Introduction
National Service Scheme, IIT Roorkee is NSS chapter at IIT Roorkee. NSS is public service
program run by the Government of India. NSS IIT Roorkee is a platform at institute level
that aims to work for the betterment of society and instill the spirit of social service among
the young students. The organization works rigorously for community health care, literacy
drives, and environmental protection. Currently, NSS IIT Roorkee has around 1000 active
members from different disciplines working together to build up the society. As highlighted
by the motto 'Not for me, but for the Nation', we work together for all-round development
of the nation.

1. Udbhav: Swatantrata ka Sangrah

On the auspicious occasion of Independence Day, NSS IIT Roorkee orchestrated a

thought-provoking and engaging Quiz Competition titled "Udbhav: Swatantrata ka Sangrah"
in collaboration with various schools located in the vibrant city of Roorkee.

The meticulously planned event aimed to foster a sense of national pride and ignite the
spirit of freedom among the young minds of Roorkee. With great anticipation, NSS IIT
Roorkee extended invitations to numerous schools, spreading the message of the
competition far and wide.

The response from the schools and students surpassed all expectations, as an
astounding number of more than 1800 eager participants eagerly enrolled in the Quiz
Competition. The sheer enthusiasm displayed by these students showcased the
deep-seated love, respect, and devotion they hold for their motherland.
The competition itself was a vibrant and intellectually stimulating affair, featuring a
diverse range of questions encompassing various aspects of Indian history, culture,
freedom fighters, and significant milestones in the nation's journey towards
independence. The questions were meticulously crafted to challenge the participants'
knowledge and inspire them to delve deeper into the rich tapestry of India's struggle for
freedom.

Through this remarkable initiative, NSS IIT Roorkee demonstrated its dedication
towards nurturing the next generation of responsible citizens, imbuing them with a deep
sense of gratitude and a burning desire to contribute positively to their country's
progress.
 2. Plantation Drive

NSS IIT Roorkee holds an annual Plantation Drive as part of its mission to raise awareness
about the importance of greenery and environmental conservation. With unwavering
commitment, NSS IIT Roorkee consistently endeavours to foster a sense of responsibility
towards our natural surroundings.

This year, on the occasion of NSS Day, NSS IIT Roorkee organized a highly anticipated
Plantation Drive within the campus premises, creating a platform to celebrate and embrace
the beauty of nature. The event was graced by the honourable director of IIT Roorkee, who
attended as the esteemed chief guest, lending prestige and significance to the occasion.

The Plantation Drive witnessed an impressive turnout, with active participation from
college students as well as enthusiastic NSS Volunteers. This diverse collective of
individuals, driven by a shared passion for environmental sustainability, came together to
make a positive impact on the campus ecosystem.

As the Plantation Drive unfolded, the atmosphere brimmed with a sense of purpose and
collective action. The participants meticulously selected suitable locations for the plants,
ensuring optimal growth and aesthetic appeal. Each plant was carefully placed in the soil,
symbolizing a small but significant step towards a greener and more sustainable future.
The event proved to be an overwhelming success, with approximately 400 plants being
planted within the campus premises. The sheer number of plants showcased the
commitment and dedication of the participants, their efforts culminating in a tangible
transformation of the campus landscape.

The Plantation Drive served as a powerful reminder of the immense potential for positive
change that lies within our collective actions. It not only contributed to the overall green
cover of the campus but also instilled a sense of responsibility and ownership among the
participants towards the environment.

NSS IIT Roorkee, through this annual initiative, continues to play a pivotal role in nurturing
a generation of environmentally conscious individuals who understand the significance of
preserving and restoring the natural world. The Plantation Drive serves as a testament to
their commitment towards creating a sustainable and greener future for all.

3. Orphanage Visit by NSS Volunteers

On the momentous occasion of NSS Day, NSS IIT Roorkee organized a compassionate and
meaningful visit to Bal Kunj Orphanage. With a dedicated team of 20 enthusiastic
volunteers, the visit aimed to create a memorable experience for the children residing in
the orphanage.

Upon reaching Bal Kunj Orphanage, the NSS team set the stage for a day filled with
engaging activities and events. A vibrant painting competition was organized, providing an
outlet for the children to express their creativity and imagination through art. The
participants enthusiastically adorned canvases with colourful strokes, showcasing their
unique perspectives and talents.

