Q.No Question CO B

1 A 25 MVA, 11 kV, generator has a Xo”: 0.2 p.u. It’s negative and zero C316.1 3
sequence reactances are respectively 0.3 and 0.1 p.u. The neutral of the
generator is solidly grounded. Determine the sub-transient current in the
generator and line-to-line voltages for sub-transient conditions when an LG
fault occurs at the generator terminals. Assume that before the occurrence of
the fault, the generator is operating at no load at rated voltage. Ignore
resistances.

2 A generator is rated at 30 MVA, 11 kV and has a reactance of 20% C316.1 3

Calculate it’s per unit reactance for 50 MVA, 10 kV base.

3 Two generators rated at 10 MVA, 13.2 KV and 15 MVA 13.2 kV C316.1 3

respectively are connected in parallel to a bus. The bus feeds two motors
rated at 8 MVA and 12 MVA respectively. The rated voltage of motors is
12.5 kV. The reactance of each generator is 15% and that of each motor is
20% on its own rating. Assume 50 MVA 128 kV base and draw reactance
diagram.
4 Draw the zero sequence network for the system shown below in Fig. 1 C316.1 1
Fig.1

5 The line to ground voltage on the high voltage side of transformer are 100 C316.1 3
kV, 33 kV and 38 kV on phase a, b, and c. The voltage of phases a leads by
phase b by 100" and lags that of phas a by 176.5°, determine analytically the
symmetrical components of voltage.
6 Derive the expression for the symmetrical components of fault current of a C316.1 3
power system for L-L fault through impedance. A 30 MVA, 11 kV generator
has Z1 = Z2 = j 0.2 pu, , Z0 = j0.05 pu. A line- to-ground fault occurs on the
generator terminals. Find the fault current and line-to-line voltages during
fault condition.
7 A25 MVA, 13.2 KV alternators with solidly grounded neutral has a sub C316.1 3
transient reactance of 0.25 p.u. The negative and zero sequence reactance are
0.35 and 0.1 p.u. respectively. A single line to ground fault occurs at the
terminals of an unloaded alternator; determine the fault current and the line-
to-line voltages. Neglect resistances.
8 A set of 3 phase unbalanced voltages and currents resolved into symmetrical C316.1 3
components give the following results:
Vao: 30L-300 Iao: 10 L1900
0
Val : 450L0 Ia1 : 6 L200
Va2:225L400 Ia2: 5L500
Determine the complex power represented by these voltages and currents by
(i) Symmetrical components. (ii) unbalanced phase quantities
9 Explain the modeling of generator, transformer, transmission line, load, C316.1 2
shunt capacitor and shunt reactor for power flow and stability studies.
10 Explain sequence impedances. OR Prove that for the transmission lines zero C316.1 2
sequence impedance is much larger than the positive sequence impedance.
Also discuss the effect of mutual inductances.
