Persuasive Speech On The Duck
I have a superstition, or phobia, called Anatidaephobia. In other words, it s the fear a duck is
always watching you. To most, this may seem like a joke, or some sort of satirical story, but it is
no laughing matter. The duck starts as a funny prank that is being played on you, or maybe just part
of your imagination. You see it in your dreams; in the background, behind the action. It just sits
there, watching. You don t notice it until you start looking. At that point, you can t make it go away.
It s funny at first, that your brain would do this. After all, why would you see a duck. Soon a
realization comes that it isn t going away. It just sits there, plotting something, in your mind, the
mind you deemed safe. You begin to loath sleep for... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Your time has come. It s moving toward you. It quacks loudly as if asking you something, but you
know its true intentions. It s you or the duck, though you re not sure who. There s no time to find
out. You grab a pencil and stab it. It quacks in agony and steps back. You run to get a more
suitable weapon as the duck waddles to the phone. It s calling for reinforcements. You find a
knife. IT WON T MAKE IT OUT OF THIS ALIVE! The duck runs, but you re faster. You get it
right in the back, then finish the job. It s body lays on the ground, and you cack a faint smile. You
begin to leave, but realize a problem. You left the oven
F Class Reflection
The past two and a half weeks have been an adventure for me, with Spies...Like Us: Cold War
Literature being perhaps my most engaging and interesting class this term. Each day I ve learned
something new, and I ve observed from a distance our F period class evolve. Through watching
others receive criticism and ridicule, and experiencing such ridicule myself on certain occasions, I
hold the firm belief that this course has succeeded, and far surpassed my expectations, in its
experiential learning aspect. On Wednesday, November 29, the first day of English for the winter
term, I remember walking into the classroom and being told to push my chair away from the
Harkness table for not wearing red. That day, we watched a documentary on the Iron Curtain, and I
had taken notes with my notebook in my lap quite an uncomfortable experience. After classes that
day, I had assumed that the wear red policy was a practical joke an introductory activity and I left
my calendar for the next day blank. When I walked into the classroom on Thursday, I
immediately knew I had made a mistake. For a second day in a row, I was exiled from the
Harkness table. As I stared at the chalk board that class period, I vowed to myself never to make
the same mistake again. From then on, I have had a calendar entry for every English day that
reminded me to wear red. That Thursday was the last time I neglected to wear red to English class
this past Turkey Term. Although I only had a few pieces of red clothing,

Fentanyl s Policy Solution Fentanyl is a powerful narcotic, one hundred times stronger than heroin
(Sagan), that is rapidly becoming a national crisis in Canada. Fentanyl is often found within fake
OxyContin pills or laced in other drugs such as heroin. Alberta and several cities in Ontario are
seeing how fentanyl is affecting their provinces: in 2016 Alberta saw 343 fatal overdoses, Ontario
saw 165 in 2015 (Cheung). The closest Canadian province, British Columbia, to the deadly drug s
source has felt the impact of the narcotic the most. Last year there were 914 fentanyl linked
overdoses in B.C (Ostroff). The danger of fentanyl is something every single Canadian youth needs

There is a lot of misconception about drug legalization. Uncertainty towards this concept is
usually because of stigma surrounding drug use or confusing legalization with decriminalization.
Decriminalising an illegal drug means taking away penalties for possessing that drug but leaving
its distribution in the hands of criminals who can continue to contaminate the drug any way they
see fit. Legalization by contrast brings narcotics entirely under government control. That means
that when a drug is legalized, the government is the one in charge of regulating the sales, content,
and distribution of the drug. The most universally effective example of a government deciding to
legalize a dangerous substance, which in its unregulated state was killing over a thousand people
a year, happened when the United States decided to legalize alcohol. Before it was legalized,
alcohol in the Prohibition era was laced with poison and the alcohol content of a drink varied
dramatically (Ostroff). Back then the selling of alcohol, like the drug market today, was a
criminally operated free for all. Unregulated and tainted liquor killed over 10,000 americans during
the thirteen years of prohibition (Hanson), that s two alcohol caused fatalities a day. Today, alcohol
is strictly regulated by the government and there are rules for what manufacturers can put in their
product before it is allowed to go to market. For this reason alcohol fatalities are caused

