the mass communication through physical objects
such as radio, television, computers, film, etc. It also
refers to any physical object used to communicate
messages
MEDIA LITERACY
❑The ability to access, analyze, evaluate, and create media in a
variety of forms. It aims to empower citizens by providing them
with the competencies (knowledge and skills) necessary to
engage with traditional media and new technologies.
❑ Media literacy involves understanding how media messages
are created and how they influence individuals and society.
INFORMATION
❑A broad term that covers processed data, knowledge derived
from study, experience, instruction, signals or symbols.
INFORMATION LITERACY
The ability to recognize when information is needed, and
to locate, evaluate, and effectively communicate
information in its various formats.
TECHNOLOGY (DIGITAL) LITERACY
❑The ability of an individual, either working independently or
with others, to responsibly, appropriately, and
effectively use technological tools.
❑ Technology literacy helps you navigate the modern
world, solve problems, communicate, and stay informed in
a technology-driven society.
MEDIA & INFORMATION LITERACY
❑ The essential skills and competencies that allow
individuals to engage with media and other
information providers effectively, as well as develop
critical thinking and life-long learning skills to
socialize and become active citizens.
MIL PURPOSE
❑ The main purpose of media and information
literacy (MIL) is to help people navigate and
interact with the vast amounts of media and
information in today’s world in a smart, critical,
and ethical way.
MIL IMPORTANCE
1. Critical thinking: MIL helps you think critically about the messages you
consume.
2. Informed decision-making: it enables you to make well-informed
decisions in daily life.
3. Combat misinformation: mil teaches you to identify false or misleading
information, ensuring you don’t fall for scams or incorrect facts.
4. Effective communication: it enhances your ability to create your own
media content (like blog posts, videos, and social media posts) in a clear,
responsible, and effective way.