To further stimulate the children's intellect and foster a spirit of healthy competition, a quiz
competition was conducted. The questions covered various subjects, encouraging the
children to showcase their knowledge and problem-solving abilities. The atmosphere was
brimming with excitement and anticipation as the children eagerly participated, showcasing
their enthusiasm for learning.
In addition to these enriching activities, the NSS team arranged a variety of fun-filled
events to create a joyful and lively atmosphere. These activities aimed to bring smiles to
the children's faces and create lasting memories. Laughter filled the air as the children
engaged in games, team activities, and interactive sessions, fostering a sense of
camaraderie and friendship among all participants.

Understanding the importance of nourishment, the NSS team distributed food packages to
the children. This gesture aimed to ensure their well-being and provide them with a
nutritious meal. The distribution of these food packages not only catered to their physical
needs but also conveyed a message of care, support, and solidarity.

Recognizing the power of literature to inspire and ignite imagination, the NSS team selected
a group of deserving students and gifted them with story books. This act not only aimed to
instil a love for reading but also provided the children with an opportunity to explore new
worlds and expand their horizons.

The visit to Bal Kunj Orphanage was a resounding success, leaving an indelible mark on the
hearts of both the NSS volunteers and the children. The event not only provided the
children with moments of joy and engagement but also served as a reminder of the power
of compassion and community outreach.

4. E-Waste Collection Campaign

“As the pace of technology increases, the amount of toxic electronic waste is piling up at
home and abroad.”

The rapid advancement of technology has led to a concerning issue of electronic waste
accumulation both domestically and globally. E-waste has emerged as a major
environmental concern, posing significant challenges for our planet. Recognizing the gravity
of this issue, NSS IIT Roorkee took proactive measures to address it. In conjunction with
the 5th International E-Waste Day on October 14th, NSS IIT Roorkee organized a
comprehensive campaign spanning from October 2nd to October 12th.

The primary objective of this campaign was to collect e-waste from various sources,
including households and institutions. By actively engaging in this initiative, NSS IIT
Roorkee aimed to raise awareness about the detrimental impact of e-waste on the
environment and encourage responsible disposal and recycling practices. This campaign
served as a significant step toward mitigating the adverse effects of e-waste and promoting
a sustainable future.
 5. Mind Over Matter

EmoAid, driven by a compelling vision, has embarked on a mission to revolutionize

emotional support within the community. Recognizing the vital importance of emotional
well-being, EmoAid strives to equip individuals with a range of first aid techniques and tools
that can provide immediate emotional support. By aiming to make emotional well-being
accessible to all, EmoAid's initiatives and services are designed to cater to diverse needs.

With a commitment to bringing emotional support to people's doorsteps, EmoAid offers an

array of services. These include comprehensive well-being programs, therapy sessions,
awareness workshops, internships, trainings, mental health clubs, camps, and the
integration of research. Through these initiatives, EmoAid aims to empower individuals by
providing them with the necessary knowledge, skills, and resources to navigate emotional
challenges effectively.

Recognizing the significance of mental health and the need for community engagement, NSS
IIT Roorkee collaborated with EmoAid to organize a notable event on October 9th, 2022.
This event specifically focused on raising awareness about mental health issues. It provided
a platform for dialogue, education, and support, fostering an environment where mental
health concerns could be openly discussed and understood.
Through this event, NSS IIT Roorkee and EmoAid aimed to highlight the importance of
mental well-being and reduce the stigma surrounding mental health issues. The event
featured informative sessions, interactive workshops, and engaging discussions led by
mental health professionals and experts. Attendees had the opportunity to gain valuable
insights, learn coping strategies, and acquire practical tools to promote their own mental
well-being and support others.

The collaboration between NSS IIT Roorkee and EmoAid underscored their shared
commitment to prioritizing mental health and building a supportive community. By
organizing this event, they sought to create an inclusive space where individuals could
come together, share experiences, and foster a sense of solidarity. Furthermore, it served
as a stepping stone toward advocating for mental health awareness, destigmatizing mental
health issues, and promoting a culture of empathy and support.
 6. An Interaction Session on Climate Issues and Gross Environment
Product by Dr. Anil Prakash Joshi

NSS IIT Roorkee took a proactive step towards addressing climate issues and promoting
environmental awareness by organizing a guest lecture on the subject. The esteemed
speaker for this event was Dr. Anil Prakash Joshi, a distinguished member of the Board of
Governors of IIT Roorkee. Dr. Joshi's expertise in environmental matters and his extensive
experience made him an ideal choice to share insights and knowledge on this crucial topic.