The Pros And Cons Of Private Prisons
Despite what you may think, private prisons have existed in the United States dating all the way
back to 1852, beginning with the San Quentin state prison. Private prisons did not truly become as
common as they are today though until President Ronald Reagan led a large scale effort for
increased privatization around the United Statesduring the 1980 s. One result of this effort was a
large upswing in the number of private prisons. As a result of private prisons becoming more
common place, it has been seen that compared to prisons run by the government, length of
sentences have gone up within private prisons, while at the same time the treatment of prisoners
has gone down. This topic interests me because I believe that it should never be in the best
interests of such a large and powerful group to have as many people as possible in prisonfor as long
as possible. In my opinion, it is not ethically correct on a basic human level to ever have it in
people s best interests to keep other people in prison. I chose this topic because I have always held
a strong opinion on this topic but have never had the time to do extensive research on it and either
confirm or dispel my current beliefs about it.
According to time.com, it has been found that inmates held in private prisons in Mississippi from
1996 to 2004 served 4% to 7% longer than inmates serving similar sentences in public prisons. The
true reason behind these longer sentences according to time.com, is that

Impact of the Secret Speech- Khrushchev
Gobbet 2 Khrusschev s Secret Speech

The Source is an extract of a speech given by Nikita Khrushchev at the Twentieth Party Congress
of the Soviet Union on February 25th 1956. Khrushchev served as First Secretary of the
Communist Party of the Soviet Union from 1953 to 1964, and as Chairman of the Council of
Ministers, or Premier, from 1958 to 1964. Khrushchev was responsible for the partial de
Stalinization of the Soviet Union, for backing the progress of the world s early space program, and
for several relatively liberal reforms in areas of domestic policy. Stalin s political heirs fought for
power after his death in 1953, a struggle in which Khrushchev, after several years, emerged
triumphant. In 1956, at the Twentieth Party Congress, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The government would now rule now not by terror and compulsion, but by calling on the
initiative of the people and their co operation. Khrushchev launched the de Stalinization campaign
for internal reasons, and in the teeth of strong opposition from Stalinists such as Molotov,
Malenkov and Voroshilov. The speech achieved its purpose, at least within the Communist party
of the Soviet Union. It drew a firm line under the Stalinist era, acknowledging its monstrosities
and disasters while preserving the fiction that the present Communist leadership bore no
responsibility. Khrushchev became secure in power and won a relatively free hand to reform
the Soviet economy and liberalize the apparatus of terror. In addition to this old Stalinists such as
Molotov were removed from their positions. A period of liberalization followed which was known
as Khrushchev s Thaw. This was a chain of unprecedented steps to free people from fear and
dictatorship. Two climactic acts of de Stalinization marked the process firstly, on October 31,
1961, Stalin s body was removed from its mausoleum in Red Square and reburied, and secondly, on
November 11, 1961, the hero city Stalingrad was renamed to Volgograd. However the power
struggle between liberals and conservative pro Stalinists never stopped, and it eventually weakened
the Soviet Communist Party. However the real significance of

Executive Summary

Agro Storage has recently purchased a cold storage warehouse that stores packages for three
customers. Although the warehouse runs at 85% capacity, the previous owner was unsatisfied with
profitability. Pressure on prices downward and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this case, reducing the total number of customers served would increase the default risk. I must
insure that any alternatives don t increase the risk of this business operation unwarrantedly.

Perceived Image by Customers: Changing existing contracts and relationships with customers can
have positive or adverse affects on how Agro Storage is perceived by customers. It is important that
any alternative recommended not damage the reputation of Agro Storage. Such damage could
impact future profitability through a lack of sales.

