Day 2-Math 10 DLL

This document provides a lesson plan for a mathematics class on permutations and combinations for 10th grade students. The 50-minute class will cover illustrating combinations in real life situations, determining the number of ways a combination may occur, and valuing combinations in daily life. Activities include identifying situations as permutations or combinations, solving problems in groups, and answering assessment questions to evaluate learning. The lesson aims to help students use precise counting techniques and probability.

Grade Level Grade 10 – Zircon/Onyx/Citrine
Time Allotment 3:00 – 3:50 p.m. / 3:50 – 4:40 p.m./ 4:40-5:30 p.m. (50 minutes)
Performance Standards
The learner is able to use precise counting technique and probability in formulating conclusions and making
decisions.
Most Essential Learning Competencies (MELCs) and Objectives

Thelearnerillustratesthecombinationofobjects.(M10SP-IIIc-1)
At the end of the lesson the students should:
a. Illustrate combination of objects in real life situation.
b. Determine the number of ways a combination may occur.
c. Value the presence of combinations in our daily life.

ELICIT (IDEATE) MATERIALS

A.Preliminary Activities
1.Opening Prayer
2. Greetings
3.Checking of Attendance
4. Review:
What is our lesson last meeting? Unistructural

LOCALIZATION: Combinations is the number of ways of selecting from a set when the
order is not important. MNHS is a school located at Curvada Minuyan
Norzagaray, Bulacan. Students are randomly distributed into different
sections.

 Unlocking of difficulties.
a . Combinations- the number of ways of selecting from a set when the
order is not important. laptop, tv, PowerPoint
b. n-factorial- product of positive integers from n and integers less than up presentation
to 1.

 HOTS QUESTION:
In what situation can you relate the word combination in real life situations?
Explain your answer. Relational

Lesson Proper:
Motivation:

1. “FACT OR BLUFF” Unistructural

Identify if the given situation is permutation or combination. If

permutation, say FACT, otherwise BLUFF.

1. You can arrange 3 students in 6 different arrangements.

2. Given 2 shirts and 3 pants. There are 5 different ways of matching it.
ENGAGE (EMPATHY)

DOST-SEI | Project STAR | 1

How do the situations differ from each other? Analyze the given situations below.
Situation 1.” My fruit salad is a combination of pineapples, melon and bananas”
Situation 2. “The combination of my ATM pin code is 4720”.
Situation 3. “An arrangement of Mathematics books, Science books, and English books
on a shelf”

EXPLORE (DEFINE)

Study the following situations. Then, answer the questions that follow.

1. Choosing 2 household chores to do before dinner

2. Selecting 5 basketball players out of 10 team members for the different positions
3. Choosing three of your classmates to attend your party
4. Picking 6 balls from a basket of 12 balls
5. Forming a committee of 5 members from 20 people laptop, tv, Power Point
presentation

Questions:
a. In the items above, identify which situations illustrate permutation and which
illustrate combination. Unistructural
b. How did you differentiate the situations that involve permutation from those
that involve combination? Relational

EXPLAIN (PROTOTYPE)

Who am I?

Identify which situations illustrate permutation and which illustrate

combination, then solve.
Manila Paper, Marker,
a. Determine the top five winners from 6 contestants (1,2,3,4,5,6) in a Scatchtape
mathematics quiz bee. Unistructural
b. Choosing 2 household chores to do before dinner from 4 different
chores (cooking, washing, marketing, scrubbing). Unistructural
c. Forming a committee of 4 members from 5 people (Alma, Brando,
Charlie, Dhana, Ella). Unistructural
d. Four people (Ivy, Cheska, Neil, Max) posting picture in a row.
Unistructural
ELABORATE
Group Activity PowerPoint
Let’s divide the class into three groups with the number of members Presentation
varying. You will be given different problems. Here are some
DOST-SEI | Project STAR | 2
problems which you can solve with your groupmates. After the time
given to answer, each group will choose a representative to present
their answer.

Think, Pair and Share!

1. Let us say there are three flavors of ice

cream: cheese, chocolate and vanilla.
We can have two scoops. How many variations will there be?
Unistructural

2. In how many ways can 6 students be seated in a row of 6 seats if 2

of the students insist on sitting beside each other? Unistructural

Combination is the number of ways of selecting from a set when the

order is not important.

Permutation refers to the different possible arrangement of sets of

objects.

The basic difference between a combination and a permutation is that

while the former is just a way of selecting something, the latter is a way
of selecting as well as arranging it.

Ok let’s start discussing your answer. Group representation please be

ready.

Thank you so much. Based on your presentations I can say that you
already master our lesson. Now let’s try to answer the assessment.

EVALUATE (TEST)

 Get one whole sheet of pad paper and answer the following questions.

Choose wisely, Choose

me!

Solve the following problems completely. (Choose a partner.)

1. Albert is a member of Cavite mountaineers. On his semestral break, the * Paper, ballpen,

( yellow, orange, red white, blue ) but he will only take 3 for the trip. In
how many different ways can he do this? Unistructural

2. Anna forgot the telephone number of Riza. All that she remembers is
that there are three 1’s, two 7’s, one 9 and one 4. How many possible
telephone number arrangements can be done? Unistructural

EXTEND

 Get your notebook and copy your assignment.

Study: Combination
1. What is the formula for finding the number of combinations taken
one at a time? Unistructural
2. What is the formula for finding the number of combinations taken Notebook
two at a time? Unistructural
3. What is the formula for finding the number of combinations taken
three at a time? Unistructural
4. What is the formula for finding the number of combinations taken
all at a time? Unistructural