What made Dr. Joshi's presence even more remarkable was the unique circumstance
surrounding his journey to the event. He embarked on an extraordinary adventure by
choosing to travel from Mumbai to Dehradun solely by bicycle. This decision not only
demonstrated his personal commitment to sustainable living but also served as a powerful
symbol of the importance of adopting eco-friendly modes of transportation.
During the guest lecture, Dr. Joshi engaged the audience with his profound understanding
of climate issues and their impact on the environment. He shed light on the concept of
Gross Environment Product (GEP), emphasizing the need to measure the environmental
cost and impact alongside economic growth. Through his captivating presentation, he
highlighted the intricate relationship between economic development and its consequences
on the environment, urging individuals and communities to adopt sustainable practices for
a greener future.

NSS IIT Roorkee's initiative to organize this guest lecture exemplified our commitment to
environmental sustainability and our determination to educate and empower individuals to
become agents of change. By inviting an esteemed expert like Dr. Anil Prakash Joshi, we
provided an invaluable opportunity for the audience to engage with a renowned figure in
the field of environmental conservation and gain a deeper understanding of the challenges
and solutions surrounding climate issues.

7. Pragati: Free JEE Main Test Series

NSS IIT Roorkee, driven by its commitment to support and guide JEE Main aspirants of
2023, introduced an exciting initiative called "Pragati" - a free test series. This test series
was designed to provide a platform for aspiring students to assess their knowledge, identify
areas for improvement, and enhance their preparation for the upcoming JEE Main
examination.

The Pragati test series proved to be highly effective, with 15 students who enrolled in the
program successfully qualifying in JEE Main 2022, achieving an impressive score of more
than 90 percentile. This remarkable outcome showcased the significant impact of the test
series in helping students excel in their pursuit of admission to esteemed engineering
institutions.

The Pragati test series encompassed several notable features that contributed to its
success:-

Firstly, the tests were conducted online, allowing students to participate from the comfort of
their homes or any location with internet access. This ensured convenience and accessibility
for all participants, eliminating the need for travel or physical presence at a specific venue.
Secondly, to facilitate ease of participation, the tests were conducted using "Google Forms."
This platform not only ensured a seamless testing experience but also enabled students
with limited internet facilities or those possessing only mobile phones to take part in the
series. By leveraging a widely accessible platform, NSS IIT Roorkee aimed to create equal
opportunities for all aspiring students, irrespective of their technological resources.

The resounding success of the Pragati test series, evidenced by the outstanding
performance of the enrolled students, serves as a testament to the effectiveness and
impact of NSS IIT Roorkee's initiatives. This achievement not only highlights the potential
of free resources and online platforms in facilitating educational advancement but also
underscores the significance of mentorship and guidance in students' academic journeys.

NSS IIT Roorkee remains committed to empowering and supporting aspiring engineers, and
it is recommended that such initiatives continue to be organized in the future. These efforts
play a pivotal role in nurturing talent, encouraging academic excellence, and fostering a
culture of learning and growth among JEE Main aspirants.
 8. Campus MUN 1.0

NSS IIT Roorkee organized an engaging and intellectually stimulating event called Campus
MUN 1.O to commemorate National Youth Day. Model United Nations (MUN) is a simulation
where participants take on the roles of delegates representing different countries and
engage in diplomatic discussions to address global issues.

The Campus MUN 1.O was an exciting opportunity for students to enhance their knowledge,
develop critical thinking skills, and gain a deeper understanding of international affairs. The
event aimed to foster a sense of global citizenship, encourage diplomacy, and promote
active participation among young individuals.

Participants in Campus MUN 1.O assumed the roles of delegates from various countries,
each assigned to represent a specific nation's perspective on pertinent global issues. They
engaged in rigorous debates, negotiations, and collaborative discussions to draft resolutions
and address complex challenges.

The event provided a platform for participants to showcase their oratory skills, diplomacy,
and negotiation tactics. It fostered an environment where students could express their
ideas, advocate for their countries' interests, and work collectively towards finding solutions
to pressing global problems.

