Maya Angelou Pretty Woman
The song Pretty Woman talks of a guy meeting a beautiful looking female. The song is similar but
cannot be compared to the meaning of a poem by Maya Angelou. Her poem Phenomenal Woman,
talks about how she is not a pretty woman, yet that does not stop the men from looking and
wondering about her. Maya Angelou uses imagery, tone, and the title to describe her view of herself
compared to the pretty womanImagery in the poem Phenomenal Woman is important. Maya
Angelou uses imagery in the poem because the speaker is comparing herself, a regular woman, to
the way media suggest woman should look. She uses this literary technique in each stanza,
especially in the second stanza of the poem, describing how men react to her and not the pretty
woman. Then they swarm around me, hive of honey bees (lines 19 20), creating an example of
imagery saying that wherever the speaker ends up men began to surround her. In all of the
stanzas, almost in the middle of each one, the speaker describes herself, It s in the arch of my
back, the sun of my smile, the ride of my breast, the grace of my style (lines 38 41). This quote
explains the speaker s quality which allows the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Without tone, the poem would seem dull and pointless. Avonie Brown says, Maya Angelou
introduces me to the lyrical quality of language, it natural rhythm, its musicality and beauty of the
phrase well turned (1). Proving that the tone of the poem is moving and inspirational, with a little
beat to it to make it interesting. The poem s natural rhythm gives the feeling of enlightenment by
reading the first line in the first stanza. Pretty woman wonder where my secret lies. I m not cute
or built to suit a fashion model s size (lines 1 2), giving a lyrical quality to the poem while creating
a prideful tone for the speaker. She is proud that she can t fit in the media s ideal of woman. Just like
the tone, the title, Phenomenal Woman, also has some qualities of its
An Definition Of Domestic Violence Essay
The definition of domestic violence, or intimate partner violence, is a multiple or single incidence of
abusive behavior that uses oppression, threats, isolation, and fear that often results in psychological
and/or emotional trauma. Intimate partner violence is not a specific gender issue; a common
assumption is that victims of abusive relationships are only women, which is a false belief.
According to the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence, 1 in 4 men have experience some
type of psychological and/or physical violence by their partner (2014). Partner abuse, or domestic
violence is a big social problem in the United States. Alone in Texas, the NCADV reported that
there were 76,704 victims of abuse by current or former spouses. They also reported 114 Texan
women were killed by their partners. This is more than 10% of the national total (2015). No
matter the age, gender or race, everyone is exposed to this threat. A recent report by the NCADV
also reveals that 75% of Texans ranging from 16 to 24 year olds have experienced violence by their
partners, or know someone (2015). This is definitely a scary high number. Another common
assumption is that it is only the victims the ones who suffer. This is not exactly true. Child Abuse
Neglect written by Stephanie Holt, Helen Buckley and Sadhbh finds that, children and adolescents
living with domestic violence are at increased risk of experiencing emotional, physical and sexual
abuse, of developing emotional and behavioral
Mule Deer Case Study
The large population sizes of ungulates limit much of the genetic issues associated with selective
harvest. However, due to the common hunting strategies individuals, often males, with high
reproductive value are removed. Pairing this with the issue of the tragity of the commons
management of commonly harvested populations is imperative. To manage this population of mule
deer in Colorado a detailed Microsoft Excel spreadsheet has been used for 29 years. To ease
management of this population I would not utilize trial and error based on this spreadsheet.
However, it does provide ample insight into how various management strategies will play out in the
landscape. Moreover, due to the dangers associated with stochasticity and constant

