Pay Range: $27-33 hourly rate based on experience
Summary
The Utah Museum of Contemporary Art is looking for a proactive, self-starting Grant Writer with experience in
fundraising, development, and grant management.This roles works closely with the Executive Director and
Development Strategist to support and expand the Museum’s fundraising initiatives and is responsible for
managing and growing the Museum's portfolio of annual grants.
The ideal candidate will have strong writing skills, with the ability to craft clear, persuasive proposals that align
with the Museum’s mission and funding goals. This position will oversee all aspects of the grant process,
including developing and managing a schedule for proposals and reports, renewing existing grants and
sponsorships, researching new corporate and foundation prospects, and ensuring compliance with all grant
requirements. In addition to grants, this position will also review, draft, and edit additional writing projects for the
organization. Meeting deadlines for submissions and reports will be a key part of the role and the Grant Writer
will set monthly, quarterly, and annual development goals.
Key Responsibilities:
Research and Identify Funding Opportunities:
Conduct thorough research to identify potential grant opportunities from foundations, government agencies,
and other funding sources aligned with the museum’s mission, and produce a grant research report to harvest
potential expanded grants.
Proposal Development:
Write compelling grant proposals that articulate the museum’s vision, programs, and impact. Ensure all
proposals meet funder guidelines and deadlines.
o Collaboration:
Work closely with museum staff, including curator, educator, accounting, and the development, to gather
necessary information and data for proposals. Communicates regularly with Museum team members and
others as needed to ensure a transparent process throughout the life cycle of the grant or sponsorship,
from submission to close.
Grant Management:
Maintain a tracking system for all grant applications, including deadlines, funding amounts, and reporting
requirements. Follow up on submitted proposals as needed.
Reporting and Evaluation:
Assist in preparing progress reports for funders, detailing the impact of funded projects and ensuring
compliance with grant requirements. In connection with education and visitor services departments,
collects program data, outcomes, and success stories that can be shared with funders and other
stakeholders as appropriate.
Stay Informed:
Keep abreast of trends in contemporary art, fundraising strategies, and grant-making practices to enhance
proposal effectiveness.
Events and other team support:
Attend in person UMOCA openings and help support collective museum efforts through various duties, serve
as an ambassador for the organization.
Fundraiser assistance and other Development support:
Assist in the production of our annual gala along with the Manager of Operations, Event Planner, and
Development Stratgist. Serve on the gala committee and assist where needed.
Support for Other Writing Projects:
Assist with various writing projects, including but not limited to:
o Exhibition text copyediting and proofreading, including book publication
o Annual report writing and editing in collaboration with the marketing team
o Newsletter writing and editing in collaboration with marketing (3-4 times per year)
o Other writing projects as assigned
Other duties as assigned
Financial Accountability
As part of the Development Team, this position supports and assists the Development Strategist and
the Executive Director in fundraising efforts towards $1.5 million annual operating budget through a
variety of efforts including foundations, government gifts, corporate sponsorships, memberships, and
individual giving.