By organizing this event on National Youth Day, NSS IIT Roorkee recognized and celebrated
the potential and contributions of young individuals in shaping the world. The MUN served
as a platform to empower and engage the youth in meaningful discussions, encouraging
them to become active participants in global affairs and fostering their leadership skills.
 9. 34th National Road Safety Month

Webinar on Defensive Riding Techniques

To mark the National Road Safety Month 2023, NSS IIT Roorkee organized an impactful
event by hosting its inaugural Live Webinar. The webinar focused on the crucial topic of
"Defensive Riding Techniques" and was held in collaboration with Hero MotoCorp, a
renowned name in the automotive industry. The event took place on January 17th, 2023, at
6:30 PM, attracting participants from various backgrounds.

The primary objective of the webinar was to raise awareness about the importance of
defensive riding techniques and their role in ensuring road safety. With the increasing
number of road accidents and the need for preventive measures, NSS IIT Roorkee, in
partnership with Hero MotoCorp, aimed to educate participants about defensive riding
strategies that can minimize risks and enhance safety on the roads.
The webinar brought together experts in the field of road safety, including representatives
from Hero MotoCorp, who shared their insights and expertise on defensive riding
techniques. The session covered a wide range of topics, including defensive riding
principles, anticipating hazards, maintaining proper road etiquette, and utilizing safety gear
effectively.

By organizing this event during the National Road Safety Month, NSS IIT Roorkee
emphasized the significance of promoting safe practices on the roads. The collaboration
with Hero MotoCorp, a leading player in the automotive sector, added credibility and
expertise to the webinar, further enriching the learning experience for the participants.

The Live Webinar on "Defensive Riding Techniques" served as a stepping stone towards
building a culture of responsible and cautious riding among individuals. It aimed to instil a
sense of accountability, encouraging participants to prioritize their safety and that of others
while on the roads.

Mock Road Safety Audit

To commemorate the National Road Safety Month 2023, NSS IIT Roorkee organized a
unique and impactful initiative called the Mock Road Safety Audit. This
workshop-cum-project was conducted in collaboration with iRAP (International Road
Assessment Programme), a globally recognized organization dedicated to enhancing road
safety.
The Mock Road Safety Audit aimed to raise awareness about road safety and promote a
proactive approach to identifying and addressing potential hazards on roads. Through this
workshop-cum-project, participants had the opportunity to gain practical insights into road
safety assessment methodologies and contribute to improving the safety standards of road
infrastructure.

The collaboration with iRAP, an esteemed organization renowned for its expertise in road
safety assessment, added credibility and depth to the initiative. iRAP's involvement ensured
that the workshop adhered to international standards and best practices in road safety
auditing.

NSS IIT Roorkee's collaboration with iRAP for this workshop-cum-project demonstrated
their commitment to fostering a culture of road safety and promoting meaningful
engagement in addressing road-related challenges. By providing participants with a
comprehensive understanding of road safety audits, they aimed to instil a sense of
responsibility and equip individuals with the knowledge to make a positive impact in their
respective spheres.

Road Safety Quizzes

To commemorate the National Road Safety Month 2023, NSS IIT Roorkee organized an
engaging and educational activity in the form of quizzes. These quizzes focused on different
themes related to road safety, aiming to raise awareness and promote a culture of safe
practices among individuals.
The quizzes were designed to test participants' knowledge and understanding of various
aspects of road safety, including traffic rules, signs and signals, safe driving practices,
pedestrian safety, and the importance of wearing seat belts and helmets. By covering a
range of topics, the quizzes aimed to provide a comprehensive understanding of road safety
principles.

The quizzes conducted during the National Road Safety Month served as a reminder of the
shared responsibility we have in ensuring the safety of ourselves and others on the roads.
By testing participants' knowledge and creating a platform for learning and discussion, NSS
IIT Roorkee aimed to foster a culture of awareness and adherence to road safety
guidelines.
 Case study competition

In honor of the National Road Safety Month 2023, NSS IIT Roorkee organized an engaging
and thought-provoking event in the form of a case study competition. The competition
focused on a relevant and significant theme: "Parking problems in Metropolitan cities."

The objective of the case study competition was to address the pressing issue of parking
challenges faced in metropolitan cities and find innovative solutions to mitigate the
associated problems. Participants were encouraged to delve into the complexities of parking
management, considering factors such as limited space, growing vehicular population, and
increasing congestion.