2.Qualitative research questions clearly stated and aligned with problem and purpose statements.
3.Mixed Method includes all of the above.]
Research Methods and Design(s)
Observational, case study, and survey are the three types of research methods. The first method is
the observational method where the behavior of animals and/or humans are observed in either a
natural or laboratory setting (Creswell). The difference between the two settings is one allows
scientists to view the person or animal in their natural habitat whereas the laboratory setting allows
a controlled environment. Qualitative is the best research for observational (Creswell). Case
studies are a type of research method that leads to a testable hypotheses and often involves an in
depth study of a person or group. The flaw to this type of study is the errors in bias by the
researcher and an individual s own description (Creswell). Case studies are often quantitative. The
survey method is the other research type and involves having individuals answer questions in the
form of a questionnaire or interview. The survey method involves both qualitative and quantitative
research (Creswell)
Documenting Exhibition Behaviours ( Online )
Documenting Exhibition Behaviours (online) Ten Thousand Cents by Aaron Koblin and Takashi
Kawashima from 2007, for example, is a digital artwork that creates a representation of a $100
bill. Using a custom drawing tool (Mechanical Turk), thousands of individuals working in
isolation from one another painted a tiny part of the bill without knowledge of the overall task.
Workers were paid one cent each via Amazon s Mechanical Turk distributed labor tool. The total
labor cost to create the bill, the multi authored artwork being created, and the reproductions
available for purchase (to charity) are all $100. (Koblin and Kawashima 2007) The producers and
viewers of the work are carefully tracked on the website, even if they do not buy the work average
times spent and the location of visitors from Egypt to the Philippines are logged. (Graham, 2014)
New media artworks that are installed only online, and are site specific to the World Wide Web,
must be considered carefully for interactive behaviours, but as the Internet is inherently
interactive, net artists are well used to this. www_hack (2010) by Rui Guerra, for example, is a
creative intervention onto specific web sites. A script installed on the host site allows all visitors to
a single webpage to observe each others mouse movements at any one time. On a technical level,
the work is based on a javascript that contacts a server where all the individual mouse positions are
stored, displaying all the cursors in
Jesus And Jesus Signs In The Gospel Of Jesus
Although there are many signs throughout the Gospel of John (John 2:1 11), the wedding at Cana
was one of the first signs that Jesus performed within his lifetime. The story beings explaining the
scene, On the third day there was a wedding in Cana in Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there.
Jesus and his disciples were also invited to the wedding (John 2:1 2). Understanding those who were
acquainted with Jesuswere all present during the wedding allows for the reader to assume that this
could have been the first sign Jesus was able to show his loving disciples that he truly was the
divine power. Although the disciples of Jesus did believe that he was truly the Messiah, they had
not physically seen an actual miracle to be performed by the divine being. Realizing that not only
was this the first physical sign that Jesus performed to the people of Galilee, but also to his
immediate followers, is an incredible fact that not many take into consideration.
At the beginning of the chapter 2 in the Gospel of John, the mother of Jesus was the first to hold a
converse with the divine being. The wine had ran short for the wedding, enabling the mother of
Jesus to gain a sense of empathy for the bride and groom. This empathy enabled her to tell her son,
They have no wine (John 2:3). Jesus responded, Women, how does your concern affect me? My
hour has not come yet. (John 2:4). The response Jesus gave to his mother was quite unusual. The
typical response to a mother from her son
Bishop Charles Mason
BISHOP C.H. MASON
One of the most significant figures in the rise and spread of the modern Pentecostal movement,
Charles Harrison Mason was born September 8, 1866.

Along with his mother he attended the Mt. Olive Baptist Church near Plumerville where the pastor,
Mason s half brother, the Reverend I.S. Nelson, baptized him in an atmosphere of praise and
thankgiving. From that point in his life, Mason went throughout the area of southern Arkansas as a
lay preacher, giving his testimony and working with souls on the mourners bench, especially during
the summer camp meetings.

Mason was licensed and ordained in 1891 at Preston, Arkansas, but held back from full time ministry
to marry Alice Saxton, the beautiful daughter of his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Bell and H.A. Goss issued a call to convene a general council of all Pentecostal saints and Church
Of God In Christ followers, to meet the following April at Hot Springs, Arkansas. This invitation
went only to the white saints. On the first week of April 1914, Mason traveled to the Hot Springs
convention to invoke God s blessings on the newly formed General Council of the Assemblies of
God. He preached to more than four hundred white Pentecostal preachers. By 1917 Church Of God
In Christ congregations were organized in Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, and Brooklyn. Evangelists were
also at work in Harlem. In 1935 a storefront church was opened at 137th and Lenox Avenue, placing
Bishop Mason s message before the largest urban black population in America.

Despite this new racial separation, Mason maintained a warm fellowship with the white Pentecostals.
He preached in their conventions and maintained a strong fellowship with two prominent white
Pentecostal leaders: A.J. Thomlinson of the Church of God (CG, Cleveland, Tennessee) and J.H.
King of the Pentecostal Holiness Church (PHC, Franklin Springs, Georgia). In 1952, Mason was the
elder statesman attending the Pentecostal world Conference at London, England.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) developed a file on C.H. Mason because of his pacifism
and interracialism. In 1918 some white followers of Mason in Los Angeles were identified as being

Biography of William Sydney Porter
William Sydney Porter was born on September 11, 1862 in Greensboro, North Carolina. He was
the son of Dr. Algernon Sydney Porter, and Virginia Jane Swain, also a brother to Shirley Worth
and David Weir. Will s mother died when he was just three years old. Mrs. Ruth Porter, Will s
grandmother, took over the duties of the household but was very stern. At the age of 5 Will
attended school and five years later started work at his uncle s pharmacy. In 1882, Will moved to
La Salle County, Texas. Will lived and worked on the Ranch of Lee and Richard Hall. While on
the ranch he learned to rope, ride, shoot a gun, dip and shear sheep, and lasso cattle. In his extra
time he also learned to speak some French, German, and Spanish. In 1884, Will left the ranch and
moved to Austin Texas. During his first few years in Austin Will held several different jobs, he
was a pharmacist, a bookkeeper, and a clerk at Maddox Brothers and Anderson, general land

weddings, church festivals, and picnics. On July 1, 1887 Will was married to Athol Estes by Dr.
Smoot of the Southern Presbyterian Church. Will then took a job at the Texas Land Office,
where he became a skilled cartographer. Will s maps and sketches are still on file at the General

Examples Of Figurative Language In Catcher In The Rye
What is the author s style? In this case, Salinger s style is based on the many topics of literature,
including the three basic elements, which are diction, syntax and figurative language. The Catcher
In The Rye is a very eye catching book that talks about a young man named Holden, who got
expelled from his school, Pencey Prep. Salinger speaks through the eyes of Holden Caulfield. His
styleis portrayed by showing the distinctive way he uses language compared to other authors.

