Third Quarter Module 8
Week 8
1
Introductory Message
For the facilitator:
This module was collaboratively designed, developed and evaluated by the
Development and Quality Assurance Teams of SDO TAPAT to assist you in helping
the learners meet the standards set by the K to 12 Curriculum while overcoming their
personal, social, and economic constraints in schooling.
As a facilitator, you are expected to orient the learners on how to use this module.
You also need to keep track of the learners' progress while allowing them to manage
their own learning. Furthermore, you are expected to encourage and assist the
learners as they do the tasks included in the module.
For the learner:
This module was designed to provide you with fun and meaningful opportunities for
guided and independent learning at your own pace and time. You will be enabled to
process the contents of the learning resource while being an active learner.
The following are some reminders in using this module:
1. Use the module with care. Do not put unnecessary mark/s on any part of the
module. Use a separate sheet of paper in answering the exercises.
2. Don’t forget to answer What am I good at? before moving on to the other
activities included in the module.
3. Read the instruction carefully before doing each task.
4. Observe honesty and integrity in doing the tasks and checking your answers.
5. Finish the task at hand before proceeding to the next.
6. Return this module to your teacher/facilitator once you are through with it.
If you encounter any difficulty in answering the tasks in this module, do not
hesitate to consult your teacher or facilitator. Always bear in mind that you are
not alone.
We hope that through this material, you will experience meaningful learning and
gain deep understanding of the relevant competencies. You can do it!

What’s the meaning?
Let us visualize the problem.
How do you find the surface area solid figures?
A Cube is a box-shaped solid object that has six identical square faces.
A cube has 6 faces. The area of each face is Side x side since each side is
square. Multiply the area of one face by the number of faces which is 6 to get the
total surface area of the cube or Surface area of a cube is S x S x 6
13 cm
S.A = S x S x 6
= 13 cm x 13 cm x 6
= 1,014 cm²
Pyramid is a polyhedron having for its base a polygon and for faces triangles with a common
vertex
The total surface area of a regular pyramid is the sum of the areas of its
lateral faces and its base.
14cm
9cm
5
S.A of square pyramid
Base = S x S (square) + Lateral faces = ½(BxH) x 4
S.A = 9 cm x 9 cm + ½ (9cm x14 cm)4
S.A = 81 cm² + ½ (126) 4
= 81 cm² + 252 cm² = 333 cm²
PRISM is a solid having bases or ends that are parallel, congruent polygons and sides that
are parallelograms.
• To find the total surface area of a prism, you need to calculate the area of two
polygonal bases, i.e., the top face and bottom face.
• And then calculate the area of lateral faces connecting the bases.
11 • Add up the area of the two bases and the area of the lateral faces to get the
inches
total surface area of a prism.
S. A of a square pyramid = Area of the Bases +Area of the Lateral faces
6
inches
Base = 2 (S x S) + lateral faces =4(l x W)
S. A = 2 (6 inches x 6 inches) + 4(11 inches x 6 inches)
S. A = 2(36 inches²) + 4(66 inches²)
= 72 inches²+ 264 inches² = 336 inches
SPHERE is a 3-dimensional object shaped like a ball. Every point on the surface is the same
distance from the center.
Surface Area of a Sphere = 4 × π × r2
16 cm S. A = 4 x 3.14 x 8 cm²
S. A = 12.56 x 81 cm²
S. A = 1,017.36 cm²
CYLINDER is a three-dimensional figure with two circular bases parallel to each other and a
8 cm
curved surface.
to find the Base Area (B) and Curved Surface Area (CSA). Therefore, the
12 cm surface area or the total surface of a cylinder is equal to the sum of the base
area times two and the area of the curved surface.
Surface Area of a Cylinder = 2πr² + 2πrh
S. A = 2 x 3.14 x 4cm² + 2 x 3.14 x 4cm x 12cm
S. A = 6.28 x 16cm² + 6.28 x 48cm²
S. A = 100.48 cm² + 301.44 cm² = 401.92 cm²
6
CONE is a distinctive three-dimensional geometric figure that has a flat surface and
a curved surface, pointed towards the top. The pointed end of the cone
is called the apex, whereas the flat surface is called the base.
10cm The surface area of a cone is the sum of the area of the slanted,
curved surface and area of the circular base.
10 cm S. A = Area of the Base (πr²) + Lateral Surface (πrl)
S.A = 3.14 x 5 cm x 5 cm + 3.14 x 5cm x 10 cm
S. A = 3.14 x 25 cm² + 3.14 x 50 cm²
S. A = 78.5 cm² + 157 cm² = 235.5 cm²
What’s more to do?

Column A
Column B
1. radius = 7 cm and slant height of 9 cm
A. 726 cm²
B. 153.86
2. Side = 11 cm
C. 480 cm²
3. radius of 6 cm
D. 452.16 cm²
E. 351. 68 cm²