The case study competition served as a platform for participants to learn from one another,
exchange ideas, and develop innovative perspectives on parking management in
metropolitan cities. It also encouraged interdisciplinary collaboration, as participants were
encouraged to consider various aspects, including infrastructure, technology, policy-making,
and public engagement, in their proposed solutions.

Workshops

A workshop was conducted in collaboration with Hero MotoCorp. The workshop covered
various techniques and aspects of safe driving. Along with this, the team showed the live
demonstrations to make the session livelier and more interesting.

 Slow Bike Racing

In a collaborative effort with Hero MotoCorp, NSS IIT Roorkee organized an exhilarating
event known as Slow Bike Racing. The event aimed to combine the excitement of racing
with a unique twist by challenging participants to showcase their skills in manoeuvring
bikes and scooters at slow speeds.

One notable aspect of the event was the provision of bikes and scooters at the venue itself.
This allowed all participants to have equal access to the necessary vehicles, regardless of
whether they owned one or not. This inclusivity promoted widespread participation and
ensured that everyone had an equal opportunity to take part in the thrilling racing
experience.

Ideathon

In commemoration of the National Road Safety Month 2023, NSS IIT Roorkee, in
collaboration with the Centre for Sustainability at RIM, organized a thought-provoking
and impactful Ideathon Competition. The competition focused on a critical theme: "Don't
Drive when Drunk," highlighting the significance of abstaining from alcohol consumption
before getting behind the wheel.

The objective of the Ideathon Competition was to raise awareness about the dangers of
driving under the influence of alcohol and to encourage participants to devise innovative
solutions to address this issue. Participants were invited to ideate and propose creative
strategies, campaigns, and interventions aimed at preventing drunk driving and
promoting responsible behavior among motorists.

This competition provided a platform for students to showcase their creativity, critical
thinking, and problem-solving skills while addressing a pressing societal concern.
Participants were encouraged to think holistically and consider various aspects, including
education, awareness, enforcement, and community engagement, in their proposed
solutions.
 A Webinar on Safe and Sustainable Transport

In honor of the National Road Safety Month 2023, NSS IIT Roorkee organized a captivating
live webinar focused on the theme of "Safe and sustainable transport: opportunities to
enhance population health and reduce road injuries." The webinar featured an esteemed
speaker, Prof Mark Stevenson from The University of Melbourne, Australia.

Prof Mark Stevenson, an expert in the field of road safety and population health, brought a
wealth of knowledge and experience to the webinar. His expertise provided participants
with valuable insights into the intersection of safe and sustainable transport, and its
potential to improve public health while reducing road injuries.

The webinar served as a platform for participants to engage in a thought-provoking

discussion on the multifaceted aspects of road safety, with a specific focus on the role of
sustainable transport solutions. Prof Stevenson highlighted the various opportunities and
strategies available to enhance population health and reduce road injuries through the
promotion of safe and sustainable transportation methods.

Through this webinar, NSS IIT Roorkee demonstrated its commitment to promoting road
safety and fostering informed dialogue on sustainable transport solutions. By engaging
with experts like Prof Mark Stevenson, they provided participants with access to expert
knowledge and international perspectives, encouraging them to think critically and explore
innovative approaches to road safety and transportation.

The success of the webinar not only showcased the relevance and importance of the topic
but also highlighted NSS IIT Roorkee's dedication to organizing educational events that
create meaningful impact. The interactive nature of the webinar allowed participants to
actively engage in discussions, ask questions, and gain valuable insights into the potential
synergies between safe and sustainable transport and population health.
 A Webinar on Road Safety: Individual Behaviour Matters

In honor of the National Road Safety Month 2023, NSS IIT Roorkee organized an engaging
live webinar under the theme "A discussion on Road Safety: Individual Behavior Matters."
The webinar featured two esteemed speakers, Dr. Meghna Verma, Head of the Department
of Marketing and International Business at Ramaiah Institute of Management in Bangalore,
and Dr. Malvika Dixit, Senior Analyst at Global Transportation Services in Amazon,
Luxembourg.

The webinar provided a platform for participants to delve into a comprehensive discussion
on the significance of individual behavior in ensuring road safety. With Dr. Meghna Verma's
expertise in the field of marketing and Dr. Malvika Dixit's experience in global
transportation services, the speakers brought diverse perspectives and insights to the
discussion.

