Geometry Basics

1. Understanding Shapes:

 A triangle is a three-sided polygon. It has three vertices and three angles.

 A quadrilateral is a four-sided polygon. It has four vertices and four angles.
 A circle is a shape with all points at the same distance from its centre.

2. Types of Triangles:

 An equilateral triangle has all sides of equal length.

 A triangle with all angles less than 90 degrees is called an acute triangle.

3. Types of Quadrilaterals:

 A rectangle has opposite sides equal, and all angles are 90 degrees.
 A parallelogram has opposite sides equal and parallel.
 A rhombus is a parallelogram with all sides equal in length.
 A trapezium has only one pair of opposite sides parallel.

4. Understanding Angles:

 The sum of the angles in a triangle is always 180 degrees.

 The sum of the angles in a quadrilateral is always 360 degrees.

5. Understanding Area and Perimeter:

 The area is the amount of space inside a shape.

 The perimeter is the distance around a shape.
 The area of a rectangle is given by the formula length x width.
 The area of a triangle is given by the formula 1/2 x base x height.
 The area of a square is given by the formula side x side.
 The area of a circle is given by the formula πr2. (pi x square of radius)

6. Understanding Circles:

 The radius of a circle is the distance from the centre of the circle to any point on the
circle.
 The diameter of a circle is twice the radius.
 The circumference of a circle is the distance around the circle and is given by the
formula 2πr. (2 x pi x radius)
