Planning for Graduation and Career: A Reflection on My Journey as a Computer Science Student

As I progress through my academic journey as a computer science student, I am reminded of the

importance of planning for graduation and career. In this reflection, I will outline my degree
requirements, discuss my excitement and concerns about upcoming classes, and identify the
transferable skills I have mastered and those I aim to develop.

My desired degree is a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science. To achieve this, I plan to take 3-4
classes per term. Based on my academic plan, it should take me approximately 8 terms to finish my
degree. I am excited about the prospect of completing my degree and starting my career as a computer
science professional.

I am looking forward to taking several classes that align with my interests and career goals. Specifically, I
am eager to take Data Structures and Algorithms, as well as Computer Systems. These classes will
provide me with a deeper understanding of efficient algorithms, data structures, and computer systems,
which are essential skills for a career in computer science. I am excited about the opportunity to apply
theoretical concepts to real-world problems and develop practical skills that will benefit me in my future
career.

However, I am also aware of the challenges that lie ahead. I am a little nervous about taking Computer
Networks and Database Systems, as these classes deal with complex protocols and architectures.
Nevertheless, I am confident that with dedication and hard work, I will be able to overcome these
challenges and excel in these classes.

In addition to academic preparation, I recognize the importance of developing transferable skills that are
valuable in the workplace. After reviewing Section 12.2 and Section 12.3 from College Success, I have
identified five transferable skills that I believe I have mastered. These skills include critical thinking,
problem-solving, communication, teamwork, and time management. I have applied these skills in
various academic and personal projects, and I am confident that they will serve me well in my future
career.

However, I am also aware of the need to continue developing new skills. Five skills that I think are
important to my career that I have not mastered yet include leadership, public speaking, adaptability,
data analysis, and entrepreneurship. To develop these skills, I plan to take on leadership roles in group
projects, join a debate club or take a public speaking course, participate in hackathons and coding
challenges, take courses in data analysis and machine learning, and attend entrepreneurship workshops
and seminars.

In conclusion, planning for graduation and career is a crucial aspect of my academic journey. By outlining
my degree requirements, identifying my strengths and weaknesses, and developing transferable skills, I
am confident that I will be well-prepared for a successful career in computer science.