During the webinar, Dr. Meghna Verma shared her insights on the role of human behavior,
attitude, and decision-making in contributing to road safety. Her expertise in marketing
added valuable insights into understanding individual behavior and its impact on road
safety measures. Dr. Malvika Dixit, with her experience in global transportation services,
provided a practical perspective on the challenges and solutions in promoting safe practices
on the road.

NSS IIT Roorkee's initiative to host this live webinar highlighted their commitment to
promoting road safety and engaging with experts from different domains. By bringing
together experts from academia and industry, they facilitated a dynamic and informative
discussion that encouraged participants to reflect on their own behaviours and contribute to
the collective effort of creating safer roads.

safety consciousness and responsible behavior among individuals. By spreading awareness
and knowledge, they contribute to the larger goal of reducing road accidents and creating
safer road environments for everyone.
 10. A Webinar on Farmed Animals and us

Recognizing the significance of nurturing and caring for all living beings, NSS IIT Roorkee
collaborated with FIAPO (Federation of Indian Animal Protection Organizations) to organize
an inspiring webinar. FIAPO, as India's leading organization and collective voice for the
animal rights movement, operates nationwide to advocate for the well-being of animals.

The webinar focused on two essential topics: "Farmed Animals and Us" and "Role of Youth
in protecting Street Animals." The esteemed speaker, Niyanth Vidi Gridharan, a talented
musician and entertainer who has received training at KM Music Conservatory and
Middlesex University, also happens to be an animal rights and vegan activist.

Through this webinar, Mr. Gridharan enlightened participants about the intricate
relationship between humans and farmed animals. He shed light on the importance of
understanding and improving this relationship, emphasizing the significance of
compassion and ethical treatment towards these animals who play a crucial role in our
lives.

Furthermore, the webinar addressed the role of youth in safeguarding street animals. Mr.
Gridharan highlighted the power of the younger generation in creating positive change
and shared insights on how they can actively contribute to the protection and welfare of

 11. Desh ka Maan: Samvidhan

"The great aim of education is not knowledge but action." This quote encapsulates the
essence of NSS IIT Roorkee's initiative as they transformed their plans into tangible
action. The organization took the initiative to conduct Painting and Quiz Competitions in
six different schools of Roorkee, spanning from grade 1 to 8. The competitions aimed to
engage and inspire young minds, encouraging them to reflect on the theme of "Desh ka
Maan: Samvidhan", which emphasized the importance of honouring and understanding
the constitution of our nation.

The Painting and Quiz Competitions served as a platform for students to showcase their
creativity, critical thinking, and knowledge. By participating in these activities, students
were not only able to express their artistic abilities but also deepen their understanding
of the significance of the constitution in shaping our country's values, principles, and
rights.

The theme, "Desh ka Maan: Samvidhan", not only ignited creativity but also prompted
students to delve into the rich history, values, and ideals enshrined in our constitution. It
stimulated critical thinking, encouraged students to develop a deeper understanding of
the constitutional framework, and inspired them to take action in upholding the principles
of democracy, equality, and justice.

NSS IIT Roorkee's decision to conduct these competitions in multiple schools

demonstrated their commitment to reaching a broader audience and engaging with a
diverse range of students. This inclusive approach ensured that students from various
backgrounds and grade levels had the opportunity to participate and contribute to the
event.
 12. Health and Hygiene

In alignment with the belief that a nation's empowerment lies in the empowerment of its
women and rural population, NSS IIT Roorkee undertook a meaningful initiative on 5th
February 2023. The team visited Mubarikpur village near Hastinapur to organize an event
focused on "Health and Hygiene" in collaboration with the rising women entrepreneurs in
the Modal gaon Scheme.

The event encompassed several enlightening sessions aimed at creating awareness and
promoting well-being in the community. One of the sessions shed light on the impact of
social media on individuals and society, emphasizing responsible usage and online safety.
Another important topic addressed during the event was menstrual hygiene, with the
intention of imparting essential knowledge and debunking misconceptions surrounding
this crucial aspect of women's health. Additionally, a session on meditation was
conducted to introduce the community to the benefits of mindfulness and stress
management techniques.

During the visit, the NSS team also assessed the condition of the Firozpur Mahadev Lake,
recognizing the need for its renovation. The team took note of the lake's current state
and initiated discussions on future conservation efforts to preserve its biodiversity. To
provide valuable insights and guidance on this matter, Dr. Rahul, an expert in biodiversity
conservation, delivered a talk highlighting the significance of protecting and conserving
the local ecosystem.