In this novel, Salinger shows the diction mainly during the dialogues between the characters. The
diction of The Catcher In The Rye is informal due to the different types of colloquial used
throughout the story. An example of this colloquial diction in the book was when Stradlater told
Holden to hurry up in this way, Why don tcha? I will, in minute time. (Stradlater, p.32) We can see
that Stradlater uses a type of slang language as in don tcha. This shows the diction of the story and
how it gives us a feel for what Salinger was trying to do to catch the reader s attention.

This novel also shows us many examples of imagery and symbolism. Imagery gives us a picture of
what is happening in that scene of the story. Imagery gives the reader a realistic look of it.
Symbolism just shows an object or something in that book that represents something special to one
of the characters or even the author. These both can affect the author s style by setting the mood of
the story. In this novel, there was an
The Deadly Diet Of Eating Disorders
Eating disorders are sweeping this country and are rampant on junior high, high school, and
college campuses. These disorders are often referred to as the Deadly Diet, but are often known
by their more popular names: anorexia or bulimia. They affect more than 20% of females
between the age of thirteen and forty. It is very rare for a young female not to know of someone
with an eating disorder. Statistics show that at least one in five young women have a serious
problem with eating and weight (Bruch, 25). The Deadly Diet appears to be a mostly female
problem. Eating disorders are most common in the middle to upper middle class families.
Currently, the incidence is much lower in females from the blue collar families. The Deadly Diet
can begin anywhere from the ages of ten to thirty. The peak age for the beginning of the Deadly
Diet in females is eleven to fifteen; the peak for males is between fifteen and eighteen (Bauer,
89). Most of the information on the Deadly Diet says that it is a problem of teenage girls, but as
clinics have found, most of the people who come to get therapy are in their twenties and thirties.
This may be because younger people are less likely to seek professional help. Most often it is the
parent who brings the patient for help. Adults who have left home and had to deal with managing
their lives usually tend to realize more clearly the need to seek help and make changes. Everywhere
one looks today, one will notice that our culture places a very
The Importance Of Being Earnest By Wilde
The Importance of Being Earnest , is utilised by Wilde to draw attention to the superficiality of
the social facades predominantly maintained by the upper classes, through the physical depiction
of Jack and Algernon s aliases. Wilde further exemplifies his discontent with widespread social
conventions at the time by satirising the arrogance of the aristocracy with a constant underlying
representation of the lower classes as a more humble and less pretentious social division.
Moreover, the playwright embeds heavy hypocrisy and explores the general understanding of
what it means to be earnest in order to mimic and highlight the flaws of Victorian society at the
time. In Act 1, Jack is discovered to have been using the false identity of Ernest Worthing while in
town in order to escape his responsibilities in the country, while Algernon is revealed to be using a
fictional character of his own to escape arduous social obligations. The two protagonists must use
these aliases to enable them to defy the typical social expectations of the late nineteenth century.
Wilde employs this substantial element of the play to epitomise his view that the breadth of social
requirements can become overbearing; the simple fact that Jack and Algernon feel the need lie
extensively to gain a sense of social satisfaction indicates the great depth of societal constrictions
placed upon the upper class. This becomes apparent when Algernon attempts to make use of his
fabricated relative in order
Essay on International Business Structure
There are four theoretical constructions relating to market structures, these are oligopoly, monopoly,
perfect competition and monopolistic competition. Each theory has its individual assumptions and
norms. In turn, these theories will be analysed, compared and contrasted with real life examples. The
market structure related to each business reflects the profit maximisation and productions of the
firms. The demand curve will also vary depending on the market structure; MC=MR.
Perfect competition is representative of a competitive market; customary firms sell homogenous
products such as milk or potatoes. The generic assumptions for such firms refer to the barriers of
entry being unrestricted. The commercial milk market for example, over the ... Show more content on

Equally in a perfect competition scenario both structures see the consumer with little power over the
product or service bought.

Figure 1.0 is typical for a monopoly firm that is carrying out profit maximisation. The firm is a
price maker unlike in perfect competition; but in contrast to perfect competition a monopolistic will
produce a lower output at a higher price in the short term. As like most market structures a
monopoly will maximise profits where MC=MR. As shown above, profit is maximised at Q1. The
less elastic the demand, the profit will tend to be larger and consequently the MR curve will be
steeper.

Furthermore, other market structures include oligopoly and monopolistic competition. Oligopoly
occurs when a small number of firms have a large market share and consequently the market. The
products are relatively differentiated and the main area of competition is product marketing.
Oligopolies have various barriers to entry and the interdependent characteristics of an oligopoly, sets
this market structure apart from others. Similarly a firm experiencing monopolistic competition will
also have numerous firms in the market and consequently each firm will only hold a small market
share. Unlike in an oligopoly where the actions of rivals could possibly be detrimental to each firm,
the firms within monopolistic competition
