PART 2: FULL WRITTEN ANSWERS • 40 Minutes • 40 points • CALCULATOR ALLOWED •
For questions in this part you must explain your answer in detail. No credit will be given for the answer
alone. Write your answer on the same page as the question. Ask for extra paper if you need more space.
1. (10 points) Find the volume of the solid obtained by rotating the region bounded by the curve
y = 4 − x2 and the x−axis about the x−axis.

2. (10 points) The radius r of a cylinder is increasing at a rate of 4 meters per hour, and the height h of
the cyclinder is decreasing at a rate of 4 meters per hour. At a certain instant, the radius is 5 meters
and the height is 8 meters. What is the rate of change of the volume V of the cylinder at that instant?
Note that
V = πr2 h.

3. (10 points) A company sells a new model of premium shirt at the price of $153 − 0.5x where x is the
number of shirts manufactured per day. The material for each shirt costs $36. The labor and over-
heads for running the manufacturing plant cost $1500 per day. How many shirts should the company
manufacture and sell per day in order to maximize their profit? (Assume that the company sells all
the shirts that they produce.)
Note: Profit = Revenue − Cost
Revenue = Number of products × Product price.

4. (10 points) Chris and Kelly compete in a car race. Their cars are side by side at the start of a race.
The table shows the velocities of each car (in kilometers per hour) during the first ten seconds of the
race. t is time, vC is the velocity of Chris’ car, vK is the velocity of Kelly’s car. Use the Trapezoidal
Rule to estimate how much further Kelly travels than Chris does during the first ten seconds.