Furthermore, recognizing the importance of education and career guidance, the

education team from NSS IIT Roorkee engaged with the village students. They provided
career counselling and guidance, helping the students explore various educational and
vocational opportunities. As a symbol of progress and access to knowledge, a library was
also inaugurated during the event, symbolizing the commitment to fostering education
and intellectual growth within the community.

The visit to Mubarikpur village exemplified NSS IIT Roorkee's dedication to empowering
women and rural populations by addressing critical issues such as health, education, and
environmental conservation. Through this event, the team aimed to uplift and enlighten
the community, equipping them with valuable knowledge and resources necessary for
personal growth and development.

 13. National Social Summit 2023

The Annual Fest of NSS IIT Roorkee, known as The National Social Summit, was a grand
culmination of various events that aimed to promote social engagement and foster a spirit
of innovation and creativity. The fest included a diverse range of activities and
competitions, showcasing the talent and skills of participants.

Action Plan

One of the prominent events organized during the summit was the "Action Plan," where
participants had the opportunity to devise innovative solutions to real-world social
challenges. This event encouraged critical thinking and problem-solving skills, promoting a
proactive approach towards addressing societal issues.

Model United Nations

The Model United Nations (MUN) was another highlight of the fest, providing a platform for
participants to engage in diplomatic simulations, role-playing as delegates from different
nations. This event aimed to enhance participants' understanding of global affairs,
diplomacy, and negotiation skills.

Sociothon

Sociothon, a unique event, focused on promoting social entrepreneurship and social

innovation. Participants were encouraged to develop creative ideas and projects that could
have a positive impact on society. This event emphasized the importance of social
responsibility and sustainable development.

Policy Case

The Policy Case Competition allowed participants to showcase their analytical and
decision-making abilities by analysing and presenting solutions to complex policy issues.
This event fostered critical thinking and policy advocacy skills among the participants.

Case Study

The Case Study competition challenged participants to analyse and propose solutions to
real-life scenarios related to social issues. This event tested their research, analytical, and
communication skills.
 Work Presentation

Work Presentation was an opportunity for participants to present their research work,
projects, or initiatives related to social development, allowing them to share their
knowledge, insights, and experiences with the audience.

Nukkad Natak

A powerful form of street theatre where participants creatively convey social messages,
raise awareness, and inspire change through impactful performances staged in public
spaces.

E-sports

E-sports was a thrilling competition that embraced the world of online gaming, providing
participants with a platform to showcase their skills, strategy, and teamwork in various
virtual gaming arenas.

Debate

Participants engaged in lively debates on socially relevant topics, showcasing their

eloquence, critical thinking, and persuasive skills. The competition fostered intellectual
rigor, encouraging participants to research, construct compelling arguments, and engage in
respectful dialogue.

Other engaging events include Inquisition (Quiz series), Treasure Hunt, and the
Pre-Summit-Events, which featured Meme-it-up, Pixels (a photography competition),
Caricature, Art Talkies and Micro Fiction (a creative writing competition).

The National Social Summit brought together participants from various backgrounds and
provided them with a platform to showcase their talents, exchange ideas, and collaborate
on socially impactful initiatives. The fest promoted teamwork, creativity, and social
awareness among the participants, fostering a sense of responsibility towards building a
better society.

NSS IIT Roorkee's commitment to organizing such an extensive and diverse range of
events demonstrated their dedication to promoting social engagement, innovation, and

 14. Free Education to Students of Classes 8 to 12

Every year, NSS IIT Roorkee takes the initiative to organize free classes for students in
grades 8th to 12th. This year was no exception, as NSS IIT Roorkee continued its
commitment to providing free educational support to students. The aim of these classes is
to ensure that students receive quality education and have access to the necessary
resources for their studies.

During these free classes, NSS IIT Roorkee offers a comprehensive curriculum that covers
key subjects and topics relevant to the students' academic levels. The classes are designed
to enhance their understanding and knowledge in various subjects, helping them excel in
their studies.

To further facilitate effective learning, NSS IIT Roorkee provides students with the best
study materials available. These study materials are carefully curated and selected to align
with the respective academic syllabi. By offering quality study materials, we aim to

 15. Mega Mentorship Program

In a remarkable new initiative, NSS IIT Roorkee launched the Mega Mentorship Event for
the first time this year, aimed at providing guidance and support to students from across
the country. The response to this event was overwhelming, with an impressive participation
of approximately 250 students expressing their interest. Out of these applicants, 150
deserving students were carefully selected to be part of the mentorship program.

