Logic Operations and Functions.
• Numbering System: Binary, Decimal, Hexadecimal, and conversion process.
• Memory Concepts: Bits, Bytes, Words, Double Words,…
