A. Preparatory Activities

Prayer

Let us all rise and feel the presence of the (Prayer)

Lord. Norvel, kindly lead the prayer.

Greetings
Good morning Grade 7 learners. Good morning, ma’am.

Classroom Management

Kindly check your area if there are some

pieces of paper or wrappers, then arrange
your chairs properly.
You may now take your seats.
Before we start, I want you to turn off your
phone or put it into a silent mode. If you have
questions or clarifications, kindly raise your (Students do as told)
hand.
Am I clear class? Yes ma’am

Checking Attendance

Is everybody present today? (Students answered)

a. Review/Drill

Okay class; let us have a review first before

we proceed to our next topic.

Last meeting we tackled about Polynomials.

So, what is Polynomial class?

Yes, Joycee? Polynomial is an algebraic expression where

each term is constant, a variable or a product of
a constant and variable in which the variable
has a whole number (non-negative number)
exponent ma’am.
Very good!

So, when we say “poly” it means?

Poly means many ma’am.
Yes Jhed?

That’s right!

Now, what do you call a polynomial that has

one term?

Yes Arnold? Monomial ma’am.

Very Good!

What about a polynomial that has

two terms?

Yes Eleazar? Binomial ma’am.

Very good!

How about a polynomial that has three terms?

Yes Richmond? Trinomial ma’am.

Correct!

Class, when can we say that the expression is

like terms? It is like terms ma’am, if they have same literal
coefficient.
Yes Alia?

That’s right!

b. Motivation

Seems that you really understand our topic

last meeting.

So, Let’s have an activity. This activity is

called “Like or Dislike”. In answering, you
will be paired with your seatmate. I will flash
a problem or expressions on the TV screen
then you will identify if it is like terms or not.

You will raise the provided like emoticon if it

is like terms and the dislike emoticon if it is
not like terms. The first pair who raise and got
the correct answer will earn a point.
The pair that will earn highest points will be
the winner and will receive a prize.

Am I clear class? Yes ma’am

Okay let’s start!

Activity: 6 like terms and 4 not like terms
(Students do the activity)
So, what have you observed in the activity
class?

Yes Phebe? As I observed ma’am, we identify

the expressions if it is like terms or not.

Great observation!
What else?
Yes, Angelie? The activity is reviewing our knowledge/
learnings in the previous topic ma’am.
Very well said!

Class, those words and expressions are

connected to our topic this morning.

So, are you ready to learn new interesting

math topic this morning? Yes ma’am

B. Developmental Activities

a. Presentation

Okay, seat back, relax and be with me this

morning as I’m going to discuss the first
fundamental operation of polynomials
“Addition of Polynomials”
“Addition of Polynomials”
Everybody read!

By the end of the discussion, we need to

obtain these following objectives.

a. identify similar/like terms.

b. add polynomials with like terms; and
c. value the importance of following the steps
in adding polynomials.

b. Discussion

So, this morning we will tackle about addition

of polynomials.

Addition of polynomial involves combining

like terms present in the two polynomials.

Again, like terms or similar terms are terms

with the same literal coefficients.
Rules in Adding Polynomials:

● To add polynomials, simply combine

similar terms. To combine similar terms, get
the sum of the numerical coefficients and
annex the same literal coefficients.

These are the steps in adding polynomials:

Step 1: Remove all parentheses.

Step 2: Identify the similar terms.

Step 3: Group the similar terms together.

Step 4: Add the similar terms.

Step 5: Finalize the answer.

Example 1:

Add (4a) + (6a).

Solution:

Step 1: Remove all parentheses.

4a + 6a

Step 2: Identify the similar terms.

4a + 6a

Step 3: Group the similar terms together

4a + 6a

Step 4: Add the similar terms.

10a

Step 5: Finalize the answer.

Therefore, (4a) + (6a) = 10a

Did you get it class? Yes ma’am

Example 2:

Add (3x-7y) + (2x + 3y)

Solution:

Step 1: Remove all parentheses.

3x-7y + 2x=3y

Step 2: Identify the similar terms.

3x-7y + 2x+3y

Step 3: Group the similar terms together

3x+ 2x -7y +3y

Step 4: Add the similar terms.

5x – 4y

Step 5: Finalize the answer.

Therefore, 3x+ 2x -7y +3y= 5x – 4y

Did you get it class? Yes ma’am.

There are 2 methods in combining like terms

in addition polynomials:

● Horizontal Method

● Vertical Method

Example 3:

Add (5 x 2- 4x+10) + ( 2 x 2- 2x) Solution:

Step 1: Remove all parentheses.

2 2
5 x - 4x+10+ 2 x - 2x

Step 2: Identify the similar terms.

2 2
5 x - 4x+10+ 2 x - 2x
Step 3: Group the similar terms together
2
5 x - 4x+10
2
2 x - 2x
Step 4: Add the similar terms.
2
5 x - 4x+10
2
2 x - 2x
2
7 x −6 x +10

Step 5: Finalize the answer

Therefore, 5 x 2- 4x+10+ 2 x 2- 2x is equal to

2
7 x −6 x +10

Did you get class? Yes ma’am

Do you have clarifications or questions?
None ma’am
Note: You can use either horizontal or
vertical method in adding polynomials.

c. Generalization

Okay, as a recap, what are the

steps in adding polynomials?

Yes Claire? Step 1: Remove all parentheses.

Step 2: Identify the similar terms.
Step 3: Group the similar terms together
Step 4: Add the similar terms.
Step 5: Finalize the answer.

Very good!

This time, I will give you another example but

I want a volunteer. Okay?

Example

Add ( 2 y 2+2z+5) + (6 y 2+ 3z-2)

Okay, who wants to try for

step 1 and 2?

Yes, Nicole? Students expected answer:

Step 1: Remove all parentheses.
2 2
2 y +2z+5+ 6 y + 3z-2
Step 2: Identify the similar terms.
2 2
2 y +2z+5+ 6 y + 3z-2

What about for step 3 and 4?

Yes, Arnold? Step 3: Group the similar terms together.

2 2
2 y + 6 y +2 z+ ¿3z+5-2

Step 4: Add the similar terms

2
8 y +5 z+3

And lastly, for step 5?

Yes, Angel? Step 5: Finalize the answer.

Therefore, 2 y 2+2z+5+ 6 y 2+ 3z-2 is equal to

2
8 y +5 z+3

Very good! all answers are correct.

Let’s give them a wow clap.

Values Integration

Now, why is it important to follow the steps

in adding polynomials?

Yes Gamos? It is important ma’am that we follow the steps

in adding polynomials for us to be guided in
getting the correct answer without any doubts.

Very well said!

Yes, it is really important to follow rules or

steps in adding polynomials for us to be
guided.

So, do you have questions or clarifications?

No ma’am.
C. Concluding Activities