To ensure effective mentorship, NSS IIT Roorkee allocated 62 experienced mentors to the
selected mentees. Each mentor took on the responsibility of guiding and supporting around
3 mentees, offering personalized attention and assistance tailored to their individual needs.
This mentorship model was designed to foster meaningful connections and create a
conducive environment for learning and growth.

The Mega Mentorship Event serves as a valuable platform for students to receive guidance,
gain insights, and develop crucial skills necessary for their personal and academic
development. Through this mentorship program, NSS IIT Roorkee aims to empower
mentees with the knowledge, motivation, and support required to achieve their goals and

 16. Education Program by NSS

The Education team of NSS IIT Roorkee organized a comprehensive Education Program
aimed at providing assistance and guidance to students preparing for the JEE (Joint
Entrance Examination) and Navodaya entrance exams. Recognizing the significance of
these exams in shaping students' academic careers, the Education team dedicated their
efforts to ensuring that participants were well-prepared and equipped with the necessary
knowledge and skills.

The Education Program encompassed a range of activities and resources tailored to meet
the specific requirements of JEE and Navodaya entrance exams. The team meticulously
designed study materials, practice tests, and mock exams, all of which were aimed at
familiarizing students with the exam patterns and helping them enhance their
problem-solving abilities. These resources were carefully curated and aligned with the
respective exam syllabi to provide students with comprehensive coverage of the subjects
and topics.

In addition to study materials, the Education team conducted regular classes and
doubt-solving sessions to address any queries or concerns that students may have had
during their preparation. These interactive sessions allowed students to engage with
experienced mentors and educators, facilitating a deeper understanding of the exam
content and effective learning strategies.

The Education team's commitment to organizing such a program underscores NSS IIT

resources and support to excel academically. By focusing on exam preparation, the team
aimed to equip students with the skills and knowledge required to pursue their educational
aspirations and achieve their goals.

The Education Program conducted by the Education team of NSS IIT Roorkee stands as a
testament to their dedication and commitment to educational excellence. Through this
initiative, they aimed to make a positive impact on the academic journeys of the
participants, nurturing their potential and contributing to their overall growth and success.
 17. Conclave 2.0

NSS IIT Roorkee has proudly commenced its second Sustainability Conclave 2023 on the
occasion of the 175th year of IIT Roorkee. The Conclave perceived the idea of a sustainable
future in alignment with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The theme highlighted the pertinent sustainability issues, namely, waste management in
order to build a greener and cleaner world, environmental conservation in different ways
including wildlife conservation, self-defence for girls, and career guidance for children in the
village.

It consisted of the following events:

Career Guidance Workshop

The workshop was held on 9th April in Barat Bhawan Jatol village. Our experienced mentors
guided the students about discovering their true passion, interests, and helped then
navigate the different career options available to them.

Orphanage Visit

The visit was held on 11th April to spread love and joy at the orphanage, 'Vatsalya Vatika'.
From teaching origami to playing games, we made unforgettable memories with the
children. We gave them books and gifts making them feel joyful.
 Guest Lecture on "Environmental conservation through Wildlife
Conservation"

It was held on 12th April and Dr. Jerryl Banait was invited to aware students of this topic. He
is a highly respected dermatologist and cosmetologist, and his contributions to social welfare
have made him a well-known figure in India.It was based on the theme that by protecting
wildlife, we can ensure the survival of different species and maintain a healthy environment.

Waste Management Drive

The drive was held in Bharatpur jaat village on 13th April 2023. We told villagers about waste
management and segregation. Villagers participated enthusiastically in the event.

Self-defence Workshop

The workshop was organised on 13th and 14th April by NSS Women Empowerment team in
collaboration with Taekwondo Training School, Roorkee. It was led by three women
instructors who taught practical techniques for self defence to the participants.
 Blood Donation Camp at Saharanpur Campus

Blood Donation Camp is was organized by team NSS at the IIT Roorkee Saharanpur campus
on 16th April from 9AM to 3PM.

The event supported the believe that donating blood is a noble act that can save lives and
make a positive impact on society. It has been incredibly successful, with a collection of
over 1000 units of blood.