It is clear that in this situation profitability is the biggest criterion and will bear the most weight in
decision making. Risk is not the most important factor here because of the small range numbers that
total customers can vary, and perceived image is not the most important factor since price seems to
be the overwhelming factors customers base their decision on. It seems like a warehouses reputation
would have to be significantly damaged before customers incorporated it in to their decision making.

Analysis

A review of the information provided to me has allowed me to calculate the profitability of each
customer very precisely, and has let me form certain conclusions about the profitability of each of
customer. Also, I noticed several cost and constraints for this warehouse:

Send/receive goods a variable cost based on weight. From the information given to me (or lack

Nonfiction Examples In Into The Wild
Facts are data; truth is the sense we make of the data. And the sense we make should always be
open to revision, to new evidence, to further discovery. Another way to say Scott Russell Sanders s
quote, is that facts are just proven information, and truth is the understanding that we have of that
information. And understanding should always be open to change or new ideas. Creative
nonfiction is believed by some that it can lead readers to new insights or discoveries. On the other
hand, some believe that it just makes a normal nonfiction story into a interesting piece. Despite all
the arguments, creative nonfiction can lead readers to new insights and discoveries. There are many
examples in the world that readers can gain new insights or discoveries... Show more content on

In Krakauer s piece, he gives the story about a young man named Chris McCandless, who decided
to live his handed to him life behind to go live in the wilderness in Alaska. Chris s decision
ultimately lead to his death, and many readers try to figure out why he would ve left his perfect
life to death. In chapter eleven, Krakauer mentions Chris s relationship with his father, Walt
McCandless, Walt is accustomed to calling the shots. Taking control is something he does
unconsciously, reflexively. Although he speaks softly in the unhurried cadence of the American
West, his voice has an edge, and the set of his jaw betrays an undercurrent of nervous energy...
There is no mistaking whence Chris s intensity came (Krakauer 105). Krakauer is clearly bringing
a new discovery to readers about Chris s life. Readers can now understand that part of the reason
why Chris left was because he didn t have a good relationship with his father. Another example from
Into the Wild is when Krakauer talks about the picture Chris took, one of his last acts was to take
a picture of himself, standing near the bus under the Alaska sky... He is smiling in the picture,
and there is no mistaking the look in his eyes: Chris McCandless was at peace, serene as a monk
gone to God (Krakauer 199). Krakauer brings a new insight to readers, Chris left his perfect life to
live in the wild because that truly made him happy. Many people at first said that Chris was an idiot
for trying to live in the wilderness, but after reading Krakauer s novel, their opinions of Chris

Classroom Observation In Instructional Web Design
In the instructional web design, for the emergent learning, the focus was on learning the solar
system. The classroom, I observed for twenty hours, was doing a lesson on the solar system and child
Q, was having some difficulties and challenges understanding the interesting facts about the solar
system. The children were learningabout the different planets, astronauts, moon, sun, stars and
meteoroids. Child Q, was not interested in the solar system, he would get extremely distracted, when
the teacher was doing the lesson, which caused him to have difficulties and challenges when it came
to learning about the solar system.
In the instructional web design, areas that I thought covered the social/emotional development were
the puppets, dramatic arts, creative arts, music and movement. I thought these areas were under the
social/emotional development, because these areas focus on the child s social skills and how the
child can express their feelings and who they are. Some ideas and strategies that I suggested, that
may help child Q understand ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the dramatic arts areas, I would have dress up clothes, like astronaut clothes, helmets and the
different equipment that relates to the solar system. This will help child Q, understand and relate
what you have to wear when you go into space. For creative arts, I would have child Q and the
class create their own solar system and hang it in the classroom and have the children create their
own rocket ship out of the cardboard box. Having the children make a rocket ship, will give the
children an idea what it is like to be an astronaut and to go to space. For music and movement, I
thought this area is a good area that focuses on social and emotional development, because having
songs about space and the solar system, will get the children a chance dance and express their
emotions and social skills with the other children in the
