aSurveillance Cameras

The use of surveillance cameras in public places has increased significantly.

Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of this development.

In recent years, the presence of surveillance cameras in public places has become significantly
more popular. While some argue that these devices enhance security and deter criminal
activities, others have raised concerns about privacy and psychological effects. This essay will
discuss both the benefits and drawbacks of this development.

- Crime Prevention
- Crime Investigation

On the one hand, surveillance cameras contribute significantly to public safety. First, they act as
a crime deterrent, as people are less likely to engage in illegal activities when they know they
are being watched. For example, studies/ statistics have shown that the presence of cameras in
urban residential areas has led to a significant reduction in theft (trom cap) and vandalism (pha
hoai tai san). Second, in the event of a crime, footage from these cameras serves as valuable
evidence that helps law enforcement = the police identify and arrest suspects, increasing the
likelihood of justice being served.

- Example: Cameras set up in stores and malls → have the police identify the facial
features, motor vehicles of the criminals, and time of committing crimes → solve
crimes like shoplifting or assault.

On the other hand, the widespread use of surveillance cameras also has notable disadvantages. A
major concern is the potential for privacy violations. Constant monitoring in public places can
make people feel uncomfortable and limit their sense of freedom. Nhấn mạnh + Ví dụ: In some
cases, some people misuse the video footage for purposes like stalking or spreading sensitive
moments or embarrassing moments of people on social media without permission. This can lead
to crimes like cyberbullying or blackmailing. In addition, cameras can also create psychological
stress and unease because when people know they are being monitored, they can feel pressured
and uncomfortable in their daily activities. Vi du VCameras set up near changing rooms or
restrooms in shopping malls where mostly people would expect some levels of privacy. Kết
quả: always act unnaturally → reduced genuine social interaction + affect mental health of
the citizens + the lack of trust toward the authorities.
In summary, while surveillance cameras provide many security benefits, including crime
prevention and law enforcement support, they also pose risks to people's privacy and
psychological problems.
Prison Sentence - HOMEWORK
Some people think that the best way to reduce crime is to give longer prison sentences. Others,
however, believe there are better alternative ways of reducing crime. Discuss both views and

Crime prevention is a major concern for every society. While individuals argue that the
most effective way to reduce crime is to give longer prison terms, others believe that alternative
solutions such as addressing the root causes of crimes problems and applying rehabilitation
programs are more effective. This essay will discuss both perspectives to demonstrate that ….

in the conclusion.
On the one hand, giving stricter and longer prison sentences can prevent potential
criminals. Firstly, they fear the consequences because of harsh punishments, making them
think twice before committing a crime. For example, Singapore has successfully reduced crime
rates by using strict laws and prison (phải nói rõ đây là prison, chứ ko phải những punishments
khác như là fines hoặc probation) punishments. Furthermore, keeping criminals in prison can
protect society from dangerous individuals, especially serial killers or terrorists who can harm
others. If these offenders are released too soon, they are more likely to reoffend, causing fear
and insecurity for citizens.
On the other hand, other alternative solutions are also essential to reduceing the crime
rate. Some argue that we should tackle the root causes of crimes such as unemployment, drug
addiction, poverty and lack of education. because these are often the reasons why Individuals
feel have no choice and but turning to crime as their only option to survive. By providing free
programs, education and offering vocational training, individuals can be given give better
opportunities to earn a living, thereby reducing their likelihood of committing crimes.
Additionally, rehabilitation programs play a crucial role in helping offenders change behavior.
Not all prisoners can become better after imprisonment, especially some people can even
become more dangerous, angrier, and hateful towards authority. Offering rehabilitation
programs can help reduce the chances of reoffending, and individuals former criminals can turn
to reintegrate into society easily in a more sustainable and ensured way.
In conclusion, while longer prison sentences can offer short-term benefits in terms of
deterring criminals and protecting society, alternative approaches such as addressing the root
causes of crime and rehabilitation programs provide more sustainable and humane solutions. In
my opinion, a combination of both ways would be the most effective to decrease crime in the
long run.
