Reflection
The purpose that encourages me to pursue a Business degree is that I want
to explore a career that is relatively unfamiliar not just to myself but also to
other people in my family. Growing up, I was surrounded by people who
worked in various non-business fields, so choosing a business degree
represents both an opportunity and a challenge to navigate a new sector. I
have always wondered what it feels like to work in a business environment,
and this curiosity has motivated me to step out of my comfort zone and
delve into an area that has the potential for me to explore diverse
dimensions of opportunities.

Furthermore, one of my greatest passions is travelling and I believe that my

Business degree will help me reach this dream by giving me the tools to
engage with global markets, work across borders and discover different
cultures. The business world offers me a way to combine my life for travel
with a career that takes me to various parts of the world. I believe that
through my studies, I will gain knowledge and skills that will enable me to
pursue work in global settings, whether that involves cross-border trade,
working for multinational companies or leading international projects. The
dream of travelling the world and building an international career plays a
crucial role in motivating me to succeed in my Business career.

Based on the VIA Character Strengths Survey, one of my key strengths is

Humility. This strength reflects a trait that I keep close to my heart - I tend to
let my achievements speak for themselves rather than boast about them. I
believe in proving myself through action rather than words, which resonates
deeply with the way I approach academic challenges. Humility allows me to
stay grounded, focus on self-improvement and learn from people around me.
I am not someone who is keen on seeking the spotlight but instead, I find
satisfaction in contributing to the success of a team or project in a way that
is meaningful and impactful. I believe that embracing humility allows me to
foster a cooperative and encouraging environment for my peers and
colleagues.

My leadership style is a mix of Democratic and Facilitative. I deeply value the

opinions of others, and I believe that one of the most important aspects of
being a leader is listening. Rather than disposing of my ideas or dominating
discussions, I encourage open communication and collaboration. Democratic
leadership style allows me to involve my teammates in decision-making

processes, making sure that their voices are heard, and their contributions
are valued. At the same time, I tend to be facilitative. I would do my best to
support and guide my team members so that they can perform at their best
abilities. I enjoy helping others find solutions and achieve their goals, which
aligns with my desire to foster a collaborative working environment.

Reflecting on my performance in my recent team project, I would say that I

put forth my best effort to fulfil my assigned responsibilities. I made sure to
meet all deadlines and approached my tasks with diligence and
commitment. While completing individual assignments is important, I realize
that teamwork is about much more than just doing my part, it is about
contributing to the overall success of the team. Through the team
assessment, I face several issues regarding both teammates and the team’s
productivity aspects. I have learnt several lessons from those. Even though
the working process of my team is still not as effective as I would have
expected, this left me with some valuable experience in working with a team
in the future.

When considering the global issues that matter the most to me,
the environment ranks at the top of the list. One of the issues that I care
deeply about is the rising sea level. Climate change has led to a significant
increase in sea levels over the past century, with estimates from Fox-Kemper
et al. (2021) indicating that the global mean sea level has risen by 15-25
centimeters from 1901 to 2018, with an increase of 2.3 mm per year since
the 1970s. Rising sea levels threaten coastal communities, ecosystems, and
even entire nations. Low-lying countries like the Maldives and Tuvalu face
the very real possibility of being submerged in the coming decades, while
coastal cities worldwide such as Jakarta or Ho Chi Minh City are increasingly
at risk of flooding and erosion. I am particularly drawn to this challenge
because it combines my interest in global issues with my passion for
sustainability and environmental preservation. As I progress in my studies, I
aim to develop skills and knowledge that will enable me to contribute to
solutions for this critical issue, perhaps through sustainable business
practices, supply chain management, or environmental advocacy.

Looking ahead, my journey at RMIT will involve several important steps. In

the near future, I must complete four Capstone Courses as part of my
Business degree before moving into my chosen major, which is Logistics and
Supply Chain. This major aligns with my interest in how goods, services and
information flow in the global marketplace, and it provides an opportunity to
engage with both the practical and strategic aspects of business operations.

4
Although I have not yet decided on a minor, I am considering two options
that will complement my major and provide me with a broader perspective
on business, such as International Business or Digital Marketing. I am also
excited about the extracurricular opportunities available at RMIT, including
clubs, projects and competitions related to my degree. I believe that
engaging in these activities will not only allow me to participate in applying
the knowledge I gain in class but also provide me with a platform to
demonstrate my strengths in a real-world environment.
